LyCha is a rebranding of a boba tea and bubble waffle shop in the Grantville neighborhood. The ownership has stayed the same, but they separated their business from a larger chain and renamed themselves. The interior decor had not changed at all with plenty of pink coloring. I believe the substantial modifications were to the various fruit and milk teas because I'm sure the chain had proprietary rights to their recipes.
At the time of my visit, the soft opening period was still happening. The branding of items such as the self-service ordering kiosk and electronic receipts still referred to the chain. The menu screens that hung behind the service counter were turned off. The only way you could view the offerings was through the kiosk. The drink categories were quite similar although I don't recall Phin Drip Vietnamese Coffee being available previously.
From the list of seven Fresh Fruit Green Teas, I picked a large Mango Passionfruit Green Tea with boba pearls added that cost $0.90. The tea flavor was okay, however the stir-fried boba needed more cooking time. The pearls were clumped together and were not as soft as I have tasted elsewhere. I hope the execution improves over time because the transition should not have been tumultuous given the crux of the operation had not changed. read more
