They walk you through the process, have you pick out your jewelry and sign a few forms, tell you the total price then you wait in their small waiting area until you get called back to your room. Once you get called back, their rooms are super clean and their piercers are very knowledgeable. My swelling is already down enough to see the fading in my tattoo and it is perfect. My tattoo holds a lot of meaning for me and the date ended up having the same strong meaning. I was comfortable and they made sure of it. Know what you want when you go in and everything will be smooth. If you go in for a tattoo just to have a tattoo you're not going to have a good time any place you go. Know what you want even if it's just in your mind, no drawing. It's going to hurt so don't get one if you have no pain tolerance. Be prepared to wait and don't rush the artist because you didn't plan your time accordingly. She took such great care of me & care of the project; many hours were spent readjusting the stencils & squinting both eyes to ensure everything was even & symmetrical. She knew when to chat with me to distract me from the ulnar nerve pain, when to offer breaks, when to spray with bactine, when to allow us some quiet time to daydream, etc. The energy in the shop is really great, too. To:dr: I will return due to the quality of the work, the vision and artistry he brings to his tattoos, and the consultation he does to make sure the final products are what you want them to be. Full backstory: I've had a tattoo for over 15 years that I hated. An ill conceived Japanese dragon had been made worse when I gave a different artist free reign to rework the design, and the resulting concept just wasn't me Finally went in to consult with Bill and he asked what I was looking for. I told him that, knowing how hard coverups can be, I was considering maybe an armor, biotech, or solar system tat could fix it. He looked at it and said he could fix it a lot of ways... what had a wanted if I could do it from scratch? So I told him I'd always loved the idea of a full Harry Potter themed sleeve or half sleeve. He asked me to put together some ideas and send them over for him to put together and make it art. So I did 7 months later and four sittings in, and my upper half sleeve is complete and the lower half is in design. His work ethic is phenomenal, he takes great pride, and his finished projects are stunning. Thanks so much! Hell, when we have to move away from the east coast we will undoubtedly make trips back to Wilmington to get tatted up again because we just don't trust anyone else now! While we've gotten tiny easy tattoos on vacation at other places, we will NOT go anywhere else for our more complicated and detailed tattoos. The artists we've used (Verb & J-Rock) just understand their clients. We explain what we want, we provide pictures, and they give us back a masterpiece. It's obvious they understand their clients' unique personalities and tailor their work to accentuate the vibe you give off (or try to give off.) The final product is always infinitely more amazing than we are able to picture in our minds beforehand. I really cannot say enough good things about this place. Some might say it's "pricey" here; we always expect to pay talented artists well as they deserve it and the finished product is more than worth it. If you're nervous about your new piece of art and want to ensure you're getting exactly what you've envisioned (actually better), go nowhere else other than Northern Lights.
