Waldorf Salad and Fried Calamari. Tasty.
Jeslyn X.

The Fried Calamari was great, with a crispy batter and calamari that practically melted in your mouth. The Waldorf Salad I had was also delicious. The lettuce bed was kept cold and crunchy, and the mix of salty blue cheese with sweet apple slices and grapes created a unique flavour. The celery added an extra crunch. The drinks were nice too, offering some good options to choose from. Service was great. The staff was patient and attentive, ensuring we had a pleasant dining experience. Food (quality, creativity, consistency) - 4.2/5 Drinks (quality, variety) - 4/5 Ambience (interior design, cleanliness) - 4/5 Service (courtesy, knowledge, timeliness) - 4/5 Value (quality vs. price) - 3.5/5 OVERALL - 3.9

Sous vide chicken

We had a fantastic exercise at this unplanned lunch. We just happened to be in the area when we checked It out. We came for lunch and had a lovely server and host. The plane was super clean and friendly. The menu was varied and there's vegetarian options. We started with a calamari starter and a goat cheese dish. The calamari was large pieces and tasted soooo good! Definitely get this if you like calamari. The goat cheese was goat cheese, but there was lots and I used It on all my food. Bow I ordered Sous vide chicken as I haven't had It before. But It was chicken. Well made. Great clean eating option. Great mushrooms on the side. Husband loved his burger. Food was great! Please try this place out if you haven't.

Best steak!!

What a great restaurant. First I must say the place is well designed. The patio is a good size. The service is awesome. We were all pleased with our service experience. The food is so good! We had the three course set price meals. We all had something different and all were pleased. My steak was outstanding. French onion soup was one of the best I've had and the dessert put out our dining experience over the top. We recommend this restaurant.

Oysters chilled and perfect!

Dynamite lunch at Luxe. Started with a dozen Oysters and had the Smashburger and Luxebuger as entrees. Very, very good. Nice wine selection and the Creme Brulee outstanding. Our server was perfect!

Came here on a Saturday for some brunch, we sat in the patio which was nice because the weather was nice. We ordered drinks to start, unfortunately the waitress spilled one of the drinks on the table all over my phone and shoes. Wasn't too happy about it, because it seemed like she didn't know how to properly hold the drink tray, maybe for next time it would be nice if she put the tray on the table before handling our drinks. Other then that the food was good, I've been here before for lunch and I've loved the lunch menu. It's a nice restaurant, the staff is nice and it's location is perfect right at the middle of the byward market, definitely a must try during summer time

I came here for a birthday dinner with a friend and was extremely happy with the service and food. The evening started off with complimentary bread which was warm and the butter was very tasty. The mussels were absolutely delicious! I ordered the duck and my friend ordered the chicken. The duck was so flavorful and rendered down properly. We ordered a side of the mac and cheese which was okay, nothing too special. The mashed potatoes and mushrooms were also a hit between my party! I will definitely come back to check out more of the menu!

I went here for Sunday brunch and sat on their patio the first weekend restaurants opened up post covid and had a lovely breakfast. Food: I ordered the classic eggs benedict ($17) and it was delicious! The portion size was fair for the price. The hollandaise sauce was yummy and creamy, but the ham is a bit thicker cut than I like, but still good. The potato hash was also decent. I do think its a bit misleading of the menu to say it came with a side of fresh fruit when I only got half a strawberry and a small slice of melon dew. My friend ordered the strawberry shortcake french toast ($16) and the portion was very generous! The french toast tasted exactly like strawberry shortcake. It was very sweet (too sweet for me personally) but still good. I recommend ordering a side of meat or something salty with this to balance the sweet with something salty. Drinks: They did not have ice coffee on the menu (which is surprising for a breakfast place?!) so they got me a makeshift ice coffee ($6) which was coffee in a glass of ice and a side of simple syrup to add to it. It was pretty good. I also tried the Tepaché drink ($15) and it was good- very pineapple-ey, but a little overpriced in my opinion. Service and ambiance: The staff was friendly and accommodating since they made a makeshift ice coffee. But the service was pretty slow, took a while (maybe 20 minutes) for the waiter to take our order. To be fair it was the first weekend patios were open and i think the waitress was new. The ambiance of the restaurant was very nice, almost elegant, and cute. The patio was very nice, was a half booth style and had a roof so it was not too hot out in the sun. Overall, I would go again and try their other types of eggs benedict. This is a perfect place to go for brunch with friends and enjoy drinks.

Duck

They were very busy. Under that circumstance, the manager and bartender did an outstanding job IMHO. I really enjoyed both the meal and the service. The Duck leg was right up there. The asparagus was perfection. I thought, for the price point, I could not have eaten better. I just don't give out 5 stars. It's a credibility thing. This meal and the service tempted me...

Definitely still one of my favourites in Ottawa. I have never once been disappointed by the food, and that Australian Wagyu is just as good as the first time I had it! Yummy in my tummy!!!

I was blown away by all the meat, the prepared goods. Burger counter. Some seating. Freezer choices. Some dried goods, bread. I got away with Chorizo, some lean ground beef and some beautiful olive oil. Is this place cheap? No! But, I pay for quality without batting an eye. Especially foodie stuff. Next round was a Tuesday aft. Ahhh. Better. I could see everything, not so packed. It was just after a long weekend so some things were sold out but I grabbed more lean beef, a chicken parm portion, a beef Jamaican patty and a stuffed potato. All were good! The chicken portion from the fresh cabinet was $11.50! More than my lb of ground beef! But it was a filling piece and fed me x 2. I love this place.

I wanted a smaller piece, so the person working cut me a smaller piece from the big piece of beef. The beef itself was aged well, but could have been more tender. I'm not in a hurry to try it again (I felt Saslove's meat quality was much more tender), but as for the beef's flavour, it was more pronounced. They also have a bone broth station, which I tried. I got the beef broth (more expensive to make than chicken), and added seaweed, scallions, and salt/pepper (to taste; I like that the broth doesn't have salt already)! It was a perfect cup of goodness on a cold day.

Drumroll please... Riviera -- Wow…read more This is what I'm talking about. Sexy. Sophisticated. Huge ceilings. Gorgeous bar. And a Negroni list with ten different versions. Don't miss Riviera when you're in Ottawa. We arrived an hour early before our third dinner guest joined us, so we started with a drink and a small appetizer. After several of my jokes fell flat, I told the waitress to just pick a Negroni for me based on what she'd heard from me so far. She nailed it. It was a slightly sweeter Negroni than the traditional one, with a hint of rosemary. We shared a dynamite tartare to start. Our buddy arrives and, without even looking at the menu, says: "You have to try a Negroni here -- they clearly know what they're doing." So I went for a second one -- this time a classic. Perfect. Next up: the seafood tower. Honestly, it felt like it had just come out of the sea. Razor clams, tuna belly tartare/ceviche on a mini salad leaf that was outstanding, plus lobster and crab claws that were spot on. A fabulous start. There were three of us, so we shared a steak with fries and a beautiful au jus, perfect gnocchi, and a salad with chicory, little nuts of some kind, and tons of shaved cheese -- Parmesan-ish. I can't remember exactly what it was because I'm writing this the morning after... and there may have been a few more wines involved. We finished by sharing a pavlova with passion fruit -- three spoons. I almost hate to admit this... but it was better than anything I've had in Toronto in years. Everything felt fresh, almost farm-to-table. Light, lively, and just a great vibe. In my opinion, Riviera is the perfect restaurant. Oh, and I added our waitress to my newsletter list because she wanted to try an excellent Polish water called Perlage that I think the restaurant should carry. Riviera -- if I could give you a 10 out of 10, I would. Actually... you know what? You're a 10.

Tuna crudo $30 was our least favourite dish tonight, and was borderline fishy. But the mushroom truffle egg toast $29 was rich and decadent. 10oz steak frites $75 was delicious and well marbled. The fries had fried up herbs which made it more special. Finally, the sea bass $48 on tomato and mussels sauce was a nice sauce, but I wish it came with some sort of withered green as well and the sea bass itself is very mild in taste. We really enjoyed our meal but would only get the steak frites and mushroom toast again. The restaurant ceilings are very high and adds to the ambiance. Service was very friendly, perhaps a bit slow at times but they were also full. Overall great meal and would come back!

The Long Version: My husband and I stopped by Al's Steakhouse for Happy Hour. Their Happy Hour is Monday to Friday 3pm-6pm and only available on their front patio or lounge, not their main dining room. We sat in the lounge. I got the feature cocktail ($8) which happened to be a Peach Bellini that day. My husband got the Al's Lager ($6.50). We shared the Calamari ($10) and Sliders ($13). My Peach Bellini was delicious and was served with a slice of dehydrated orange and a paper straw. The hubster thought the lager was ok. The sliders were excellent. There were 3 sliders and they were a good size. The bun was a plain brioche bun and was lightly toasted. The beef patty was flavourful. It came with cheese, pickles and burger sauce. I would get these again. The Calamari were good, although not particularly unique in taste. They were battered and tender, not chewy. They came with seafood sauce. Service was courteous, although the server came back twice to verify our order, lol. Our order was correct in the end, so no big deal. The restaurant ambiance is poshy but not pretentious. Their regular-priced menu is on the expensive side, but their Happy Hour deals are awesome. I will definitely be returning for more Happy Hour adventures here. Street parking only. The ambience was nice and cozy, and since there weren't many people there, it was a comfortable setting for a work lunch. However, there were quite a few flies around, which was extremely annoying and took away from the otherwise pleasant atmosphere. The service was excellent. The staff were friendly and checked in on us multiple times throughout the meal to make sure everything was okay. The food was amazing, and the appetizers were delicious. I ordered the 8 oz filet mignon, which was slightly undercooked compared to my preference, but it was still very tasty. My colleagues also enjoyed their steaks, although they mentioned that the quality of the meat wasn't quite on par with what they're used to having back in Texas. Overall, Al's Steakhouse offers great food, friendly service, and a cozy atmosphere. The flies were definitely a downside, but aside from that, we had an enjoyable meal. I'd consider coming back, especially if they can address the fly issue.

By this, I mean you show up as a solo diner and they treat you like you are not worth their time. It took me almost an hour just to park. This is a very busy shopping/dining centre, which I didn't mind, but the parking garage was packed, hard to find a spot. But I did it. Went up to the restaurant. There were four groups waiting...I counted them as I went in. Many empty tables. This was the classic case of a bunch of people standing around at the front like deer in headlights. They ignored me and two of the three walked off before anyone even acknowledged me. Finally, the young lady with dark hair wearing a green cardigan spoke to me. I was a waitress in college many years. Some of this generation (not the amazing restaurant I went to after) wouldn't know customer service if it slapped them in the face. She asked how many and as soon as I said, "Just one," she screwed up her nose and made a face and totally wrote me off. I got the copout: I can seat you at the bar. I explained I have RA and those stools are torture for me (also twisted my knee and the bar stool at Prohibition the night before was so painful I had to move). She said I could eat outside. It was 83 degrees. I told her it was too hot. She said there was a 2.5 hour wait. Bullshit. I've worked in restaurants, eaten at MANY. Four groups waiting? She just wrote me off. Too bad for you. I order appies, drinks...have a bill like a couple and tip to make up0 for it too. Ask the servers at restaurant I went to instead. So rude. No wonder so many restaurants are closing. I wouldn't go back if you PAID me to eat there. There are far too many options to treat paying customers this way. If she is any indication of the service there, I dodged a bullet! And found a gem instead. Good luck!
