My appointment for 7/21 (Thursday) went off without a hitch, nail tech was on time. Love the environment and the set up of the shop. Left the shop oiled to the "t". The very next morning I'm starting not to be happy about my choice in nail shops. By Monday, I'm definitely not happy at allThe tech slapped so much oil on my nails I could have fried some chicken. When I left the shop my feet were slipping and sliding in my shoes. She also applied a ton of cuticle remover. My cuticle edges are hard, dry and rough. Very poor customer service ! Terrible front desk ! I proceeded to book an appointment under" book appointment " on website I called and specified which nail tech I wanted to see several times and was told that she is only available Friday , Saturday , and Sunday so I proceeded to book for Friday at 12 PM. I got my nails done here and the first time I went, Urie (may not be the correct spelling) did my nails. They were bad but they were too thick. I go back for a fill in with Stephanie, and I'm never going back. The white outline of my nails are all different sizes. Some of them are too thick. After a week, it looks like I need a fill in. After she put the cuticle oil on and it dried, I had a clear product dried on my cuticle. When I go here I always make my appointment online. I had a 11:15 appt got there and sat for 30 minutes. While sitting I notice the natural nail techs coming in the one assigned to me asked my name then tell me she's going to set up her desk and will comeback for me. I tried this salon after it being recommended by someone I knew. In general, I like the look and feel of the salon. My interactions with employees has been great. Everyone is friendly and pleasant to me. The first time I went I saw Bryttni. I thought she was very nice, thorough, and detailed. The second time I went back I saw Natalie and she also was nice, thorough, and detailed. The main issues I have with the salon which is why this review lost two stars is that my set done by Bryttni didn't even last a week. Five days in and my first ever nail broke. Literally never had a nail break before on my life. Then, 3 more broke in the next 2 days. Also, I understand their policy is that appointments guarantee a service but not that specific time you dig goes up for. I think like many others this policy isn't the smartesst and makes appointments pointless. Why am I waiting an hour or more past the time I signed up for ahead of time? I only take a star off because they were relatively late on my appointment time but it seemed like the shop was having a very unexpected busy day. However, they had great customer service to rectify the time difference. I had Vivian and she did an amazing job shaping and fulfilling what I wanted to get done. I absolutely love my nails. Neverrrrrr again. How much tine do you have to read this entire rev I tried to support, I swear I did. I was actually excited... But 90 min and 5 nails later (yes, only 5 because I had to remove myself from the situation before it got worse.) I am, disappointed. Warning!!! Long post/review. I made an appointment about a month ago. Today comes and I am 15 minutes early for my appointment. I check in at the front desk, and I'm asked to wait in the waiting room in the back. I go to the back, and there are about six ladies waiting. 10 minutes later, it is only I and one other lady waiting. I figure, wow they move fast! 30 minutes later, I am still sitting. Then I am told, I don't have a real appointment. I only have a standby appointment, which is a step above a walk in appointment. Mind you, I was not told this when I checked in at the front desk. By this time, the other lady that was waiting with me had gone and come back with food. For her to leave and get food made me wonder just how long she had been waiting. She said she had been waiting for an hour, but she was a walk in so she understood. I told her I had an appt, theres no way I should still be waiting 45 minutes later. She asked me to be a little more patient because she drove from Naperville to find a black owned shop to support. She really went to bat for this shop. Her and I both spoke to the receptionist about the confusion on my appointment, and how long she had been waiting. And again she still went to bat for the shop, and encouraged me to be more patient. At that point, I was called for my appointment. I sit down at the table of the technician about to service me. I took a look at her nails, as I always do with nail techs. Smh, my optimism is now at 40% and dropping. I sit down, as she looks at my nails and says "oh this is a fill in?? Where is (whatever receptionist's name is) Im about to treat her!" I show the tech the style I want, and she turns to the tech next to her and says "oh, this looks more like what YOU do!! How do I do this girl??" Optimism is at 30% now. I say "dont worry about it, I'll pick something else." I'd rather pick something more simple than to walk out of here pissed. I say "white polish, bling pinkies." This was actually the style that I chose when I booked the appointment. She says OK. Here is where my optimism goes to 0%. She starts to file my nails to prepare for the standard fill in. Meanwhile, the lady that was rooting for them even after waiting for 1hr and 45 minutes is now being walked out and told she can't be serviced/ its too late. She pleads her case about supporting black businesses and how she drove from Naperville only to be treated like this. Ut turns ugly. My nail tech and the nail tech next to her decided to comment out loud, "I'll beat that old b*tch ass! Dont nobody need yo few funky dollars!" While they have clients!!! Me!!!! And someone else!!! Noted! Not to mention, this potential client is a business owner and community activist (they really messed up - you never know who's who in these streets). She came to the shop after seeing activist Ja'Mal Green support their opening. Smh, I can only imagine how this is going to turn out. Back to the service. Not a bad file job, a bit careless about friction/heat - I'll live. Now white acrylic powder, not polish, is clumped onto the first nail. Apparently it's done wrong, she files it, starts over - lord help me. 5 fingers and one drill burn under my nail...I calmly say "thats it, we're done." I show the receptionist my clumpy Elmers Glue nails-she says no charge, please call me tomorrow and lets talk to the owner. I leave. I actually ended up talking to the manager and the owner the next day. The owner was completely apologetic. The stand in manager (the one involved in the argument) was supposedly fired. I was offered a free service with a top tech in the shop. I accepted, but have yet to actually walk back in the shop. Too much went on that day. The energy there is just bad. So I made another appointment. They charge $10 to reserve the appointment. The $10 is subtracted from your total. That's fine with me. Now last time my appointment was scheduled for 3:15 but due to another nail tech, the owner, being stuck in traffic, I wasn't seen until about 3:45-3:50 even though my tech was there. Nonetheless, I was patient, I let that slide because the accident was an unforeseen incident and I didn't know if Sierra was seeing additional clients. This Tuesday I had a 5:15 appointment. I arrived on time and when I checked in with the receptionist, she told me my nail tech, Sierra would be with me shortly. 20 minutes later, I see Sierra guiding another client towards her chair. I asked the receptionist how much longer my wait was and was told Sierra had 2 people ahead of me. UNACCEPTABLE!! What is the point of making an appointment if it isn't honored. Furthermore, the receptionist should communicate with the client upon check in if there is a delay. Needless to say, I walked out of there with my $10 in hand and will not be returning. Porsha was my nail tech, she took her time and you can tell that she really is passionate about her craft. Her work is VERY neat and precise and she gave me exactly what I wanted. I cannot wait to go back!! I got my receipt from my last visit, too. I made this failed appointment when I paid for the last appointment. It was made in person and at the front desk. I say this to say I never changed anything on my original account and the infamous 10 digit number that morphed into a 9 digit one wasn't modified by me. Sounds fishy lady. Now this is all pure dee BS and they know it. How did you call me and text before then suddenly you can't call or text me? so now I'm really baffled and mad because I wasted my time going over there! I only got a no chip pedi normally my no chip will last me damn near 2 months no peeling. It's been two damn weeks and why the fuck are both my big toes chipped one of them the polish is almost completely gone. And this is only from me taking a hot bath which is my norm. I went to this location for a fill in. Upon arrival there is only street parking. I don't prefer salons that have no private or off street parking. Second the place is cluttered. The basic concept is good but they need to use the space better. Third they only have one restroom a client was in the bathroom forever. Fourth no price's posted and before I start my service I always get an understanding of price. I got the run around about price. The technician Sherri did not greet me in a welcoming manner. Her work station was nasty. The table had file dust all over it and all her containers had file dust all over them. For me a total turn off. I found this place on Instagram and only decided ro go because of the beautiful nails advertised on there page. I'm only giving it one star because the girl that did my nails was sweet and very personable. I asked for a full ombre set length medium with a coffin shape. However what I asked for was not what I received. I did my nails Saturday and now the corners are lifting and getting filled with water which I will have to eventually have to remove to avoid a fungus. The girl was very nice and it seemed like it was her first set of nails ever. The pedicure I received was horrible, the owner I guess has family members in her salon and the young girl that did my pedicure was only 19 however she did not clean my nails, she did not make sure the bottom of my feet were smooth as well the way she painted y toe nails was like a toddler, im sure my son could have done a better job, all she did was curse and talk to the girl next to me, very unprofessional. I will NOT be returning to this establishment. The owner didn't ask how everything was, she didn't ask if I likes the services provided nor did she even look at my nails to see the horrific job that was done. This is by far the worse nail place I have been too in Chicago. Update: so after 4 days with the nails they have each started pooping off one by one. I will be contacting my bank to request a dispute on non receive of goods, being that they did not deliver and they have all fallen off. Well... the first time I went to this shop I was thrilled for a luxious chic black owned business... but the nail tech was distracted and one nail broke the same day! Went back and the nail tech had so much attitude. That was a year ago, doubt she's there anymore. Decided to check it out again and this time get the owner to do it. The nails online are gorgeous and I couldn't wait to get ombre for my graduation. My uber driver got on the tollway by mistake and I had to walk in the rain for 12 mins and was late 10 mins. Kept calling and no answer. Waited an hour to be seen. The owner showed no empathy for my walking in the cold rain with sciatica and back pain to get there as fast as I could. She went on and to say "o a nail techs shouldn't wait 5-10 mins for a client, if someone else is there she would take that person." Um... that person looked she had been in the seat for 30 mins already so what was the point? I was merely venting about my having to walk and no one answering the phone, had I known I had to wait an hour I would've just went home. So I mentioned why no one answers the phone? Jasmine says "there is no phone here, the calls go to corporate, do you hear a phone ringing in here?" WTF? I was like, I jsut wanted to make sure that the 12 min walk would be worth my back being inflamed so I mentioned my back pain and walking again... she stated "Sounds like you need to buy a car." I booked an appointment and my tech had just sat someone as I was walking in on time for my appointment. It was 2 hours before I was finally seated, with someone else. That girl butchered my nails. I asked if she could do a look and she said yes and omg. It was the worst job I'd ever had done on my life. I ended up just leaving and taking the polish and nails off when I got home. Also my deposit was never refunded for an appointment that I made, but ended up leaving because they had me waiting 2.5 hours while they did some other girls nails that they had just seated. They tell you "start times aren't guaranteed, but the service is" this is my second time coming. The first time the owner did my nails and was rushing because she was going on vacation. This time service was just extremely slow. I won't be back. If you do decide to give them a try, make sure everything you need to do that day is already taken care of. Came back on Saturday after speaking with the owner via Instagram about getting my nails fixed and waited 3 hours to never get seen. So I went and got my nails done at Lux Hair & Nail Boutique (8206 S. Stony) last Sunday Jan. 23rd. I paid $70 for these damn nails even though I was annoyed bc the shaping of my nails are horrible and very inconsistent. Clearly home girl played on my nails, but I stayed calm bc I gave her the benefit of the doubt bc we all have to start somewhere. Ok fine. 3 days after getting my nails done.. my middle finger nail started to lift. 2 days later, they were all starting to lift as you can clearly see in the picture. I had plans to go back to the nail shop this week but bc of the weather, that didn't happen. Slipping, sliding, and getting stuck in my lil Cruze through these chicago streets was not the move. Fast forward to today, Me: ***calls the shop*** How you doing, I'm calling bc tomorrow will make 2 weeks since I've had my nails done, however, they've been lifting since last week. Cassandra: Well, unfortunately after 3 days we don't guarantee any repairs to nails that may lift or break. It's very common for nails to start lifting after 2 weeks. Me: GIRL WHAT?! In all my years of getting my nails done, I have never had my nails start lifting after 2 weeks (3 weeks ...maybe) but I just told you they have been lifting since the first week of being done. Cassandra: Ok Ms. Lady, I've been in the nail industry for years and depending on the nail technician it's common for nails to start lifting after 2 weeks. Me: Ok ma'am, well my nails look A FOOL!! And I didn't pay y'all $70 for my nails to be lifting 3 days later. They were already a mess when I left the shop because the shape, polishing, and lifting is just terrible! ......and here we are!! **WARNING** this is a long review This shop is a complete joke. They charge outrageous prices for sh!tty work. Don't let the pretty nails fool you. I worked there as a tech and i know what went on behind the scenes.First of all the use MMA acrylic liquid, which is industrial grade and illegal to use on nails. The techs there just slap a thin layer of acrylic on your nails and are on to the next customer so they can make more money. I witnessed ladies coming back to the salon within a couple days because their nails were all lifted up and hanging on by a thread. I had people all over my shoulder and reporting every little thing I did to the owner. all I felt was pressure to move faster because its all about money to them. Quality of the service does not matter. I soaked off a ladys nails who was a repeat customer and they were so damaged, I told a lead nail tech there and she just said thats okay apply the acrylic, I was disgusted. Also they're very unorganized and don't have supplies in stock. I Had to leave because they were so unethical and criticized my methods of doing nails because I actually did nail care for the clients natural nails before applying the enhancement and gave my nails structure so they would last as long as possible for my clients. On top of all that the owner didn't even pay me for the work I did in her shop! She can keep that lil change because the experience in her CHOP SHOP was way more valuable. Erika Aguniga you are a terrible business owner and a very unethical one at that you put saving money and increasing your profits before the health of your customers, the people who keep the lights on in your shop and puts food on the table for you and your family. I can only wish you the best and hope you turn your business around and run it properly. I had so much fun here! And got exactly what I asked for. Scheduled an appointment with Tyler and was seen immediately. She when through sampling multiple different dip powders for my ombré set until I finally settled on the perfect color. I was offered wine and was able to stop mid session to have a snack break! After seeing Tyler's work on Instagram I trusted her to do it up with some gems and stones...she did not disappoint. Can't wait to go back and put my full faith in her to just do her own thing for me! read more
