This may account for the impeccable and tasteful décor, which I value just as highly as the food in a café - if I want to sit and eat my lunch somewhere it has to be a nice environment. There are a few small, quality pieces of art on display and for sale as well as larger, more generic yet coordinated prints. Interior design aside, the smoothies here are great, as you would hope from a place called The Smoothie Company! Each one is made to order with fresh fruit and there are dairy and non-dairy options. The sandwiches are a good size, leaving you feel full and healthy after a sandwich/smoothie lunch. You get the quality you pay for with both of these. I was pleased to find out they recycle their glass bottles but wasn't surprised as the atmosphere suggests positive ethos. The pot plants on the tables and little washing line on the wall to leave notes or flyers on are features that add to this good feeling.

Don't expect miracles, these hidden gems don't stay secret for long, so come 1pm the queue will still be out the door - just not nearly as push-and-shove-ly as the spots nearby. The added bonuses of extra staff, to take off the pressure, and a cute little side window to collect your order from at such busy times, is a boon indeed. They've a small array of outdoor seating for those intermittent sunny afternoons, and a decent amount of space inside, including a most exciting faux-grass carpet made of plastic. I know it's terribly kitsch, but I'm somewhat of a fan, as it makes the space feel fresh and light. The staff are as cheery as the space, which is lovely, and will help guide you to one of the offerings if you need help - which you might - as there are many options. The whole gamut of the smoothie world is covered, from the naughty-but-tasty, to the milk-based, right through to the purest juices. I had something raspberry and mint based, and it was refreshing and delicious. I came here for a catch up with the lovely Gabrielle, and I wish I could remember which she had, as it also looked marvellous... On this occasion I didn't take a bite, but there's a decent selection of sarnies on offer should you come looking for lunch. All in all, it's a super solid spot for smoothies, and you might even find just that bit extra. Check 'em out!

Not that I've got anything against kids, well not really, but sometimes when there's lots of them under one space and there are lots of little spaces in that space and they're still there they tend to get on my nerves. LOTS. Food courts become swamped with bodies and sticky fingers, and while it may not be the best option, a large veggie and fruit smoothie certainly fills a void. and it comes in a cup, and you can take it outside and sit on a bench and avoid, avoid, avoid. The smells coming from Juice are just to die for, everything smells so deliciously fresh and enticing, and you feel immediately healthy by proxy. The bright colours of the fruit lure you in, and for the price, there's a lot of fruit in your cup. Be it freshly pressed or blended it's still tasty, and filling. You can order premade combinations, or if there are ingredients in there you're just not fancying, you can suggest your own and have it tailor made. Standard sizes of small, medium or large, depending on your thirst and or appetite, and reasonably priced for the amount of fruit you get. Only thing is you'll be hankering for something savoury immediately after your big gulp.

Think door-wedge sandwiches, freshly made soups, salads, sushi etc. They also have local produce in stock - I bought some Yorkshire Honey in there the other day. Gorgeous. Price isn't cheap but - you get what you pay for. There's not much room to sit in but good for taking friends / clients. You could sit outside on the patch of 'grass' - but I'd wait for the summer months for that. Staff are super friendly and there's a selection of magazines / papers to grab if you're feeling the need to consume some literature along with your nosh. They tweet too - @outofthewoodsuk - in a nice personal way. Watch out for the cupcakes on the counter, they're very hard to not buy.

With such a fantastic reputation and community following from the first Out of the Woods on Water Lane in Holbeck Urban Village, the new juice bar serves coffee, soup, smoothies, juice, sandwiches, all things wholesome, just as good if not better than the last. In all the madness of opening a new shop in the christmas period, Ross & Jon (OOTW parents) even had time to open a 'pop-up' Christmas Shop also in Granary Wharf - selling gift boxes and presents that my parents loved. The interior is chic, so is the graphic or 'branding', very simple and decadent but most of all the staff are genuinely lovely. Out of the Woods provides very affordable prices for high quality local produce and excellent personal service. I have, like most, a thing for good coffee and well delivered service with a sense that your custom is valued. For me this is exactly what Out of the Woods is about and does a damn good job at that! Get down there for a coffee / meeting, lunch date, walk along the canal, breakfast before work, comfortable chat, healthy smoothie. etc, etc. I cannot recommend it enough. OH, THEY HAVE FREE WI-FI!!!! THANK YOU Out of the Woods.

Whilst the surroundings of the arcade may have faded during the 21 years that the cafe has been in business, the honesty and wholesome quality of the food remains consistent. I have frequented Roots and Fruits on many occasions, usually on an overcast day, accompanied with a good book. It is the perfect place to lose yourself for a couple of hours, away from the frenetic speed of the city centre. Although the decor has aged slightly, this somehow adds character to the ambiance. Their rich, flavourful soups are perfect on a gloomy day. My favourite dish from the cafe is the falafel kebab, served warm with salad, raita and pitta breads, it is absolutely delicious. After eating, I often wile away the rest of the afternoon with a Darjeeling tea and a moist slice of cake. Who says procrastination has to be dull. A well-used haunt for dedicated vegetarians and fans of meat-free cooking, long may Roots and Fruits continue.

This time we came however we had to sit outside, the cafe as tables had been booked inside (the people who booked it were 25 mins late and they still kept the table) quite irritating for us but at least they give you ages if you're late! It wasn't IDEAL sitting outside, but actually turned out to be quite nice as loads of people were walking past in fancy dress (we visited on Halloween) so got some really interesting people watching in! The waiter came over and took our order (after we'd deliberated for ages) I had the mandarin jigger and others ordered hot drinks etc. Everything was bought quickly and efficiently, our waiter was so lovely when we took ages to decide our food too! I eventually decided on the nachos, complete with salsa, coconut sour cream (!!!!) and jalepenos! All of it was amazing and so tasty!! I definitely didn't expect the coconut sour cream (vegan of course) to taste so good but it was great! The vegan cheese on top was also great and generally really tasty while also feeling you were being (quite) healthy! After much more deliberation we chose the chocolate cheesecake (all vegan) with a desiccated coconut base- different but very delicious! I have to give this place 5 stars, its ethical, friendly and everything I aspire to in life- really makes you think twice about what you're eating and how you're eating it! A real eco hub for anyone interested in conserving our planet :) Goes without saying the napkins and loo roll etc is all recycled too :)
