Everything (at the moment) is 50% off in the store. While we were there, I asked the owner how long the business had been there. It's an unusual building, to say the least. There's a giant fish sticking out of the top of it! It's got that really old store kind of feel -- the idea that some of the items were placed where they sit long ago and just haven't been moved for years and years. The owner said the store had been in his family for decades -- 40 or 50 years. It made me really sad to be there -- it was clear that the closure is pretty tough for him. I don't know how much time the store has left, but wanted to at least pop a review up here and mention the end of its story. From what I can tell it was once a well-equipped and unique North Woods fish and tackle shop. Here's wishing the best to the family.

The owner is a blind guy that's owned the shop for decades. He sells some brand name lures and has live bait, but mostly he makes many of the lures in the shop. Ask him about his special lures and the feature that makes them special. I've caught a few fish with his lures so they do work. However, the Beaver House is famous for their Beaver Flics. They are a small, teardrop shaped piece of metal attached to a hook. Use it in place of a regular hook while still fishing and the owner will guarantee you'll catch a fish. It's basically something to add to your hook to attract more attention. I'm mainly a lure fisherman, so I don't know how well it works. They're also the only place left in the U.S. that sells Rapala trout lures. They are basically skinny spoons with a fish likeness on the outside and shiny paint on the inside. When the owner heard Rapala was discontinuing the lures, the bought out their stock. So he must believe in them. I bought a few, but have only used it once or twice without much luck. But I'm anxious to try them in a lake more known for its trout. If nothing else, it's worth a stop in to talk to the owner. He's fun to listen and talk to.

Staff were very helpful, and I wouldn't hesitate to come here again to stock up on last-minute supplies or to browse for that item I didn't know I needed. Prices were a big higher than you'd find online or in a mega-store, but nobody should be surprised or outraged by that, considering where you are.
