The barman couldn't have been…read moremore helpful and accommodating and he helped us re-arrange some tables and chairs so we could all be seated together. The atmosphere is lively and upbeat with a jukebox, several TV's all showing different channels and a real mixture of people in the place (Our group consisted of some old fuddy duddies like me and some well behaved kids!). The pool tables are in excellent condition and after we finished with ours, the guy behind the bar came out and cleaned it, I don't think I've ever seen that happen anywhere else! There are some other activities that we did't get time to try like Snooker and Darts and there are also some quiz machines and even Jenga if that appeals to you. We found the prices to be reasonable and managed to get a pool table for the entire evening for around £16. Slim Jims caters for a mixture of modern and old world tastes and I'll make sure I visit again next time I'm in the UK!

If all you need is a snooker table and nothing else, you'll find Dunstable Snooker Club ideal,…read morealthough if the state of the baize isn't your only consideration you may be disappointed. The tables are in good condition with two pool tables and around a dozen snooker tables, however if you don't possess your own cue then buy one (preferably elsewhere as their mini-shop is ludicrously expensive) because the 'pub cues' are in as bad a way as you'll see. The building itself is dilapidated with the upstairs consisting of the same green paint peeling off both the walls and windows, the downstairs area is slightly better but with the space under some of the tables used as storage for empty barrels, it still looks a bit of a dive. The bar is well stocked and has a plasma screen with the two pool tables and a darts board but for a members' bar, the prices are shocking. There is also a problem with the size of the bar, it struggles to cater for more than 10 people which can be a massive problem when pool or darts leagues or poker tournaments are held. For the pleasure of all this, membership is £20 a year, which is a massive contrast from Rileys' £5 fee. If you want an enjoyable experience along with a good table then try one of the Rileys clubs in Luton.

Once inside, it has a bit of a working mans club feel to it, but there are loads of snooker tables (on two levels). There are also of very good quality, although perhaps play a little on the fast side. The only reason i would not give it 5 stars is that the supplied cues are pretty bad, but i would always take my own in any case.
