Urban Alley Brewery - Flight

Being in Australia...I needed some local beers! I looked on Yelp for a brewery and found this spot…read more I'm so glad that I did! When I walked in I was greeted and asked if I wanted to sit outside or inside. I opted for inside. After being seated I was told to either order off the QR code or go up to the bar. After a look over the menu, I saw that flights were available. This was my best option to try a variety of beers! I walked up the bar to place my order. Elphie (sorry if that's spelled wrong!) helped me. I told her I was from NY and wanted to try the best Australian beers; minus IPAs and sours. I asked her to pick the beers for my flight. She did an amazing job and I loved all of her choices. Each beer was unique and had great flavor. Thank you for your wonderful selection! For food I ordered the cheese plate. While it was delicious and paired well with the beers I realized I should have ordered some "cooked" food so that I could've tried something the kitchen has to offer as I'm sure it would have been delicious. I will absolutely come back here again when I'm on this side of the equator! I highly recommend coming here...Aussie local or not...this is the spot!

The timing was pretty good in that regards, and as it turned out, this brewery was actually pretty good, but that is something that I have come to expect from a lot of these small time breweries. Yeah, the beer selection was really good, and the staff quite pleasant as well. What was even better was that the atmosphere was quite laid back, and it really wasn't all that noisy. This definitely turned out to be one of those places that I really liked.

Okay, this place wasn't the easiest of places to get to, but once I managed to negotiate the maze…read morethat was the industrial estate I found myself at a place that was truly magnificent - a craft beer brewery. Actually, this was probably better than the bars because it is in here that you will discover beers that you simply will not find elsewhere, and that was certainly what happened to me. Yes, the beers were pretty awesome, though this place isn't all that big, and does get a little crowded. Still, I come here for the beers.

I'm so beyond happy that I finally made it to Hop Nation…read more This place is in a pickle to find, even with the help of Google Maps. The turn to get here is very sudden, leaving no room for error. It's a good thing that U-turns are an easy fix. Hop Nation is located in a very industrial plot. It's a quaint, little, chill, no fuss set-up. Set amongst the warehouses, there's an open roller door which leads way to a craft brewery. Hop Nation defines all of the indie expectations that come with craft beer and it's nestled into Footscray. There's a few standing cocktail tables with high seats, then your eyes meet a quaint little bar. They have a few beers on tap, and popcorn for the munchies. Load up with your choices and find a seat, I'm sure you won't be in a hurry to get out of this brew bar. The best thing is that Hop Nation welcome outside food. That's a huge plus for a venue. And you will want food, cause you will be snuggling yourself in, trying out their beers. You have the option of bringing your own, or getting UberEats delivered. It's a cool spot perfect for a midday session. And the beers are spot on too.

Brilliant yet again. The fine people at The Hof Downtown really make sure you have the best night…read more Food is brilliant and the beers, large and crisp. If you're looking for a fabulous German night out in Melbourne, look no further. Restaurant is spacious and the crew here really go all out to make sure you have a great time. This is the third time in a row I've had a birthday here and I really feel the need to recognise how good it is to eat and drink here. I usually go to a German place on my birthday and this is where I will keep going. After so many German meals, both here and in Germany, I think I'm well qualified to make the recommendation.

My team headed here for lunch on a Friday and this place was packed out! Luckily we got a table…read moreoutside (gotta enjoy those rare sunny Melbourne days!) and fairly common in pubs is the practice of ordering and paying at the bar, which is great for large groups as there is zero hassle of splitting a bill at the end. The lunch specials for $13.50 sounded pretty good, so I got a skewer of mixed sausages with potato salad and green salad (on the menu it's called Wurstlspiess). Waited at the bar for my beer and by the time I got back to the table, within 5 minutes of sitting down, my dish was served woo hoo! Considering how busy they were, I was stoked at the fast turnaround time (I was starving!!). Didn't seem like they were too consistent though, as half my colleagues got theirs quickly and the other half waited longer. Let's just say I was happy to be on the right half of the team :) The meal itself was A OK! It was a complete package of meat, carbs and greens. With mustard. Yum! The sausages didn't have that 'fresh off the bar-bee' taste, but can't complain, there was variety (4 different kinds), and I think compared to the other specials, this looked more appetizing. Serving size was just right for me. The venue itself is cool, decked out like a Bavarian beer hall with servers in traditional garb. Check it out for lunch if you're in the area!

I have certainly been to this place before, however before I went off to my bookgroup I decided…read morethat I would pay this place another visit, and it certainly was well worth it. There is quite a large beer garden out the back (though if it didn't have one then calling it the 'Fitzroy Beer Garden' would somehow defeat the purpose). Okay, the beer is a little pricey, however the food certainly isn't, especially the Porthouse Steak for $16.00. That is probably the cheapest steak that I have seen outside of steak night. The inside of the bar is also really impressive, with little objects covering almost all of the wall space.

Was there on Saturday night and it was pretty busy but also fairly laid back, a good mix of types, and no real dickheads. Only issue was that every single person but me seemed to be smoking in the beer garden. Can't wait for the day us non-smokers can claim back some of these great outdoor bar places. Had some tasty pints for around $8, which for a Saturday night is pretty staggering ($8 pint anywhere these days around Melbourne is pretty good). With Forester's Hall now open right across the road having 'beer' in their name also gives some cohesion to this corner of Smith St, and I'm sure we wont be the only ones to start at FBG in the afternoon sun then drift across the road to sample the impressive beer range at FH this summer.

I was hesitant because a German beer hall in Australia didn't sound like it would be very good - but I was wrong. This is a cute beer hall that mimics most München Haus'. It was still early in the day when we came by so it was mostly empty. We sat at a table outside, but with the plastic windows drawn since it was drizzling a little. The server was friendly and gave us good recommendations on food to share. The platter we got was supposed to be for 3-4 people, but with 8 of us not being too hungry, it was perfect for us to all try a little and have something while we drank. The espresso martini was surprisingly good, as well as the Oktoberfest beer that I had. It definitely gave me German beer garden vibes and as someone who is pretty critical because I'm always in Germany, I liked it and would definitely come back.

Service was slow and lacking a general concept of what service is supposed to be. I ordered a wrap which comes with a side of bread (clearly stated on the ordering form). It wasn't a pleasant food experience especially considering that less than 30 minutes after I ate my entire body felt like it was going to explode and I barely made it back to the hotel room. I just recommend you choose another place!
