The reason I come back here over and over again is thanks to the compliments I'm constantly receive for my hair. I have long, relatively straight hair that is pretty much good to go as soon as I wake up. This salon has a lovely atmosphere to it, its trendy and hip- and it makes me feel 'cool' for being there. When you enter you are greeted by whoevers at the counter, there's usually a short wait (despite having an appointment booked), and you are always offered some sort of hot beverage. The magazines here are fashionable and new (no who weekly in sight) and the area is kept clean and hair free. I get 'guy' to cut my hair, it gets washed first, then blow dried and finally cut (no wet hair cutting). Usually take close to an hour (including waiting time at the start). I love this place and will probably stick with them forever. The price is definitely on the high side, but I say it's worth it.

Frank is the BEST hairdresser I've ever been to and I've had a few in my life (from LA to Melbourne…read moreand everywhere in-between). He actually listens to what you say, only cuts your hair into a style that suits you and - best of all - doesn't cut in a manner that hastens the onset of split ends. Currently I'm sitting on the opposite side of the world but after some disasters I'll grow out my hair and wait until he can cut it again. The salon itself is hip happening. Sometimes the staff (not Frank) can seem a tad aloof but I think they're getting better and honestly, it's probably just because they're so busy all of the time. The head massages are to die for and make up for any perceived snootiness anyhow. Parking can be a witch, but if you park out in the 2 or 4 hour lots near the train station you'll be right. Do not park in front because if you're even a millisecond late back to the car, you will get fined. I'm told that Rokk Ebony prices are expensive but I think they're reasonable, especially for the great cut you'll walk out with. Can't wait to go back.

I got my hair done here including the cut in less than 2 hours. That in itself is a bit questionable and I was right to be concerned given the end result. The owner was very nice and the guy who did my hair was pleasant too although his English was quite bad. Instead of a trim of my existing side bangs, I ended up with a full on fringe. Was not a good look on me and I'm currently growing it out. I was charged $40 extra on top of the list price as I was told my hair is "long". However, my hair sits above my bra strap so I would've thought it medium length?! I'm giving this place a low score as they burnt my hair! Each time after I shower, there are whole sections of hair that curl up just like pubic hair. I use the special shampoo that does not contain chloride and sulfates to keep straight hair longer so I know it's not my shampoo. So disappointed with the result of this salon visit. I think I'll have to cut a lot of my hair off as its so damaged now.

Jacob asked other staff to cut our hair, not saying the other staff is bad, but first of all, there is NO WHERE on the voucher saying you can not choose hairdresser, and secondly we specifically asked to have the appointment with Jacob, what is the point for making the booking if Jacob - the owner just refuses to cut your hair because he is too busy to serve his regular customers. Don't think that his regular guests even made the booking. So disappointed with the way Jacob treated the new customers. Don't know how good you are, but that is not really good way to serve your new customers!!!

I also said I dont want anything brassy, she said ok. During my treatment her child was sitting in a pram behind me, she said he got sent home from daycare because he was sick. During this time i had to listen to an angry male customer arguing with the other hairdresser next to me because she didnt cut his hair the way he asked her to upon paying he said i dont like my hair you didnt cut it the way i wanted. It looked hideous like bowl cut. I felt sorry for him and was just releaved she wasnt doing my hair. My hairdresser said he wasnt happy with you, hes out the front taking photos. When drying my hair off the hairdresser burnt my head she wasnt watching and held the dryer in the same place without moving it and burnt my scalp i yelled in pain and pulled my head away. Once dried she said what do you think fighting back tears I said i dont like it i didnt want brassy i asked for platnum blomde, she put more toner on but it didnt make any difference. I said i still dont like it its a brassy brown not blonde. The other haitdrrsser who messed up the mans haircut said just put purple shampoo in it. My hairdrrsser saw the irate look on my face and said come back next week ( xmas eve) and il fix it for you by using a stronger volume free of charge. I was worried about having to put my hair through such a drying and damaging process for a second time but could not stand the colour as i had got exactly what i said i did not want. I did return and my hair was not blonde but a brassy brown after the 2nd fix up appointment. I said i hate it tearfully and as she showed me out of the seat to leave i was told oh its just the light in here. I awoke on my birthday feeling jetlagged as hell, and not particularly enthused to be celebrating. It was a true stroke of genius then that my little lady had organized for our day to start at ABFAB Spa & beauty. Groggily walking through the doors, I was welcomed by a clean and inviting space that had me feeling all kinds of cozy in no time. We were escorted through to the waiting area, given slippers and dressing gowns, and told to get our clothes off and head to the next waiting area. It was here that we reclined and drank green tea whilst listening to the soothing music, intended to take customers to a state of relaxation that we were soon in. We were then taken into the massage room, where we received hour-long full body massages, complete with hot stone treatments. The masseurs were fantastic, and when I told them they could go as hard as they liked, had my sore muscles feeling like jelly. The hot stone part of the treatment was great too, the stones rolling down your back and warming you all over. Afterwards, we wandered back in to the green tea room and chilled out a little before re-dressing and facing the world again. We left smiling, and although the jetlag was still there, we really didn't care.

I've been going to Sandton for 3-4 years now and was happy with their service up until the lady I…read moreusually got to do my hair left the salon. Since then, their quality has taken a downward turn. My recent experience with them has made me decide to never go back to Sandton as they failed to understand my requirements, overcharged me on two occasions, and I ended up with an overpriced dye job that I was very unhappy with and had to remedy with a $10 pack of dye from the supermarket. In December 2014, I went to Sandton get a cut and foils as well as a root touch up in preparation for my wedding in February. The cut was nothing amazing. The lady who served me failed to ask questions to understand what I wanted regarding the colour of the foils before she started, and instead made a lot of assumptions. She was hesitant to use bleach on my black hair to give me foils, and so decided to "lift" the colour instead. This was ineffective. There was absolutely no colour difference in the supposed foils compared to the rest of my hair. I should have refused to pay then and there, but I didn't. When I called up the next day and told them I was unhappy, I was told to come back in the new year for the job to be fixed and was given the impression that this would be at no extra cost. On my second visit, I was told that the repair job would not be free of charge. Instead it would cost me around $150. The same lady (who supposedly was under close supervision of the professional colourist) bleached my hair and toned it. The final product did not turn out to be the colour I chose - it was much more yellow - a rookie colourist mistake. The toner hadn't worked, and my hair was over bleached. When I explained that the colour needed to be more red to match what I had wanted, I was told that this would be another $40 as it would be classified as a "colour change". No attempt was made to compare the final result with the colour swatch I had chosen. Again, I should have refused to pay for what they had done, but I was made to feel that it was my fault that I didn't like the outcome. I left without paying the extra $40 as I simply could not afford it - I had now spent close to $400 on a hair job that I was not happy with. I ended up getting a friend to remedy the "professional" dye job with a $10 packet of dye from the supermarket so I could look decent on my wedding day. I am extremely disappointed with Sandton and I will not be going back. Their quality has dropped dramatically from when I first started going there, and the service is over priced. Approximate cost: $400
