my grandma went in to see bettie for a basic, simple blowout on the morning of my wedding day (july 19 2024). there are limited hair salon options on the island and even though the reviews for this salon were outdated, we took a chance. when my grandma arrived bettie acted like she had no idea what my grandma wanted, and she left the salon looking like a witch. her hair looked frizzy and bizarre, not at all what she wanted. a blowout is a basic staple at any salon, for any hair stylist. i wish we could have gotten a refund but no one had time to handle the situation. my grandma ended up having to get her hair done by one of my aunts. waste of $95. do not go here! read more

I had booked an appointment for a haircut. 1:00 pm , I arrived early to make sure I had time, especially for my husband since he had a stroke in February. I'm his caregiver . I went to the salon and no one there. I knocked and then called. The hairstyle answer, I told them who I was and had a 1pm appointment.. She said I had you down for 1230pm , I said no I booked for 1pm. Why did she not double check what time I booked.. it wasted my time, I had to drive into town and back home.. apparently no one really cares about it customer.. I will not recommend this place of service.. not cool. I saved my 75.00 for haircut for someone else who cares.. read more

Bettie is a skilled colorist especially with blondes...left my hair soft and silky unlike previous experiences that fried my hair. She was also willing to make an adjustment the following week to make it just how I wanted it. Loved having her adorable dog keeping us company while she worked. Only complaint was that the price seemed quite high but she did spend 5 hours doing multiple processes. Would recommend. read more

Went in for a haircut a couple months ago. left feeling cute... until I washed my hair. It was very uneven and noticeable by friends and family, not just me! Seemed likes she was in a rush, and didn't go back to make sure my front or back pieces were even. I paid quite I bit for a haircut and repair treatment for it to turn out very bad. read more

I had not had my hair professionally done in years and I was incredibly anxious about going in with severely damaged hair. I'm talking breaking off, fried hair. It was in such a sad state, my confidence was shot. After the full treatment with Bettie and her expertise she was like my fairy godmother and I walked out with a totally new head of hair. She is absolutely amazing. She listened to my concerns, she gave me so much helpful advice and she transformed my hair. I still can't believe this is my hair! Bettie did an amazing job on my hair. She turned me from a solid brunette into a blonde bombshell in two hours. Honestly, I have never felt more at home in a salon than I did at LUSH. Bettie is a master at her craft and a true artist at work. She is very informative on how to maintain my hair whereas in the past, I've never known that there are steps I can take to preserve color. So i hate to write this review, but i think it needs to be done. Getting married on San Juan, this place had great reviews and seemed like a duh, but from the beginning it was not awesome. There was a lot of confusion and changing of minds on their part surrounding payments, times, etc, which should have been a warning for things to come. On my wedding day two lovely ladies showed up, but when my bridesmaids let them know how they wanted their hair done (simple curls with a twist back), they told them there wouldn't be enough time and insisted on updo buns for everyone (yeah, not what i said i wanted). My friends pushed back and got the blowouts they had asked for. Then my mother-in-law came in and they pulled the same thing and would only straighten her hair (one of us could have done that without a $35 charge) for sake of time. Keep in mind they knew the amount of people in advance and they had set the starting time. In addition to this, they mentioned they had booked other appointments that they needed to get to, but while i was getting my hair done, the other hair dresser had nothing to do. I had sent them a photo a few weeks prior of what i wanted my hair to look like (crown braid) and it took many many tries for them to get anything remotely close. It looked good in the end (still nothing like the photo), but it was a tough road getting there. I also had to re-pin almost all of the bobby pins with my own pins within an hour because my hair do was falling out. Makeup was a different story. Although we had to bring our own coverup (i thought this a bit weird), the make-up looked great on everyone. Payment was a bit awkward and very unorganized (especially since they knew in advance who was getting what done). Overall, nice ladies, but not the customer service or experience i was hoping for on my wedding day. read more

I was hoping for a great pedi based on the reviews but... She cut my nails without asking, I HATE SHORT TOE NAILS. The polish job was sloppy and she was ok letting me pay for without proper clean up. My heels are still rough. Basically I should've done it myself and saved $40. And this is exactly why my review exists. 1. It doesn't happen bc it's a simple question, cut the nails or not!!!" An appropriate length, ma'am, is what your client says it is, not down to the nub of the nail bed or what YOU'RE in the mood for that day. 2. A simple excuse me would've sufficed or even a hand gesture expressing that you were about to cut the nails would've worked. Do you give a haircut without consulting with your client? 3. I certainly didn't expect my nails to get cut the second I sat down being that standard pedicures usually encompass many more steps before the nails are clipped. 4. Poor workmanship doesn't "just happen." There was clearly polish all over my skin that you choose to ignore and expected me to accept. 5. It was the shortest and least thorough pedicure I've ever gotten, especially for the price. None of the standard smoothing and scraping tools were used on my feet except for a pumice rock. 6. From what I've found there are at least 2 other salons on the island that offer pedicure services: Christy's Island Salon and Spa D Bune. Bypass this lackluster service and contact the other 2 listed above if you need a pedi. read more

I came in from Indiana to Friday Harbor for a girls getaway with my cousins the week of June12th, 2017.. My hair was driving me nuts and I felt I needed something to be done with it ASAP. I went to her website at 10pm and Bettie was able to get me in the next day. It is a very quaint atmosphere with lovely music playing and it was decorated tastefully. We went over my options for cut and color, as I was growing my hair out and some of it was badly damaged. Bettie did a beautiful blonde and dark chunky coloring. She also gave me an inverted bob. I felt like a new woman! It was lovely and I was confident when I left. I will say, I spent almost $200 without tip. That was very pricey and I have lived in Naples, FL before and I never had to pay that much there. However, the experience was great. Owner was probably the rudest I've ever encountered. I walked in wanting to know availability for a pedicure and she looked me up and down paused then proceeded to tell me "I don't have ANY time today." Not even "I'm super slammed today, I could probably squeeze you in in a couple of hours." Did I mention there was only one other person in the salon? Bettie is AMAZING. I am a part time Islander still working and living in San Francisco and will now make it a point to schedule my trips home to the island based on Bettie's schedule. I'm transitioning to natural gray and no stylist in SF has been able to help me beyond "wait it out and keep cutting".
