It's the candy bars and melting marshmallows I always come back to though. The pastel pink doesn't hurt my eyes like some of the other colours and I love the sweet smell they emit. I'm also a sucker for their honey soap, Happy Hippy products and their massage bars. They're sticky but the essential oils in them definitely help to untie knots in the back and shoulders. The cool layout of the stores, the cute staff in the Brighton branch, the fresh ingredients of the products and the ethics of the company - none of the products are tested on animals - all give Lush an advantage over other beauty stores. I like what they're going for with their natural, handmade products, but I can't help but feel a little assaulted by the heady, overwhelming scent that escapes from the shop door and hits me in the face, every time I walk past! It's sort of like having your head involuntarily submerged in a giant vat of bubble-bath...okay, there are worse things, admittedly, but it's a pretty intense experience! For this reason, I like to get in and get out, which is a shame, because they have a lot of interesting products. I tend to stick to basics like moisturizer when buying for myself, because well, buying a set of 24 mini bath bombs for myself just feels a little extravagant! The 'Enzymion' face cream is amazing...great for oily skin as it's not too heavy and with Papaya and Aloe Vera extract, its really refreshing too! I also really like the bath bars as they last well and aren't sticky. The lavender one is especially effective if you need a long, hot, relaxing bath. Because I find lots of Lush products all together quite overpowering, I often just buy one or two items to mix with other bits and bobs, if I'm pressie shopping. Expect the usual bright, fragrant, cruelty-free and funky bath-time products, sold with minimal packaging and homepsun labelling - lots of chalk boards - and young, friendly staff. The store currently seems to be focusing on the scope for buying its products as presents, rather than an everyday purchase. The champagne 'bath bombs' are apparently a perennial best-seller, although I must say that I found it a little underwhelming. Mine just fizzed a little, broke up and then disappeared. But - as I've said before with Lush stores - I find their products (and the stores themselves) much too strongly fragranced for my liking. Lush peddles it fragrant wares in the South lanes. It's the kind of shop that you cannot really miss unless you have been unfortunate to have lost your sense of smell. I initially got dragged around here by an old girlfriend, but then started getting to odd face wash or item. Everything is naturally made and this is a perfect place to buy someone a present. They offer gift boxes at Christmas and will also wrap any other items you buy. The staff are knowledgeable of their produce and will always advise (this was handy for me as a clueless bloke). I like the way that the soaps they sell are taken from massive blocks almost like a cheese shop! A good shop to get hold of something a little different, or to bypass any random chemicals added to your beauty product. They also don't test on animals or have any untoward processes. Everything about this store is my favourite. The staff are incredibly friendly, not afraid to get hands on and really know their stuff. I can always trust their opinion when buying new products I haven't tried and not once have I been dissapointed. The products themselves smell wonderful, my favourites are Yoga Bomb, Rub Rub Rub, Rose Jam and Frozen. A lot of people describe the smell of the shop as overwhelming but you either love it or hate it. Personally I love it, I always spend at least an hour in there every time I go! I have been a long-time fan of Lush, and while the products are not as good as they once were, they still keep me coming back for more. The shop seems to be moving towards a "high-end cosmetics" branding (rather than the home spun style of years gone by) but still maintains the ethically sourced, environmentally friendly, all natural ethos that the company prides itself upon. You'll find the staff are extremely knowledgeable, very friendly and always ready to help pick out that perfect product... even to the point of offering samples (rare amongst cosmetic brands) if you're worried about how your sensitive skin will react. I've been shopping at Lush since the early days and I have always been a fan. They have some great products, the staff are knowledgable, and it smells ohhh so good in there. I am not giving Lush a 5 star rating because: *Prices have gone up, yet the sized of quite a few of the products are smaller *I feel suffocated by the staff when I go in. Yes there is such a thing as good customer service but it's too much. If I have any questions or need help, I'll ask for it. Apart from the the above, Lush is pretty damn cool. Lush stores are pretty unique places, which might be an odd thing to say about a business that now has around 600 stores in 43 countries, but Lush just haven't lost that sense of individuality that every single store has. No other company has come close to imitating what they do and, let's face it, there's no shop in the world that smells half as good. The staff in this place are faultless there always seems to be someone on hand to help you find what you're looking for no matter how busy it is, they're all incredibly knowledgeable about the products and they're always smiling. I love walking round here, picking everything up along the way and smelling it... which anywhere else would make you look like a right weirdo. Sorry ladies but I think I'm going to have to agree with the men on this one. I got dragged in here one lunchtime by a girl from work after one of our other girly colleagues came back into the office brandishing a free gift bag from Lush with more than 20 quid's worth of the stuff. Reluctantly I went along and was immediately plunged out of my depth, drowning in a sea of weird shaped dung-looking soap slabs and hideously overpriced creams and washes. I'd never been into a Lush store before, so the smell slapped me right round the chops and infested my sinuses for the rest of the day. While my friend happily skipped out of the shop with over £40 worth of stuff, I left empty handed, horrified and determined never to venture into one again. read more

Staff are floating throughout the shop in a now pressured way helping you with any questions and giving advice on the products. There's some products for men which include deodorants and shaving products. There's a free paper listing all the products prices and use instructions. LUSH has to be my number one high street store, and I rarely walk past without being drawn in by the lovely clean fruity smell. It's also the only store I don't find myself complaining about high prices, as the quality is always top notch, and I really support what they stand for with the vegetarian/vegan ingredients and the fight against animal testing. I had one issue with my Avobath bath bombs, for a few months they had actual pieces of avocado in, and apparently weren't supposed to (It was my favourite bomb, with one reason being it had no bits so they didn't all get stuck in my long hair) but LUSH very kindly sent me two different bath bombs for free to try out! I've almost ALWAYS been completely satisfied with their customer service skills at this particular branch. During my last visit a colleague helped me sniff out a certain product I wanted for my Fiance after seeing it in the catalogue, and she also gave us a free sample of another product. I can't remember her name but she was very pleasant and helpful. I have a LUSH collection, and am yet to come across a product that doesn't work. My favourites are the 'No Drought' dry shampoo, which is a lovely fruity smelling talc; Lemon Flutter, which is a miracle cuticle cream that I use for my nails and also to treat my Fiances dry skin around his nose (Works wonders); and my partner has been raving about the 'Cosmetic Lad' which is a very delicate moisturiser which makes it easier for him to shave, and gives him very soft skin. The brand prides itself on its friendly, homely reputation, even branching out into social-politics with anti-foxhunting blurb on its website. I can only stay in here for 15 minutes max before I feel as though I may have a nosebleed from the intense whiff of smelly things, however, in that 15 minutes I can pick up some good buys. Whenever I start to get paranoid, perhaps sometimes with reason, at the endless amount of chemicals in in many products, I head down to Lush to pretend I will always buy 'natural' products. One of my best buys was this strange lemon bar I rubbed on my armpits which was supposed to replace deodorant, but although it did work for a few hours, it wasn't really 24hr protection, although I think 24hr protection is slightly unnecessary. My skin is a bit sensitive, apart from the armpit bar, the hair products here are my best bits. Lush is intense and possibly not for sensitive skins or those prone to nosebleeds. read more

I love bath bombs and strong smelling soaps, so you'd think this place would be just up my street. Yet the staff hounding you is an absolute nightmare. Even when I tell them that I am just browsing. or that I know what I want, they relentlessly keep trying to engage you. It is worse than a telesales call! I'm a fan of Lush and their environment-friendly products which are not tested on animals, so definitely five stars for their ethics from me. BUT... the shop assistants don't leave you alone for a moment. Last time I was there, I tried to avoid eye contact while browsing and still was addressed by five (!) different shop assistants (are that many really necessary in a shop of this size?) . Each time I had to repeat that I was only browsing and yes, that product the shop assistant pointed out at me was lovely. I appreciate that these young employees are trained this way and want to do their job well, but please please give the customers a break. We don't need that much advice to pick out a soap and if we do, we can always ask. read more
