This world-class mastering house took on my indie project, worked with me and my indie budget and stood on their heads for me all the while, treating my project with the same professionalism with which they treat clients like Disney and Universal. A musician hero of mine named Sam Phillips mastered some of her stuff at Lurssen and I sort of followed her there like a peculiar groupie. And man am I glad I did.
The Lurssen team are truly a team of consummate pros who are really, really great at what they do. Nikki oversaw the administrative management of my project and could not have been more on top of it nor more helpful nor more gracious every step of the way. Grammy winner Reuben Cohen actually mastered my project, which came to him with more than a couple technical challenges (to put it mildly). And he took every measure possible to make sure I came out sounding, frankly, better than I (or my DIY-production) could otherwise dream of sounding.
The record came out more sonically spectacular than I could reasonably expect. The clarity, body, separation and volume achieved were more than I'd hoped for, and in my case, these were achieved with a few technical things stacked against us.
If you're like me, your music is your baby. And as I sort of freaked out here and there along the way because I was wanting to protect said baby, the Lurssen folk fielded all of my insanely, high-maintenance questions and quandaries without ever making me feel like I was as much of a handful as I most definitely was. And they exceeded every expectation and then some, both in terms of the audio and just being good people who communicate well. This is going to be my go-to mastering house from here on in. My highest recommendation to anyone serious about their record. read more
