Let me start off by saying this is one of those reviews I really struggled to write, why?…read more
Chief's Tacos is a newer set-up run by some friendly people, unfortunately the product served didn't live up to the hype, and what's Pancho's Rule #1? YES, "Keeping it Real"
So, I actually drove 26 Miles for one main reason, the Giant Hand Made Corn Tortilla Deep-Fried Quesadilla!!!
So, all your meats are pre-cooked on a flat-top gas grill, and Chief definitely does not have the speed of a Taquero so the line moves a bit slow, but the worst part of this was the lady pressing the masa https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/chiefs-taco-whittier?select=CXH5AVF8k5mZ5fAttEW1mg into large corn tortillas and making the Deep-Fried Quesadillas, definitely didn't have experience in what she was attempting to do and extremely slow! By the time I got my Deep-Fried Quesadilla my Tacos were COLD!!
You get in the line to order, place order, pay CASH or for you Non Cash Carrying Hipsters they accept Zelle, and then you get a number and wait for it to be called, unfortunately it seemed many people were ordering the deep-fried quesadilla and the orders just got further and further backed up!
Tacos and whatever else they sell are served plain and you help yourself from the condiment table https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/chiefs-taco-whittier?select=XMv8nx8YxRgd1mReszI6RA which is the same table that you place your order, so that was another traffic jam.
Overall, the Carne Asada, Chorizo y Pollo were pretty solid, the issue was slow in filling orders and the lady making the tortillas/Quesadillas was LOST!
Tacos ($2.00) https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/chiefs-taco-whittier?select=-21F7fiCLmA-PCYtDizC2A Waiting to eat these when I got my quesadilla was a big mistake, by the time I got the quesadilla the tacos were cold.
Chorizo https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/chiefs-taco-whittier?select=jHFjOWncq2SF_fgoZd-2Ig Next to the Asada this was my favorite, good flavor, nice tortillas good thing they were smart enough to make these prior to opening, they were fresh and tasty I would say a solid 4+ Stars if they were warm.
Pollo https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/chiefs-taco-whittier?select=jHFjOWncq2SF_fgoZd-2Ig Pretty good flavor but not my favorite taco.
Pastor https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/chiefs-taco-whittier?select=Ee912qnbRWR_SYaoUxDoNw NO Trompo, No Pina, it's all cooked on a flat-top it was a pretty average taco.
Now for the reason I drove 26 Miles..
Deep-Fried Quesadilla ($8.00) https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/chiefs-taco-whittier?select=lIOcL_XF7tT6h1kqjaRM0g I got this with Carne Asada, so the lady takes some fresh Masa and presses it into a large corn tortilla, she then fills the uncooked tortilla with your choice of meat and cheese, closes edges "think large Empanada" and drops it into the oil to fry!
https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/chiefs-taco-whittier?select=G-Y85QaTATiGkAIxXoBFaQ not only did the lady take WAY too long to make this, the outside was NOT crisp as something Deep Fried should be, but https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/chiefs-taco-whittier?select=T5n94AK99IrBg-VvB8mnuw the Masa was NOT cooked all the way through, so I just ate the filling and sadly tossed the tortilla, wow this guy really chops the meat up finely. At this point there is no reason to complain because I would not waste more of my time waiting for them to remake this mess, plus the line of people waiting on food behind me, all I could do is shake my head. #FAIL
Nice people but hopefully Chief will find another person to make tortillas or she will kill his business, on the positive side they do have some nice Aguas y Salsas https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/chiefs-taco-whittier?select=9to4YXNOOGwdTVO-FPfVSg
