And there you may smoke. We went inside because of the chill and all the tables under lamps were already taken. We were pleasantly surprized how they changed the menu; it has a larger range of dishes and also included a vegetarian one, plus dinner salads. That I welcome! Being a partial bunny rabbit myself and loving a well-thought-out, balanced salad. My husband had the Asian chicken saté dish, which he enjoyed. We didn't drink wine, but the house wine is good. I have had it in the past. The owner is a sommelier by now, and she has a great palate and vision of paring dishes with a good wine. She has traveled to South Africa and the US in search of interesting wines. One of my favorites is her choice of an English port, it's very yummy: Taylor's in case you read this far and want to know. It is not as sweet as some of the Portuguese ones. This is a good place to eat and enjoy some chill ambience.

I took the bus from the airport and was relieved to find out; Hey this bus dropped me off at a major train station (Station Bijlmer ArenA). Little did I know that station was my one-way train ticket to downtown. Not far from the station is the Holiday Inn Express - Arena Towers. I had to walk about a quarter mile from the station to the Holiday Inn Express. Along the way, I was surprised to even notice the Amsterdam ArenA. Hence the reason for distinguishing "Arena Towers" in their name. Plus the hotel is made up of both a regular Holiday Inn, and an Express type. I checked-in with Romy who was super welcoming! She verified my IHG membership, and made sure I was taken care of. And apparently the only room available for me was on the top level (the 17th). Sweet! Not only did she hook up a nice room, she helped me with planning my trip to Centraal Station. She explained the layout of their hotel, and the complimentary breakfast from 6:30am to 10:30am. I even got hooked up with a plug converter, only requiring a small deposit. The room ran me $348.35 or €308.23 for one night. Yes, pricey but every hotel downtown was booked since it was a bank holiday Monday. The room in general was average looking; Clean in my opinion though. Loved the blue light in the bathroom, as well as the standup shower with detachable showerhead. In the open, next to the bed was a set of hangers, a monitor for cable, and a bed. WiFi worked without a hitch. The bed was slightly firm and the beddings were nice and white. The view of the land, excellent! So overall, I enjoyed my short stay here and wouldn't mind staying again. The hotel was simply convenient being next to the station, the arena, and various food joints. The staff was on-point with everything, and I finally got some much needed rest. It's the reason we stay right, for sleep and rest? It's rare for me to give five stars to a corporate company, but service overshadowed the average stay. I'd never thought I'd say this, but "Thank you" Holiday Inn Express for the warm hospitality.

Clean, well set up rooms. Excellent breakfast and friendly staff…read more It's proximity to Amsterdam's Metro (M54) made getting into A'dam very easy.

I was in Nijmegen for work for the week and stayed in the Mercure Nijmegen Center Hotel. The main…read morething this hotel has going for it is the proximity to the train station (right next door) and downtown (10min walk away). Otherwise, there's likely better places to stay if you want quiet, comfort and relaxation One big tip I learned near the end of the stay- the rooms on the 1st floor (2nd floor up as the lobby is on the 0th floor) are much bigger and nicer than the remaining rooms in the hotel. The room itself is pretty small and has only the necessities you'd want in a room. The bed is only about a foot off the floor and comes with one thin sheet and one staticky comforter. The desk is tiny so if you want to put your laptop on it and have room for other stuff it's playing tetris. The worst part of the room is the bathroom. Wow is it tiny...I knew I was going to be in trouble when you can only creak the door open far enough to slide in sideways because the toilet is in the way to open the door 90 degrees or more. You also can't take 1 step in any direction without running into something. The tub/shower is only 2 feet wide with the base of the shower only 1 foot wide. I could not stand my feet together in the shower without them going up the sidewall, so you have to stand like a gymnast on a balance beam while in the shower. Also when I sat down on the toilet my head bumped the sink on the other 'side' of the bathroom. For a country with the tallest residents in the world, I never expected the bathroom to be the smallest in the world. As mentioned before this is located right next to the train station...so you hear the trains all night and morning except for the few hours they stop running. You also hear a lot of traffic on the street and sirens. I recommend taking noise canceling headphones or earpieces for a quiet night's sleep The last funny thing about this place is I wanted to go to the gym while here, which is according to the elevator on the 8th floor. However, the buttons only go to the 7th floor. I asked the front desk worker and he said yes the gym is open and you can go up there. So I took the elevator to the 7th floor and then took the stair to the 8th floor. There were no lights on in the 8th floor except emergency sign lights. There was also no carpet and as I walked around the corner I came to a construction zone that was blocked off with a ton of stuff lying around everywhere where it looks like nobody's been up to this floor in years. Thus the gym if it exists is on the other side of an area you can't traverse. Overall if you just want a place that's convenient to the train station and city that's pretty cheap this is your place. If you want to stay somewhere where you can sleep and shower you may want to try elsewhere.

Clean and nice hotel! And it is located next to the train station…read more You can have a Sauna, but need to inform reception, so that it is turned on.

It's so hip,…read moreand happening, am very happy got to experience it and my main reason for choosing it was because there was a direct bus from the bus stop outside which dropped me off near my work building in 35mins! So I guess having good intentions does matter. So why the love for this place? Well first let my start off with the lovely staff. I arrived at noon and check-in wasn't till 3pm. I was jet-lagged, tired, smelly and in desperate need of a hot shower and a place to rest. Nimka, at reception totally emphasized, called house-keeping and 45 mins later my room was available. The hotel's owner was also happy to supply me with a resident letter which was super essential for me to register with Amsterdam Town Hall and without which, I wouldn't have been able to work. Also Carlo at the front desk, later on in my stay checked that I was happy and when I mentioned the smell of the soup was fairly aggressive for me, since I'm a wee bit sensitively artificial smells, they got a neutral scent soap for me! Just saying! Moving on to the room - oh la la!! It's modern hipster living design elements at its best. Any Brooklynite's reading this review would totally want to live in this space! Everything (including the kitchen sink!) has its place and yet the room walked super spacious. I had a side view of the street and loved the blackout curtains so could sleep comfortably in the massive bed. The headboard was too cute / it's shape profile was like an Amsterdam canal house! The kitchen was thoughtfully stocked with pots/ pans/ baking dish/ cutlery etc. No toaster but I used the pan and excellent coffee plus tea machine. Tons of storage space and a lovely + comfy couch. Loved the thoughtfully curated books about Amsterdam that were in the bookshelf as well as the side table. Gadget-wise too, this hotel rocks! All the light switches are dimmers! If you press down on the switch longer, it becomes brighter! There are two usb chargers built-in next to the bedside table, which is super convenient. Also, the shower in the bathroom was fantastical! They had a rain shower which just melted away all my travel dirt and it was super refreshing to use, with great water pressure. The hand-held shower has 3 settings which it was super easy to toggle between. The tiles were delft blue and so u totally got the Dutch feeling. BTW, did I mention how spacious it was? Other amenities that impressed me was the sauna and the gym. There is a restaurant also attached with Movenpick Ice-cream!! This is my fave brand of ice-cream in the world! Ben & Jerrys!?! Pshaw! Movenpick's where it is at! Silky, smooth, buttery - make sure u try this ice-cream at the restaurant if u stay here. Btw, this place is also so well located, it's a short 20min tram ride to Amsterdam Central aka the touristy got spot but it's lovely to come back to this hotel and get away from the crowds and wind down and chillax. Other things I like about the place: - the Braille language in the elevator - the bowl of oranges near the elevator lobby - the wonderful cinnamon candy you get as a gift - the laundry facilities include soap and they also have hanging racks Overall absolutely recommend if you are looking for a cool and hip hotel in a great location for a short trip or even a long stay! We were able to find a last minute room here, and the rest was history. This hotel is modern, spacious, and delightfully new. We loved our room - from the techie-friendly way to open the door (don't worry - really easy!) to the modern bathroom with huge waterfall shower. The bed was very comfortable with two USB ports on each side for easy charging. There was even a stocked Nespresso machine in the mini-kitchen! The surrounding area was nice, with plenty of food in walking distance and the tram right out front. We were able to hop on the tram to get into the main city or head to the airport! (We did both.) I wish we had taken more photos, because this place is so cool that you have to see it to believe it. We will absolutely return to Amsterdam, if only to stay here. Long story short? Choose this one! Like a cherry on top, the staff was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended stay to anyone visiting Holland!

I never would have imagined traveling an hour outside of the city by train to a rather secluded hotel in the countryside, nor would it be my first choice but our primary purpose for this particular trip was a conference in Arnhem/Oosterbeek and this just so happened to be our second destination on our Benelux (minus the "lux") trip. Our room at the Bilderberg was spacious as far as European hotel rooms go and the bathroom was twice the size of the one in Amsterdam. The bathtub was a true soaking tub which was much appreciated on the two very rainy Autumn days which I stayed there. Very clean and well taken care of hotel. Every modern convenience and beautiful, peaceful hotel grounds. Trails, tennis courts, etc. The lounge was comfortable and served up great sandwiches. We hung out in the bar a couple of nights for cocktails with hubby's business associates. In this part of the world, cranberry and vodka doesn't translate very well but we had a good time and managed to meet a few friendly locals. The service was good. Almost everyone spoke English to some degree so communication wasn't an issue. Walls were a little thin but our hotel room was down a fairly private corridor. My only main issue with this hotel was it's "middle of nowhere" location. We didn't have a car and had to rely mostly on taxis to get to the other conference locations. No shops anywhere within walking distance which was a PIA (pain in the ass) considering I was not a conference attendee and had two days all to my self. Hmmm... in hindsight I guess there are worse things than staying at somewhat decent hotels with nothing to do but read and cat nap all day... At least I got over my jet lag pretty fast.

It is on lovely grounds though. Stunning. Middle of a park, and you can walk in the park on nice paths etc. The rooms are on the smaller side, or the rooms I was in anyway, 2 different ones two different stays. I do think they have different "levels" of rooms, and I got the lesser level. I imagine because I booked through hotels.com or some other discount website. The breakfast, included in the room price, was nice, and the restaurant seating area is gorgeous. I overlooked the gardens and it was a great way to start the day, especially since my rooms both faced out over the back of the hotel, which was not very pretty, and at times loud with trucks coming in and out with deliveries etc. The bar area is also lovely, and there were many guests sitting there whenever I went by it. NO pressure to have another drink, or one at all, you can sit there and read the newspaper with ease and comfort. Th parking lot is a little off to the side of the Hotel, which is fine with no rain, but I imagine would be annoying if it was raining. The hotel does rent bikes out (I think it was a nominal fee, more to ensure getting the bike back I think), and that is always a nice touch. I'd stay here again if the price was right, and if I had a car. This would be a difficult place to stay without a car.

Loes and Wing, the owners of the houseboat, were incredibly generous and accommodating hosts. This is especially true given my circumstances. To give some context, I am being reimbursed for my trip to Amsterdam, but in order to get reimbursed, I needed a signed contract and receipt as proof for my stay. Loes and Wing personally wrote, signed, and printed these for me -- much of it while they were on vacation! If that didn't already cause enough trouble for them, my friend and I arrived into Amsterdam around midnight, yet Loes and Wing graciously stayed up and waited for us to arrive -- greeting us only with smiles and a bottle of wine. Each day for breakfast, Loes and Wing went out to buy fresh bread for our breakfast, served when we wanted it, along with a generous assortment of juice, eggs, meats, cheese, yogurt, granola, and more. When it rained in Amsterdam the first day my friend and I were there, we were even provided with umbrellas to use. I was actually shocked that for the weekend we stayed in this houseboat, it wasn't sold out like nearly all the other boats in Amsterdam. One would think that the 5-star treatment we received as guests (along with a great rate per night) would cause this bed, boat, and breakfast to be permanently booked.
