You could notice that the people working in this hotel takes care of the maintenance and appearance since you park your car. Everything looks clean and well organized. The two girls at the reception were very nice and asked all the questions to be sure I had a comfortable stay. They gave me suggestions to local restaurants and gave me tips to park my car in town. The room was spacious and well organize. Flat TV , a good desk and overall... free internet. The bathroom is small but clean and modern, I love the shower. They even rent you a bike if you want to go out and do some sightseeing on your own. It is not too close to the city but if you can ride like 4 miles, you will be ok. I would suggest anybody to stay here if you don't want to pay the hotels in Amsterdam... it is only 20 minutes away. Breakfast is included too.

What I did not realize was the completely desolate location. Located in an office park, there are no restaurants, gas stations or convenience stores nearby. while riding a bicycle 4 miles might have been fun fifty years ago, I was not interested in a rainy night ride, so I called one of thr local, hotel recommended, pizza delivery options. I was told I would need to place the order with hotel reception. I called reception and was told that they would call back in a minute to take my order. Nearly an hour later I called to enquire, and was informed that they had forgotten. 45 minutes later a really good pizza arrived. There was no soap or shampoo in the bathroom, only a dispenser of some sort of liquid in the shower and by the sink. I remember these soap dispensers from elementary school. It's been a long time since I stayed in a room of this category that lacked a refrigerator or mini-bar. I don't think the single cup ice dispenser in the lobby makes up for the deficiency.

No signs or arrows are visible inside of the mall to direct you to the hotel's entrance. I checked in to room 573 on Thursday, 10/24/2019 for five (5) nights. It was a corner room, so I was looking forward to enjoying great views of the Utrecht City Center, but that was not the case (please see photos). My other issue with room 573, was that the door did not have a deadbolt lock - not good, since I was travelling solo. The room was a bit on the small side, but it was sunny, clean, quiet and the bed was comfortable. The complementary daily breakfast buffet comprised of many choices from yogurt, fruit salad, cheeses, cold cuts to eggs, cereals, waffles, fresh apples and fresh tangerines. There's variety, so you can plan to enjoy a different breakfast food item every day. The front desk staff was helpful when asked questions about the Utrecht City Center area and things to see. The breakfast staff was wonderful with their cheerful good mornings and bright smiles. The hotel is located inside of the Hoog Catharijne Shopping Mall, a five-minute walk from the Utrecht Central Station (use the exit closest to track1-4, that will place you near the Hogg Catharijne mall's entrance). After a day of sightseeing, shopping and dining are available into the late hours of the evening. On Fridays and Saturdays there's Market Vredenburg in the plaza area (located in the back of the mall) with fresh breads, cheeses, fruits and vegetables - that's worth a visit. The overall location makes this hotel perfect to hop over to Amsterdam or Rotterdam for a day of sightseeing. My experience overall was comfortable and pleasant.

There's not a lot going on directly at the hotel but it's about a 10-15 minute walk to the canal/shops/restaurants (walk through the train station). Overall, a great business hotel in a convenient location.

I have an issue with one of the coffee machines in the restaurant. It was broken the whole time I was there, a total of seven nights. This caused a long line at the other coffee machine at the restaurant. The breakfast buffet provided plenty including toast with chocolate sprinkles which is a typical Dutch treat. Bring a water bottle to refill as the lobby area has still and sparkling water. You can borrow an umbrella through a device at the lobby that lets you have it free for 48 hours. You release it with a credit card. The location is great. You have the mall at walking steps with food courts and many stores, including supermarkets. The huge train station is a five-minute walk. My room had a mini fridge, a safe, and an iron. I found the floor on the shower a bit slippery. I had leftovers from an expensive meal in Amsterdam. Tour guide said the attendant at bar will be glad to microwave it. She didn't for liability reasons. The food went to waste unfortunately.

The carpet in my room was packed with dirt, dust, and dozens of stains. The furniture had chips and cracks, and it was covered in a visible layer of dust, too. The towels were stained. The wall had weird drippy stains. The air conditioning vent was, like everything else, covered in dust. My throat was sore by check-out day. Sometimes they gave me 3 towels for the day, sometimes 4. They didn't refill the toiletries if I only used 1/2 a bottle; they just put it back in the row. When I used a glass for water, they didn't wash it, they just put it back in place. They didn't replace the sheets. They didn't always take out the trash. What did they do when they cleaned? My feeling is: this place is losing money and trying to pinch pennies everywhere it can (except Wifi; Wifi is free here and everywhere in Utrecht). My favorite was the empty minibar in the room. You have to ask for the items you want in advance. In the meantime, you get a mini-fridge that isn't quite cold enough to store food safely. Their "business center" is a computer and printer in the corner, but you need to place an order to print more than 1 page, and there's a charge per page. Breakfast is €20. Delicious breads and spreads, yogurt and granola, sausages, bacon, cheese, and mini muffins. They have a machine that makes nice espresso drinks. That was good. And the lobby was pleasant. By the way, for those booking in 2017: there is major construction taking place on 2 sides of the building and a highway on the 3rd. You're surrounded by piles of sand, concrete, more dust, and speeding cars and bikes. Creepy underpass to get to the hotel itself: not single gal-friendly. Do yourself a favor and pay that same price for a room east of the station, in the center proper.

They have a lot of seating in the lobby with tall windows to see outside. The decorations are really cute. There is a hotel bar with lots of options to choose from at a reasonable price. There is a breakfast buffet served daily. The staff is knowledgeable about gluten-free and offers GF bread, packaged pancakes and muffins. It all comes pre-packaged to avoid cross-contamination. They even offered to warm up the bread in the microwave. The bread and muffins were really good and did indicate GF on the package. There are also juice dispensers and individual fruit that I could eat. Overall we had a good experience and will continue to come back when we visit.

The staff was very rude to us, especially the female staff who rolled their eyes at us when we asked them to heat up an entree for a diabetic family member who needed to eat. Housekeeping was flawless and put everything back the way it was left, down to where our pajamas were left on the bed. The hotel though small, was modern and clean. Our favorite part of the stay was the breakfast with tons of variety, fresh bread and fruits, meat and the wonderful espresso machines. We took our time at breakfast, arriving about 7:30am during our stay and it was not crowded then. We enjoyed speaking with Cherry a few days in a row, and she was so hospitable each time we had an encounter or request. Though this was in our max budget for a stay for two people, we hope we can return again in the future! Pros: 2 min walk to tram and bus stop Nice area Cons: 12-15 min tram ride to Centraal station. Stayed end of March and there was construction happening on the tram lines right outside centraal so we always had to stop for 5-10 mins to get to the tram stop. Not much other transport options so we were kind of stuck with having that delay every time we went from the hotel to center city. Tram 26 from centraal to Rietlandpark stop doesn't operate on sundays-- use the bus. Any decent restaurant is 10-15 m walk and most places close early (which stinks for Americans from NJ and used to places being open late)

They really do everything to make our stay great! The rooms are nice, the staff so very friendly. But the reason I give the rating I give is very simple.... The logistics and the small things compared to the other location they have not much further from the city center. But the amount of time to get to the center is the same due to the transportation option. Is not as convenient. Their parking garage is small and they charge 35 euros and is not even for 24 hours we had to take the car out at 1500 or 3 pm They had breakfast for free and that is amazing but the amount of inconvenience. We got lost looking for the tram... so much wasted time. The other location by the convention arena is much easier and the metro is right in front of it. They don't charge for parking and we were allowed to keep the car in the garage more than 24 hours. Over there is more expensive but the peace of mind is more important when on vacation... so I would not recommend this location.

I took the bus from the airport and was relieved to find out; Hey this bus dropped me off at a major train station (Station Bijlmer ArenA). Little did I know that station was my one-way train ticket to downtown. Not far from the station is the Holiday Inn Express - Arena Towers. I had to walk about a quarter mile from the station to the Holiday Inn Express. Along the way, I was surprised to even notice the Amsterdam ArenA. Hence the reason for distinguishing "Arena Towers" in their name. Plus the hotel is made up of both a regular Holiday Inn, and an Express type. I checked-in with Romy who was super welcoming! She verified my IHG membership, and made sure I was taken care of. And apparently the only room available for me was on the top level (the 17th). Sweet! Not only did she hook up a nice room, she helped me with planning my trip to Centraal Station. She explained the layout of their hotel, and the complimentary breakfast from 6:30am to 10:30am. I even got hooked up with a plug converter, only requiring a small deposit. The room ran me $348.35 or €308.23 for one night. Yes, pricey but every hotel downtown was booked since it was a bank holiday Monday. The room in general was average looking; Clean in my opinion though. Loved the blue light in the bathroom, as well as the standup shower with detachable showerhead. In the open, next to the bed was a set of hangers, a monitor for cable, and a bed. WiFi worked without a hitch. The bed was slightly firm and the beddings were nice and white. The view of the land, excellent! So overall, I enjoyed my short stay here and wouldn't mind staying again. The hotel was simply convenient being next to the station, the arena, and various food joints. The staff was on-point with everything, and I finally got some much needed rest. It's the reason we stay right, for sleep and rest? It's rare for me to give five stars to a corporate company, but service overshadowed the average stay. I'd never thought I'd say this, but "Thank you" Holiday Inn Express for the warm hospitality.
