I arrived early and had to wait for my room, but I think they wound up upgrading me to a suite on the prestige floor without an upcharge. It was wonderful. Breakfast buffet was not included, but at 22 euro was a bargain, and had variety for traditional Dutch breakfast, French/German styles, and US/English style. All very nicely done. Had an early pick up for a taxi back to Schipol at the end of our stay, and the night clerk graciously prepared coffee and tea for us. Would certainly stay again if I had reason to come back to this city.

Think that I will stay here next time and be close to my Family. I can always ride the Train into Amsterdam...

What it lacks in luxury, it more than makes up in atmosphere. The 'Lange Jan' (or 'Long John') takes its name from the huge medieval tower next door. Easy to find you way home to ;-). It doesn't have a lobby. Instead, you have to check in at the bar of the friendly pub underneath the hotel. If you want to explore the beautiful old city of Amersfoort with al its restaurants, shops and museums, and not spent too much time on your hotel room, this is your best value. The friendly staff will show you all the highlights (also the 'off the beaten track' places normally reserved for locals), but in truth you can easily spend a day or two in the immediate vicinity on the square where this hotel is conviently situated.

This was an almost fatal dinner for my wife. We told the…read morewaitress that my wife is deathly allergic to mushrooms while ordering her meal. The waitress checked with the kitchen and told us that the ordered meal did not contain any mushrooms. While eating my wife felt her tongue and throat swell and found a big slice of mushroom underneath the fish with some vegetables. After immediately vomiting, she injected herself with her EPI pen which luckily worked as advertised. I have no idea why they would serve her mushrooms with a meal that normally is not served with mushrooms, while knowing she is deathly allergic to mushrooms?? These people are either extremely incompetent, dangerous, or both.
