5 stars up! Came…read morehere to visit my childhood movie karate legend Bruce & his son Brandon Lee's gravesite. It was obviously different than the other graves because unlike the other sites surrounded by grass, it was paved, had railings, a walkway, and had a feel that it was visited pretty regularly by visitors. The two sites were close together and the engravings on the headstones were eloquently written. For Brandon's, a book line was engraved from the novel, Sheltering Sky, by Paul Bowles. Brandon was recorded quoting it in his very last interview saying, "..because we don't know when we will die, we get to think life as an inexhaustible well. Yet everything happens a certain number of times, and a very small number, really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, some afternoon that's so deeply a part of your being that you can't even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four or five times more. Perhaps not even that. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it will all seem limitless." For brandon and Eliza, ever joined in true love's beauty. Bruce's headstone says, "Founder of Jeet Kune do...Your inspiration continues to guide us toward our personal liberation." Rest in paradise my childhood movie karate hero! The rest of the cemetery has headstones from as early as the 1800s. Some headstones were family plots, individuals and some were incredibly high, huge & grand. We walked around the cemetery for about an hour researching & browsing different headstones & names we were curious about. I am not a cemetery fanatic, and I certainly don't make it a point to hang out at cemeteries, but that's how interesting it was, that we actually spent time there after visiting the Lee's graves. Highly suggest to visit when Seattle is dry. I wouldn't call our visit a fun experience, but definitely interesting and one for the curious Lee fans. One of the most beautiful cemeteries I've been to that over looks the water, and a very thought provoking place to visit in the sense that we will all die one day. Visiting places such as these helps me to reflect & ponder, what do I want others to say about me on my headstone after I am gone? How do I want to live the rest of my life?

Another lovely cemetery that in the spring and summer must be stunning. I came to visit the…read morecemetery as a admirer of all cemeteries and was pleasantly surprised to ind out that there is a 'cemetery within a cemetery' namely "Mt. Hope" cemetery. My husband is Jewish and if he is not with me, I am constantly on the lookout for potential family members and such. I was stoked to find on the far side of the cemetery and behind the big hedges, a resting place for the Jewish families who have lived in Seattle. There were many with clever and heartwarming epitaphs and pictures but again, like many of the cemeteries I am honored to visit, this memorial park is well taken care of, many of the grave sites had silk flowers and the mausoleums were warm and smelled wonderful. Many times the mausoleums I visit are stale, cold and seem very lonely. The two here were clean, warm and someone had plugged air fresheners in the wall sockets so they smelled inviting and looked after. As in most well cared cemeteries and mausoleums, there was a spotlessly clean and stocked bathroom inside. In the second mausoleum that I visited, the one that looks like a church, there is an entire alcove devoted to the Asian folks who have died and what a great sight all the flowers, knick knacks etc were. Many thanks to whomever keeps these lovely grounds so well maintained.

My grandmother and uncle used a lot of time deliberating between every little detail of the headstone; it honestly took quite some time. Melanie was incredibly patient and did not rush the process. She gave everyone adequate time to make their final decision and was transparent about what was / wasn't included. Working with Melanie was very pleasant. A minor complaint was that I had to leave multiple messages in order to reach Melanie so I'm not sure if my messages were ever relayed. In the end, I had to reach out a fifth time before I finally spoke with Melanie. I'm sure they are always incredibly busy and do not fault them for this at all - it's just a mere FYI for anyone trying to contact them. Overall, I really enjoyed the process with Mount Pleasant.

I wasn't sure where to begin with funeral planning until a relative had suggested using Butterworth, seeing her great experiences with them through various family members who had used their services. While I initially spoke with Nikola, I eventually ended up working with Kendra, who was incredibly patient with my very difficult family; Kendra worked double the hours when meeting with my family and worked her butt off in trying to help us find a Cantonese Buddhist monk who could assist with handling the entire flow of the ceremony. During our meeting, my indecisive elders kept changing their minds after making decisions and legitimately drove some to rip our hair out. I thank Kendra for remaining calm and collected while chaos ensued between family members. While Kendra is a newer member of Butterworth, her years of experience in this industry was demonstrated through her professionalism and I'm grateful to have worked with her throughout this very challenging time in my life. Every step along the way, Kendra checked in to ensure no mistakes were made and always accommodated to my family's ever-changing requests. On the day of, she was fantastic about making sure all our needs were met. Even when I gave her the nod to close the casket and my grandmother ran over because she didn't want the casket to close, Kendra immediately knew what to do and kept it open so my grandmother could truly have her final moment with my grandfather. I knew we were on a time crunch and honestly none of us wanted to say goodbye, but eventually it had to be done. Kendra was incredibly respectful when everyone was so emotional. Butterworth was definitely the more expensive option while we were shopping around but I had a great experience with them and see why my relative had recommended this particular funeral home. You essentially get what you pay for. Thank you, Kendra, for providing us with great service.

My aunts hired this funeral home to bury my great grandmother and my brother hired this funeral home to bury both of our aunts. My excellent experiences are largely due to Barbara Cannon's (Funeral Director Intern) professionalism, open-mindedness, sense of humor, and humongous heart. She's a true renaissance woman!!!!! Ask for Barbara if you call on Butterworth to help you. Btw, the Cremation Society Northwest is next door and Barbara also answers the phones on those calls. If you want to be hands off, they will take care of your details impeccably with utmost respect. But in death's regard, I'm like Little House on the Prairie old school. I feel it's my love-based obligation to be part of the transition when my relatives and friends pass on. I want to groom them, do their hair and make-up, dress them, give them one last spray of their favorite perfume or cologne, sing them their favorite song, just be with them before they're either presented in casket at their funeral service or before they're cremated. I want to make sure their favorite music can be played, their favorite flowers can be around, etc. There aren't many people now-a-days who feel the way I do or who want to do the things that I do for the dead. And there aren't many funeral homes that are sensitive or receptive to this -- they want to do their thing their way. Barbara is different so Butterworth is different. If you want to prepare your deceased, Barbara will make sure you have a private room to do it in. If you don't have your own, she'll bring you their assortment of cosmetics, hair brushes, etc. and she'll even help you with the dressing (you'd never know it but this woman is strong.) Barbara understands. She's interested in burial traditions in other other countries, in other cultures, etc. Arthur A. Wright Chapel (which is attached to the funeral home) is a sweet old-feeling chapel with a serene vibe. There's plenty of room for any type of service you'd like to have. They accommodate everything: Visitation, Memorial Service, Graveside Service, Chapel Service, Church Service, Committal Service, Special Gatherings. I wouldn't care if Butterworth were a few bucks more for burials or cremations, I'm a loyal customer regardless. Service extraordinaire. And they understand.
