Menu 8/6/20

Luna's is a Hobbs America institution. Supposedly my dad went to school with the woman who started it up... and something about it running in the family now? Hell, I don't know. We had a bit too much tequila for me to remember much more of that story. All I know is I missed this place after growing up on it. As soon as I gained my driver's permit in high school, it was, "Drive me to Luna's and let's get dinner." The Sizzler is a popular item. This time (8/6/20) I wanted couple of enchiladas and a beef taco. It comes with a side order of beans and rice. The salad, salsa, and pepper included with that meal are all fresh. My kiddos shared a 4-taco plate (all chicken with a ton of cilantro on them) with a side of beans and rice. The salsa had quite a kick, so be careful with little ones and their curious little phalanges. Lol. There is minimal outdoor seating. It's more of a drive-in or grab-n-go type place. Cash or cards accepted. Phone orders available.

Sizzler Nachos

Love the sizzler nachos, also the steak ranchero burrito is top notch just add beans to it. This place is a must try

This is the one restaurant I have to go to every time I come to Hobbs. I always stick with the Sizzler or the Sizzler Nachos. The 30 years I've come to this place, my food is always good. Hints: 1. The place only accepts cash. 2. It's a walk-up location. The only seating is outside. 3. It will take some time to get your order but it's worth it. Don't go in a rush.

I had heard of the Sizzler and had to have it. Once I got there and saw the menu, the Suicide Burrito was a must try also. When you pull up, you park and walk up to order. Seeing everything going on, it would be way more efficient to call in your order in advance. The people are super nice, but the food does take a bit of time. Another rookie mistake I made was not asking for extra hot sauce. It is delicious! The Sizzler? It is on the burrito portion of the menu, but it's not at all. It is a crisp tortilla sandwich of sorts. The base is a crisp tortilla topped with spicy ground meat, cabbage and cheese topped with another crisp tortilla. The folks I spoke with thought the meat was mega spicy, but I did not taste that. Using their red hot sauce gives the whole thing a great juicy flavor. Deciding how to eat this tasty, crispy conundrum is up to you. The Suicide Burrito? Absolute yumminess. It is the same meat from the Sizzler with lettuce, tomato, cheese, onion and refried beans. The thing must weigh a couple of pounds. This would be my go to order in the future.

I moved out of Hobbs and any time I go to Hobbs and don't get Luna's I'm so so so disappointed. By far my FAVORITE place to eat.

This place is horribly nasty and I can not believe that the health department has not closed them down. Really bad food and really dirty.

Very friendly, attentive, and made our dining experience great. I ordered the chicken flautas dish and my husband ordered the shredded beef chimichanga. The flautas were good, but not something that I would reorder. They kinda reminded me of frozen flautas that they just threw in the microwave. My husband did enjoy his chimichanga though. It was pretty big! Our second time around, we were a party of four. It wasn't at all busy, but yet there was no hostess in sight so we waited to get seated. Our sever quickly approached us with a stinky attitude. She was in no way in the mood to be working and had an unkempt appearance. Her way of approaching us was rude and our drinks sat empty a few times. My husband didnt even get his drink and we had to remind her about it. This time around I decided to try out the three crunchy shredded beef tacos and my husband ordered the chicken fajitas entree. My beef tacos were amazing and I will definitely order them again. The beef was so flavorful. The chicken fajitas dish is huge. It came with tortillas, a salad in a taco bowl, rice and beans. It is definitely enough for two! They have various dishes and we will most likely be back to try them out. They also have desserts! Thank you to Kevin for providing us with such great service our first time around!

OVERALL If you're looking for affordable Mexican cuisine…read morewith really good flavor where adult beverages are served, El Jimador is a safe bet. RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 4 | Service: 4 | Ambiance: 4 | Price: 4.5 PARKING Ample. LOCATION/AMBIANCE It's on the south side of town near the high school. This place looked nice on the outside and in. There was a variety of tables for different-sized groups. They had a few flatscreens and pleasant music playing. The alarm system was annoying alerting them every time someone came through the door, but I guess that's what helps them know when they have customers. THE GRUB It must've been the ground-to-sky flag flapping in the breeze outside with "tortas" on it that made me gravitate toward the Mexican sandwich ($7.99). Mine came with two small sides of salsa, a red and a green - neither of which I truly cared for because they were overly acidic and not spicy whatsoever. The guisada that I chose was delicious, however, the portion seemed small. The horchata was served in a huge cup & didn't disappoint at all. LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB There is a kid's menu with limited options. I posted a photo of it. SERVICE Kind of slow getting up to the front on 1/3/2024. Then I realized they thought I had a takeout order and they were rushing to bring out two large bags of food to me. Lol. The lady who took my order was friendly and efficient. MY FAVORITE PART... There are a few options for meat on the torta. I went with carne guisada which I couldn't recommend more. NOT SO FAVORITE PART... The salsas. TIP Alcohol is served here. Please have a designated driver.

Service was good but the food was disappointing…read more There wasn't much flavor to the barbacoa in the burrito or the chicken flautas. The sauce on the enchiladas and the guisada was smoky but not flavorful. Not what we were hoping for.

Review #2,000!…read more OVERALL Taqueria Villa Nueva is a Mexican restaurant in Hobbs, NM that serves the best torta I've tried in the dusty small town. This is a great place for a family meal. RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 4.5 | Service: 5 | Ambiance: 4 | Price: 4 PARKING I parked near the front door but only because the place wasn't all that busy. I wish they would paint some parking lines or make it more clear where their drive-thru window begins and ends. Otherwise, it's not that far to walk with nearby street parking. LOCATION/AMBIANCE The dining room has a couple of beautiful murals inside. The buffet area was set up near the register and the kitchen. There were several different sizes of tables. They played a Spanish radio station in the background with good melodies, but way too many commercials at just before noon. THE GRUB As soon as I saw the opportunity for a torta de barbacoa ($9.99), I requested it. This Mexican sandwich was absolutely delicious. I wanted everything on it - meat, avocado, lettuce, tomato, & potatoes. This was an awesome portion for lunch. On the side was a batch of lukewarm shoestring fries which were not seasoned at all. I didn't eat many of them, so next time I will see if they will swap them fries for some arroz Mexicano! Lol. The nice lady asked me which salsa I wanted - "red or green?" I laughed and said both. She obliged. The red is definitely spicier than their green, but still I could not stop eating it. LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB No kid's menu available that I saw. There were high chairs/slings, though. SERVICE Welcoming & friendly! My takeout order was out in about 5 minutes. MY FAVORITE PART... The barbacoa! NOT SO FAVORITE PART... The fries! TIP Lunch buffet looked really good.

First time here, it's simple Sunday buffet but very delicious. The food was so flavorful. 10/10read more
