I called and had parts order a battery for my Mazda Miata. Scheduled an install the day after they received it. When I checked in, I signed forms that showed $120 charge plus Shop fees. Imagine my surprise when 15 minutes later, somebody came to have me sign out for $360. The explanation is that they did not have the cost of the battery of $240 when I signed the check-in paperwork. Impossible as they ordered it and had it in stock prior to me getting there. A true bait and switch. If I would've known it was $360 to buy and install the battery I would've found another option. I'm no longer going to take my other cars there for any type of service. read more

Worst car buying experience of my life! That has has now taken 4 months of it, and there still isn't any end in sight! Back in May, my wife and I purchased a 2017 Honda CR-V from Lum's Warrenton Toyota. We had it less than a few days, when it threw every possible error code it could. We take it into the dealer. They have for a few days. Claimed they fixed it, and got it back. Two days later. Errors are back. Back to the service center. Again, a few days later, they say it's fixed. I get it home. Next day... You guessed it. Codes come back. Give it to them again. This time, they finally admit they have no idea what's wrong with it, and will send it to a Honda Dealer to service. About a week later, they call and say it's fixed and they are sending someone to go get it. A few hours later, I get another call. Halfway back from the Honda dealer and all the codes came back while the service tech was driving it back to me. So, they turned around and took it back yet again. A few more weeks, and Honda finally admits they can't fix it either. "Parts are on worldwide backorder." was the line given. So, finally over three months of spending more time driving loaners than our purchased vehicle, Lum's finally admits they can't fix it, and sold me a bad car. So, they offer to buy it back and let us pick a new one. They say, look at their inventory online and let them know what we're interested in. We found three cars listed on their site. Told the salesman, and headed down to see them. Two of them weren't even in Lum's possession yet! They didn't have them, but them claimed they "Have to list in our inventory due to dealer laws." I retorted, "Then, why don't you add a disclaimer stating that, and that all vehicles may not be available at time of listing and to call ahead to check?" They did not have an answer for that one. The one car they did have out of three hadn't even been through detail yet. The entire interior was covered in crumbs, dust, and dog hair. So, since the three we were actually interested in were available, they offered to show us some alternatives. And, oh man, did the sales team once again push upselling! We were looking for a replacement of equal or lesser value, since the payments were already higher than we initially wanted. Instead they kept trying to push us into vehicles a few thousand more than what the Honda cost, with no offer or effort to discount it to match the original price. They hosed us over once, and think they can squeeze even more money out of us, now!?! Seriously, WTF? So, a few weeks of no car (It's sitting somewhere at Lums?) and we still have a loaner. They finally get something we think we'd like as a replacement. A 2018 Buick Regal TourX. We test drove it and liked it enough, to take it and be done with this ordeal. So, we took possession of it last week and thought the saga was finally over. This morning, the driver side seat motor broke. And, since it's automatically slides the seat back when you open the door, it tried to move and ended up jarring itself into a weird 45 degree angle and made a horrible grinding noise. I got the seat to straighten out, however it is now at maxium distance from the wheel. Which means, my wife cannot reach the pedals to drive it. I have to use a pillow behind my back to reach. Call Lums Service department today, and they tell me they cannot even look at it, until September! So, now Lums has officially sold me two broken cars with no sympathy. No apologies. And, not much in the way of doing anything to try to make this horrible situation any better. I will never purchase another car from Lums. And, I will discourage all of my family, co-workers, and friends from doing the same. Apparently small town dealerships figure they have a captive audience, and don't need to be decent to be successful. Want a new car? Best go inland to a major city with tons of dealers competing, instead of just three. These small town dealers are the worst I have ever encountered in my 30+ years of owning cars! read more

Updating - I did purchase a new Toyota truck here this year; my sales person, Bill, was professional, analyzed my wish list and was able to show me a 2022 Tacoma that was pretty close to what I wanted. They gave me a good deal on my trade-in (2007 Dodge RAM), and there was minimal 'haggling'. I am very happy with my purchase. The 'little room' experience, which I've always and continue to despise, wasnt too bad. Their internect interface person was great as that was my initial contact - she even sent a little personal professional video. On the flip side, Toyota itself is partially to blame for 3 star - the main Toyota website infers that you can 'build your vehicle' and send it to the dealer and 'have it made'...I was perfectly willing to wait. After much consternation I was finally informed this simply isnt true. You can only have what they 've shipped. Thats it. So I did order some ancillary pieces that I wanted from the parts dept. The directions for the parts - Oh My God. the Step Rails, their instructions were "You Need To Go to the dealership for directions". There were actually the easiest to put on, thanks to handy YouTube videos. The Bed Extender - the directions were FLAT OUT WRONG. It contained a drilling template (yes, you have to drill into your precious new vehicle), that was completely incorrect and had I followed it I'd have an extra hole in my frame. Luckily I used the part itself as a drilling template and this worked good. The mudguards, well they had no instructions at all, which wouldve been helpful since they have multiple screws you need to remove from the underside and reinstall. But I got it figured out after a few needless mistakes. The showroom is lovely, they have a nice waiting area while you have your oil changed or other quick service. And I'm hoping that when I need service, I dont have to wait 3 weeks for an appt like I did for my Dodge RAM several years ago. read more

Bought a used truck AND a NEW Corolla. The Toyota has been great, the truck? Not so much. Turns out when I tried to trade it in (I no longer need a full-size truck), it turned out that it had been wrecked, not just a dent, but within a quarter panel of being totaled (who knows about possible frame damage). This was NOT disclosed at the time of sale. This made the truck lose at least half the trade in value. ALSO, THERE ARE TRACES OF Stop-Leak being added. I tried to work a deal with Lums alerting the ownership by letter about my issues. I also let them know that there were issues that may affect getting a new deal financed. They could have done the right thing, but didn't. So ALWAYS ask to see the Car Fax report, check for signs of "quick fixes," and DO NOT BUY from Lums Auto. read more

Got in the car and noticed it still wasn't fixed. Went back in and was helped by the assistant manager. She took care of me but had to order more parts. Red battery light came on on a trip to the coast Sunday. Took it into Lums early Mon and explained that I didn't have an appt, what the problem was and, the age of my battery and alternator. They got it done at the end of the day. After paying the bill I got into the car and it still displayed the red battery light. They explained that the mechanic checked it out and was ready to drive but, if the problem reoccurred, to replace the alternator. As I'm handicapped, I refused to accept the repair and gave the keys back. Told they didn't have any appts available until Fri. I told them to replace the alternator and have it ready the next day or have the general manager call me and explain why. They got it done the next day and I picked it up and the repair is working properly. There was no offer to refund the misdiagnosis bill. What upsets me the most is that Lums mechanics and service writers were willing and encouraging a handicapped person to drive a car with a red battery light on 100 miles back home and to return a few days later for proper repairs. read more

While waiting for my truck I listened to a salesman brag to another salesman about overcharging an older man who was a military veteran. I was mortified. I have been lied to and overcharged every time I've been in this business. Do not use this poor excuse for a used car lot. It is worth the dive to the Portland area for a larger more professional Toyota dealership. Our family have been Toyota fans for decades. And Lum's supporters for twenty years. So I was sad with my most recent experience. My 300,000 mile Avalon had one of those essential cam-shaft sensors go bad close to their lot. The folks were reasonably nice in letting my car stay there over night while the 4x as expensive as NAPA part shipped from Portland. no problem. But... apparently one cannot rent a car from Lum's with a Debit/Visa card from WAUNA...so... call a cab. Next day...I drop a small 10mm bolt into the abyss...Parts Dept. does not have specs or bolts. Off to Auto Zone...There are any number of ways this could have been 5 stars but I will simply have to carry adequate tools and hardware in my trunk. read more

I recently moved to Astoria and my Prius wouldn't start and had to be towed. I had no idea where to have it towed so I ramdomly selected Lum's. WOW! I was dreading the worst car repair news and to my surprise they said, "Our instrument reader indicated that is was a simple fix, the battery wasn't fully charged. We put it on the Toyota charger and it's now ready for pickup". I went in to pick it up and the next thing they told me was, " We're not charging you anything. We simply put it on the charger". Wowzer! I've told all of my neighbors and I hope this post is read by many. Nick Brown is the person I worked with. Because of him, ! I promise to come back into your showroom as soon as I figure out which new car to purchase from you. My significant other is 6 feet 5 inches and needless to say he barely fits into my Prius. We were on vacation traveling north and had some repairs done on our RV in Coos Bay. They had removed our ABS fuse and lost it. We called everywhere for a replacement and finally found Lums. I talked to Steve in parts and he was able to locate the part in Portland and had it shipped to Warrenton where we were staying. He called the next day to tell us the part had come in. We are in Seaside most weekends so it was easy to get the car into this shop and get the desired services. I waited just over an hour, service writer went over the numbers and I loved the price! Lum's is why reporters do hidden camera stories on scam auto service. I paid for a 70k mile inspection, tire rotation and oil change on my Prius V3 wagon. A week later I noticed a sound coming from my wheel and took it back in. I was told one of my calipers had seized due to no brake pad left on drivers rear. This meant they did not inspect my brakes and I doubt they rotated my tires. They told me it was unsafe for me to drive off the lot. I trust work to be done properly, especially by the brand dealership. read more

. Absolutely the worst service department at a Toyota dealership I have ever encountered. I owned Toyotas for almost 30 years and now will never buy another one because of Lums. They had my car for months, charged me thousands, and could not fix it. Their "mechanics" (who are not actually mechanics but "Toyota certified techs") know absolutely nothing about hybrids or how they work. They are incapable of critical thinking or problem solving and rely solely on computer codes for diagnosis. When I pointed out that it might be the computer that's causing the issue (based on my extensive research and information given to me by Toyota factory recall notices), I was greeted with misogyny and derision wrapped in jargon intended to distract me away from the fact that these guys are just completely incompetent. I should never have let them keep working on it after they charged me for a tow that they incurred while driving it when I had already warned them that it would break down. My neighbor also warned me about them. If you need any kind of real work done on your car, go to Graf's if you can get in. ​ read more

I bought a 80K truck in February 2023 and still do not have a set of spare keys. This is just ridicules. They use any excuse under the sun with the chip market issues. They are solved people. Terrible customer service. I am a service member stationed over seas looking at a truck they had for sale. Calls are not easy so texting is all I could do. I had an agreed upon price and my wife was willing to call with a deposit. Ralph (sales rep) said he could not take the payment at that time and have my wife call in the morning. So she did to no answer. I had 1/3 down payment in cash and pre qualified for the price in full. They took the easy sale and sold the truck out from under me and strung me along for a week. I had my second excellent experience at Lum's Auto Center last week. As soon as I pulled up, I was met by a cheerful and welcoming gentleman who led me to the service desk. I was immediately checked in for my appointment by the courteous service tech who detailed exactly what was to be performed on my vehicle. I was also given a projected time for completion. The waiting area is very comfortable and inviting, and it seemed I had hardly settled in when the service tech approached me with the news that my vehicle's service had been completed. The cost of the service was very reasonable, and my freshly washed truck was ready to roll. Though I had to drive over an hour to get there, I feel it was more than worth it. I highly recommend Lum's Auto Center for your vehicle's service needs. read more

I have been a frequent costumer of Lums since I was 16 years old- as well as my family since they opened in 1969. I have always been treated so well, I made an appt for a recall (third one on my car) I am very disappointed in my most recent experience - the motto is treated like family and I/we have been! For this appt for my oil change and fuel pump replacement- I called and said "can I drop my car off" before they opened due to my schedule for work -nothing was explained to me on where to leave my keys so I just left them in the car- I called to follow up and make sure they got it only to find out my appt had been no -showed. Very frustrating as It was a hassle because no one could take me to work that early- they worked me in later this week. I am stuck without a car and no way to pick it up due to my work schedule. The service manger, Nate could have avoided this by taking the thirty second to explain where to leave the keys, I realize this is mainly my fault- but do not assume your patrons "just know" what to do and where to leave things. read more

I purchased a used 21 Ram 2500 from out of state. The truck had a clean title but arrived with small dents and had body work done to one of the doors. My fault for not seeing it in person first but have had good luck with other dealers (Dave Smith) while doing this. The first problem came when I requested a purchase agreement prior to sending funds. Tracy in finance couldn't understand why I wouldn't send funds prior to receiving the purchase agreement and was very adamant I send them immediately. I was finally able to get a emailed copy of the purchase agreement which at that point I transferred funds. In the purchase agreement I was charged for registration and title as agreed upon 2/27. I reached out on 4/9 to see when I should expect my title and registration and was assured by Tracy it should be soon since she submitted it to my states DMV. On 4/29 I received mail from LUMS with the title and registration paperwork that I filled out on 2/27 with a note to go to my local DMV to get it transferred in my name. I reached back out to Tracy and was told it was for a temp tag and they do not do registration or titling and I'm on my own. I've purchased many vehicles out of state and have never had a more difficult time dealing with someone in finance. My states law requires dealers to submit the paperwork when the vehicle is sold by a dealer and I guess Oregon is different? LUMS refused to issue a refund for title and registration. I ended up incurring an additional $250 to register here I AK after being told that the paperwork had already been submitted and the fee had been paid at the time of purchase of the vehicle. We have purchased many vehicles from out of state through Dealers and they have always sent paperwork to the DMV for title and registration. The fact that LUMS collected for these services, their employee Tracy then confirming in an email that the paperwork that she had sent it to our local DMV, to then find out 2 months later this wasn't done and I would have to go pay an additional fee to my local DMV is more then reason enough to not use this dealer ever again. Towed 2002 jeep to lums, 3-4 weeks later told it was ready, drove to meglar bridge + broke down,towed back and jeep never was fixed after 1200.00 bill !!! Been trying to purchase a vehicle for awhile from here, and finally they call me with the truck I want. Back and forth with two salesmen, and finally send all my info. They replied that they were taking "my truck" to get it prepped for pick up. Then they come back and claim that there are a few people with appointments for this vehicle, they will not honor my rewards program for it, but I can buy it right now full price if i wanted to. But, what about those other people who have appointments? And what about the days of conversations, telling me you would let me know when there was a vehicle I could come buy with my program? You didnt say anything about not honoring this when we talked for over a week about a truck, and now all of a sudden it comes down to it and you wont honor it. This dealership is terrible and they will take advantage of you. The salesman had heard that my dad died of cancer, and knew that we had "no man" and didn't know much about cars. My mom is a widow and an essential worker at a big grocery store (This will be important later). We tried our best. I'm talking months of research, we really, honestly tried our best. But they took advantage of us regardless, the salesman knew we were weak and took advantage of it. They hid that the car was fucked up for as long as they could. This car broke down every three months, just like clockwork. It costs at least $1000 every single time it breaks down (Usually closer to $1500)! As someone who is poor, the monthly car payment was pretty much all I could handle. But they don't care, they want money. They refused to do anything about it. We told them this car keeps breaking down, even though we're bringing it TO THEM for the monthly check ups. They want us to keep paying for repairs and we just can't afford it, because they took advtange of a widow on social security. They knew that we're poor and they took advantage of it. I don't have a car because of lums, and that has forced me into a lower-paying job. Isn't that ironic? They want money for a non-functioning car that breaks down every three months, and now, I make less money because of this situation, and they just don't care. They are heartless and vile. read more

Worst service department I've ever dealt with. I've called at least 8 times to address a safety recall and have never been able to get through. They should try to call sometime to see what their customers experience. Finally used online form to request appointment. After they informed me that the mandatory recall parts were being rationed and could only be ordered once a week they set appointment. They left a message at the very end of the day before my appointment to tell me it was canceled and to call back to set new appointment. Same story; service department doesn't answer phones. They never tried reaching me again. Finally stopped by today to set appointment and was informed they gave my parts away to someone else and they need to reorder. I had a headlight out on my Subaru Outback. I bought the headlight at Napa. I tried a couple places. I finally went to Lums. I drove into the first bay and was met by a young man. I told him my problem and he said he would try to fix it. Some headlights are difficult to fix and this was one of them. This man/mechanic worked on my car for probably 30 minutes and finally got it done. I was very happy and also very impressed with this man's willingness to help me. We are full time RV travelers and were passing through Astoria when we found Lum's. We wanted to trade in our 1/2 ton truck for a larger one and we were hoping to get a decent price on both. Sales associate Chris Corcoran and I exchanged a few emails before I visited the dealership. He made himself very available and I was encouraged that we would get a good price from them. Chris worked diligently with us to find the right truck, and even had one sent over to their dealership the next day. We didn't wind up taking that one but decided on a Ram 2500. While we were waiting for side rails to arrive for it, we decided that we actually wanted a 3500. Contacted Chris who got right back to us and reassured us that they would work with us to figure it all out. We returned to the dealership the next day and explored which truck would be the right one for us. We reviewed several, both on their lot and online and found the perfect one. Chris carefully reviewed the specs with us to make sure it was exactly what we wanted and had it sent over the next day. He arranged to have side rails installed and told us he would text us when it was ready for pick up. True to his word, we got a text today saying the truck was all ready. We drove to the dealership and exchanged our Tundra for their Ram, went over all the features of the truck (Chris even set up our Bluetooth) and we were on our way. We dealt with various people at this dealership over the course of this sale and everyone was pleasant and helpful. It was a very surprising and refreshing experience to be treated with such respect and appreciation. Lum's aim is to not only make a sale but to make sure you are 100 percent happy with your purchase. That right there sets them apart from all the other dealerships I've dealt with in my lifetime.
