LuMi dining has been on our hit list for a while now. Occupying a spot where all the boats moor near Star City, it has a pleasant outlook. We were there in the evening, it was dimly lit with some perfectly placed lights above our table to highlight our food. With two chefs in action that compliment each other. An Italian Chef who has trained in Japan and a Japanese chef that has trained in Italy, making for an exciting sophisticated Japanese/Italian fusion dining experience. It is a set menu of 8 meals plus snacks for $115, which I think is reasonable considering the quality and presentation of the food, which is outstanding. For an extra charge you can add oysters or matching wines. The service was impeccable, personable and informative. The restaurant is also obliging to substitute dishes due to dietary requirements. The meal began with a few different amuse bouche; a pea and parmesan soup and a serendipitous loaf of bread which set the precedent for the meal to follow. The main courses began with a light and nicely balanced dish of Snapper with roe emulsion and fermented cucumber. Then came the Oxheart tartare with creme fraiche and sansho pepper, well seasoned and nice acidity. I felt a bit indifferent when reading this on the menu- but loved it, one of my favourites. We then had the amazing Agnolotti - porcini, rye dashi. This was an Italian pasta with a rich mushroom flavour and Japanese inspired rye dashi. There was a Tagliolini - eel, bottarga and orange. A very rich flavoursome dish as well as the Wagyu with celeriac and mustard - melt in your mouth beef with great flavour combinations. After this came the Sorrel parfait a palate cleanser in preparation for the visual spectacle to come. The star of the night was the Douglas Fir with rhubarb, raspberry and olive oil. It looked like a fried egg, but was actually ice cream with a silk and olive oil blob in the centre representing the yolk. Simple and delicate. The finale an amazing burst of flavour from a watermelon wedge infused with yuzu a Japanese citrus fruit. An incredible dining experience with a fusion of cuisine and favours that you would not usually find working together. One of our favourite restaurants of 2016. read more

Sitting proudly on the pier looking straight at the Star, LuMi certainly holds its own. With a choice of three, five and eight course menus at very reasonable prices, it's hard to say no to the curiosity. The atmosphere, food and staff are just without a word exceptional. The restaurant works like a well-oiled machine and while you're in awe of the dishes that arrived, you also feel exclusive looking out onto the water from this gorgeous restaurant. I'm looking forward to visiting more in the future, the intricacy, detail and creativity coming out of this kitchen is mindblowing. LuMi has certainly proven their own motto, that they are only confined by the walls they create. read more

Went to LuMi to celebrate a special event with my husband and was really impressed by their 8 course degustation menu. Classic Italian concepts/flavors expressed in a modern way. I loved the Squid Ink Chitarra with orange buerre blanc, bottarga, sea urchin--creamy and decadent with just enough acid to balance. Also, by far my favorite palate cleanser of all time was the one I had here. Evergreen Sorrel,Lemon Basil, Mint, Shiso, Parsley --yum, I could have a whole bowl of this anytime! Lovely dining experience with a great view, attentive staff and will accommodate any diet restrictions. read more

There are a few places in Sydney which are getting five stars from me, though for different reasons. Lumi is on Pyrmont bay and the location really is great. It's got a lot of room so you aren't squeezed together like in some restaurants (I'm looking at you, Glass). I didn't have to raise my voice too much to be heard, though there wasn't a lot of noise absorption tech in the ceiling so probably just good design or not a full restaurant at the time. The service is lovely with some very friendly wait staff, and the food is brought out to you by the chefs which seems to be a more common element to upper end establishments. The food, as you would expect, is pretty damn good. Portions are small, and the only reason I didn't feel full at the end was I hadn't had dessert (though a short trip to Messina fixed that). Highly recommend for a once a year sort of experience. read more

After reading great reviews about Lumi Dining and after informing my partner this is where I wanted to celebrate my birthday dinner, my partner on a weeknight last week (on loudspeaker and infront of me) called around 7pm to make a booking for my birthday last night. He was greeted by a female (who I believe was Isabella) then confirmed and took my partner's booking down for last night at 7pm for a nice area. She took his credit card details and informed him that no charges were to be made on the card unless we cancel within a certain period of time and informed him that the booking was made and that we would be contacted a day prior to confirm the booking. An hour before the dinner last night at 6pm. My partner calls decides to call to double check as he was concerned about not receiving a confirmation yesterday. We were incredibly shocked to find out that no booking was taken down and only to find out an hour before the dinner! What made it even worse is that both the receptionist Isabela and the venue manager (whose name I believe was Jacquard) constantly gave us attitude and kept acting like we were lying about making a booking! How can you treat your potential customers like that! After being interrogated and practically made out like we were liars. The venue manager reluctantly stated that the only thing we could do was to be squeezed in at 8.30pm next to a large group. We decided not to go ahead because of how poorly we were treated and due to how late they pushed us back for. I'm now furious to say that my birthday night was essentially ruined because of the incompetence of the individual that took our details down and due to the rudeness of Isabella and the manager Jacquard for implying in the first place that we were lying about making a booking. After being so excited to try Lumi dining and after making arrangements in advance just to spend my birthday there I am now officially disappointed at the horrible service and will be telling all of my family and friends how poor the service is. Now what concerns us is where my partner's credit card details are. If there are unauthorised charges on the credit card - we will know where to look first. This is the most appalling service we have ever encountered. 2 hours after the ordeal (8pm) we received a call from a different manager/owner, who told us they actually had us booked in but the person who booked us in booked the reservation another a different first name with the same surname. The other manager realised this when their 7pm booking didn't show (which was meant to be us) and when they cross checked the mobile number and surname we gave in the initial phone conversation at 6pm today to the booking made. Which should have been done from the start of the phone call at 6pm by the male venue manager, jacquard. Instead the venue manager decides to give me attitude and accuse me of lying about making our booking!!! The other manager then tells us to come back and to apologise for the issue offers a measly bottle of champagne!!!! After ruining my birthday and having staff insult both myself and my partner, asking us to come back in later and just offering champagne is an even bigger insult! Horrible experience without even visiting! read more

I don't often award the high fives, so when I do, you know it's worthy. LuMi has all the elements: Location - waterside with exceptional views of the city and north Sydney. Accessibility - a short jaunty stroll across the road from Star City where there is ample parking. No cab driver can be confounded when you ask him to take you to S.C. Plus, the light rail is another option. Ambience - slick, sexily lit at night by dozens of soft incandescent globes, plain furnishings that do not distract from the views; of your date, the sparkle of the surrounds or the artwork on your plates. Service - top notch, attentive without being intrusive. The price - suitable for the sheer quality and effort put in to bring you un petit mort at each bite. The drinks list - varied, interesting, terrific selection of wines by the glass and a pleasing cocktail list. You can take the option of matching wines with the degu for an extra $80. The food - where do I start? We enjoyed the evening degustation which was listed as 8 small courses, but was actually 11 tantalising dishes. The one I vote as most outstanding was the agnolotti. Silky, whisper thin bundles of hand made pasta, with a delicate porcini mushroom filling. Each bundle was a taste sensation explosion of pleasure. (Tip: put it in your mouth for 10 secs then use your tongue to push it towards the roof of your mouth for best effect). Wow. Degu $105 per head. This place is perfect for any number of the more intimate dining events such as date night, a quiet birthday celebration, anniversary with your beloved or just because you deserve it. Not really suited for group affairs over six people, I'd suggest. read more

Beautiful restaurant located on the harbour in Pyrmont. The atmosphere is relaxed and open and the waiters are very attentive. Its not a super posh place but still very slick. The presentation of the dishes was clean and nice and the flavours were beautiful and fitting. Bossman Chef Frederico is so friendly! My favourites are the Lamb - red miso - heirloom carrot - lime kosho and the Agnolotti - mushroom - parsnip. read more

Visited Lumi during our short stay in Sydney. Ordered the 8 course degustation menu with paired wines. Quiet, picturesque location compared to our accommodations in the CBD. Enjoyed the modern, industrial interior. Food highlighted by the porcini, rye dashi agnolotti - hand rolled and feathery light. We enjoyed the wagyu as much as much as any beef we've ordered. Loved the flavors of the Douglas Fir ice cream with rhubarb and EVOO. Excellent wine pairings coupled with knowledgeable and endearing descriptions from the sommelier. Only reason I give this four stars is the three star service from our server. I would enthusiastically return to Lumi! read more
