I had a very disappointing experience with Starcrest Escrow regarding a $250 cancellation fee…read morecharged at the end of a transaction. I disputed the fee because Starcrest was unable to identify where the cancellation fee had been disclosed and agreed to in the manner required by California Financial Code §17421.5. I raised the issue directly with the escrow officer and then with management, specifically asking them to identify the applicable disclosure and authorization. Management nevertheless stood behind the charge. Rather than further delay the return of my client's deposit, my client paid the $250 fee under protest and her deposit was ultimately returned. I have since filed a formal complaint with the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI), which regulates independent escrow companies, regarding the fee and the manner in which it was disclosed and charged. My concern isn't the $250 -- it's the principle. Consumers should be able to clearly identify and understand fees they may be charged before agreeing to them. I hope Starcrest reconsiders both this charge and its practices regarding cancellation fees.

English was my second language, and it became my major road block. I suffered from lack of self-confidence and was afraid to speak up during class as I fear of being laughed at with my poor English pronunciation.  Fortunately, my English language issue was solved, since John offers real estate classes in both English and Vietnamese, which really helps me understand and catch up with all the lectures..
