Some items are being sold at double their market value, and their singles are so overpriced it's laughable. They clearly prey on people who don't know better, which is disgusting in a community that's supposed to be about passion and inclusivity. If you're looking for a friendly, fair shop to support, go literally anywhere else. This place doesn't deserve your time, money, or energy.

As I browsed the mens wear, my 9-year old Black daughter remained exceptionally well-behaved and within my eyesight. Then I heard a Fjallraven Burlington staff member ask my daughter if she were "by herself." So I walked away from browsing out into the open and asked the staff member "Sav (?)" if I could help with anything. The staff member said, "This is not a children's store. You need to keep your kid with you." The Fjallraven Burlington's staff member traumatized my daughter. No one should be treated like this. Unacceptable.

I had been thinking about buying a Fjallraven Kanken backpack (you know the one, the adorable square backpack that looks like a little kid's bag) for awhile so it was neat to see them in person and all the different colors. They also have lots of outdoor gear, other backpacks, apparel, and a sale area in the lower level. We stopped in twice during our long weekend in Burlington and the employees were really helpful and friendly, offering to show us any color of bag we could imagine and explaining some of the features of some of the products. The store is large and fully stocked with anything you need to be a cool Swedish hipster in nature! The products they sell are pretty pricey but the backpack we got is guaranteed for life and is water-resistant due to the beeswax coating. I really enjoyed checking out this shop and was impressed by the knowledge and friendliness of the staff.

I tried to explain she has two forms of arthritis. He said that's not a big deal no concern. I stated it most definitely is a huge concern and it is a big deal. Look through a bunch of clothing and I had decided we were not going to be buying sneakers that day. We're gonna wait until somebody else with more knowledge would be there and help us. I did poke my head in the back room saw two ladies sitting back there one lady who is black haired glasses on the heavier side, only describing her just so you know to avoid her... snapped at me and stated he's very knowledgeable and went about our business. Put the clothing up on the counter and another man little older came over and said did you need some help and I stated that I did because the first guy was not very helpful at all and he redid all of the evaluation of her legs, her feet to the way she walked, and so on. I explained once again she had the arthritis issues and he said we can definitely put her in the right kind of shoe. We chatted and he said she most definitely needed to be in a neutral shoe. She walked around in it, and it felt comfortable, and we purchased them and a bunch of other clothing. She started running and field hockey with these shoes on, and every day would come home complaining that our cabs were aching. Her legs were hurting. They felt like she was running with blocks on her feet. I googled the type of shoe he put her in and sure enough. It was a stability shoe. She most definitely cannot wear stability. She needed a neutral. I called the store, asking to speak to the store manager or the store owner. The person on the other end stated he was the owner. I said oh good and I explained the whole situation and he said yeah that was me. I helped you I remember you. I said will you put her in a stability issue not the neutral that you said she most definitely needed. He stated oops. I said oops that's not an option, I said you have created some more leg issues that she truly did not need. He said I said oops are you bringing them back or what? I said wow OK, yes I'm bringing them back. He said how long before you'll be here? I said I'll be there shortly. I walk into the store he spotted me, turned around, went and hid in the back room !!!! The store is quite large and we took some time to browse - I wasn't really looking for anything specific, but it's always nice to be able to see products in person. They had a good sale section. I loved the local recommendations sprinkled on chalkboards throughout the store - so helpful! I also loved that we were greeted when we came in - it's a small gesture but can really make a difference when visiting businesses and I always appreciate it.

There were tops, shorts, shirts, fleece, jackets, hats and a lot of winter gears. The store was a super clean and tidy. There was a nice sit down table in the middle of the store. We found some nice UV proof beach shirts for our daughter. I also liked a t-shirt and a winter fleece, but the size didn't fit me. So we bought the kid's t-shoes from the store. As expected the prices were on the higher end, as it's Patagonia. But the quality totally makes up for the price. The staff assisted us with fitting rooms, size queries and checkout process. They were very friendly and helpful.

I've taken classes with both Scott and Kathy, who have quite different approaches to but equally deep knowledge of Ashtanga yoga. Kathy is very chatty and very hands-on (with those who wish it), with plenty of compliments and suggestions for pose modifications for each of her students. Scott is a quieter sort, and while he frequently offers verbal amendments, doesn't do much hands-on assistance. Kathy seems more apt to encourage her students to modify a pose based on what they need, whereas Scott seems to encourage students to engage the pose as it was intended. (For example, I tend to brace my arm against my thigh during triangle: Kathy would encourage my use of triangle as a twist, wheres Scott recommended I instead brace my hand on my shin so I could reach higher with my other hand. Both totally correct approaches, it seems to me: just dependent on where you put your emphasis.) Whichever approach you prefer, you'll find excellent teaching at Yoga Vermont!

The other Ashtangis were welcoming, too, and so inspiring :) I began working with intermediate series here last fall and my practice developed so quickly thanks to Kathy, Leo, and Scott. I broke my back in a snowboarding accident only a couple months after I discovered Yoga Vermont and I really missed practicing there --- if you are looking for a studio (albeit, Ashtanga isn't for everyone, but this isn't a review for that!), this is your place.
