A solid cafe in old downtown Greenville. Boss Lady and I were waiting for the county office to re-open so we had lunch here. The joint is spacious and has random framed pictures throughout. We were seated quickly by the hostess, who took our drink orders. Another wait staff member took our food order. Both were very friendly. Boss Lady ordered their fried chicken sandwich and I their Turkey club. Both were ok, they could have used a bit more seasoning. BL had to salt her chicken, she seldom salts anything. Saw Luke's was recommended when looking for lunch on my family's road trip. Walked in and was greeted and sat right way; the server got our drink order right away too. Took a while for our order on, granted we did ask for more time a single time; throughout our meal we not once got a refill on the tea or got checked on by the server. I got the BBQ Bacon Cheese Burger, on the menu it says it comes with Jalapeño and bacon on the burger, mine had neither. Burgers are also supposed to come with Pickled Jalapeños or B&B Pickles, none of our burgers had them nor was it communicated to us by the staff. Im not sure why anyone would think it's ok to hold a baby in a diaper while touching everyone's plates before they are served but we watched this guy touching everyone's plates and switching the baby from one arm to the other while doing so. Literally, every customer's plate was touched for at least 10 minutes. The interesting thing is, the guy didn't seem to be helping, just contaminating everything before the plates were served to the customers. If this is allowed where all of the customers can see, then it begs the question, what else is happening behind the scenes? I'm always supportive of small businesses, but blatant disregard for cleanliness cannot be tolerated. We offered to pay for our meals, even though we hadn't received them and our waitress was very kind and didn't want us to pay. Went to Luke's for breakfast yesterday. Our son highly recommended it. It is in downtown Greenville. It's a neat place. We were greeted and seated right away by staff. Our server was friendly and personable. We ordered the Chilaquiles, Peepaw's Plate (3 eggs, bacon, potatoes & a biscuit) & Country Fried Steak. My husband and son were happy with their selections (Peepaw's Plate & Country Fried Streak), but I didn't like mine (Chilaquiles). It was a bit dry and I didn't find much chorizo in it. We all loved Mom's Biscuits w/ honey butter & jam. My husband had black coffee, and my son had the Strawberry Mule. I had to go next door for a Caramel Latte. Luke's doesn't have specialty coffee drinks. The restaurant was bright, clean, and lovely. The walls had exposed bricks with Texas Americana decorations. Yea Greenville!!! Great breakfast place here. (I'll be trying lunch soon.) Mom and I stopped in because we heard there was good things going on here. She had an omelette with potatoes and she said it was great! A side of peppered bacon made her a happy lady. I tried the Jim's SOS and it was fantastic. A side of cheesy grits made my day. The set up is really cute. And the waitress was very friendly and efficient. The wait time was just right for visiting. Luke's is just what downtown Greenville needs. In fact we are very excited to have this growth. We went for breakfast with our two kids and we really loved the kids menu. The PB&J is on simple Texas toast bread and peanut butter and jelly. No bells. No whistles. And if you know kids this sometimes is perfection! As it was for our 5 year old. Our 2 year old had the kids pancakes and it was very good. One suggestion, we would have rather 2-3 small pancakes instead of 1 large. It was very hard for her to navigate. Chicken and waffles were good but needed spice. Hot honey would have been really nice but the waffle flavor and chicken was very good. Make your own omelettes are simple but perfect for a diner. Everything is new inside and love the use of the buildings charm. Very Prairie Coffee esk which we love. Also use of prairie coffee for their coffee is a smart idea. Staffing needs some work, but employees are new so it's understandable. Didn't bother us but our omelette had incorrect ingredients. We were told the kids breakfasts came with a cup of fruit and they did not. We were served a pile of fries instead. The kids really enjoyed it but we had a lot of food waste since the portions were enormous for kids meals. Side of sausage was very very good. Recommended. Bathrooms are spotless! This last visit my wife and I were seated and sat for 15 minutes without any acknowledgment at all. No drink order. Nothing. The restaurant was not busy but not empty either.
