I only went here because it was close by and my insurance was accepted. Damn, was that a mistake!! My very first few visits were pleasant, at best. The hygienist(Jody or Jenn?) made my visits worth returning as she was very patient and hospitable. When she offered the "laughing gas", she ALWAYS made sure to drown me in 100% oxygen before letting me leave. I went in as a brand new patient who hasn't seen a dentist in over a decade. I got my annual bitewing x-rays, examinations, and cleaning done. I was recommended that I get a scaling done(deep clean). That went as well as I could tell. I had another examination after that to make sure that after the deep clean, no cavities/decay was exposed or noticeable. They claimed that all was well, other than some minimal decay on tooth #4. That's when I was scheduled for a tooth decay removal and filling of it. I was in and out that place no more than 8 minutes!!! And the hygienist that day gave me the laughing gas, but sure as hell didn't give me oxygen before I left, yet instead told me "Have fun! Today is Mardi Gras!". As I was getting up from the chair(which was still positioned down), I knocked the dental tool table but not hard enough to spill the tools left on there. Why was it still hovering over me, even if partially?? It should've been moved out of my way, out of my reach. Because of how shitty my last experience was, as I got home I immediately reached out to a real 5-star dental office for an emergency consultation of all the work that was done at THIS OFFICE. Before this new dentist would look at my teeth and the work that was done, they called the this office to release my charts. Whoever was working the phone at that moment was overheard by my new dentist, whispering and asking where my charts were to the background person and if my charts were ever scanned in and filed. The lady on the phone then said that because the are x-rays are on film, they couldn't fax/scan them over and that they would have to be mailed. Once I learned that, I immediately left work on my lunch break to go retrieve them in person. Upon arrival(13 minutes before their office closed) I saw 2 women from that office walking to their car, as if they knew I was coming to retrieve my x-rays and they purposely avoided me to prevent me from doing so. My dentist said screw it and didn't need their crap, old-aged tech x-ray on film, and decided to take new bitewings of my teeth free of charge. As my dentist was executing the periodontal charting of my teeth and comparing it to the charts received from THIS OFFICE, they became utterly upset and even expressed their anger along with mine! The charting done by THIS OFFICE was incorrect for about 80%. As my dentist examined my new bitewings, they noticed that there was DECAY LEFT UNDERNEATH the FILLING done by yours truly(Dr. Luke). That just made them more angry. Also that there was noticeable decay on the molars to the left and surrounding teeth, which my new dentist fixed like it should've been the first time it was looked at. As I expressed my WHOLE experience to my dentist about THIS OFFICE, I asked about malpractice. They stated that there is definitely a case of malpractice here, however they wouldn't like to take that step as they would have to identify themselves to the defense and the dental association board. So, I agreed not to take further action and just forget about THIS OFFICE and WARN the surrounding neighborhood, especially if you're a PERSON OF COLOR. read more

I'm writing a review about my dentist and giving him the full 5 stars. Weird, I know!! Dr. Luke (and his entire office) deserve each and every star though. I've been going to see Dr. Luke for years, and even though I no longer live close-by, I still make the trek to his office to go see him. And when I say trek, I battle awful north-bound traffic at non-optimal times of the day and will likely be sitting in my car for longer than the appointment ends up being. It's worth it though! But, I'll do it every time and here's why: * The staff!! Everyone here is so sweet and helpful. From Patty at the front desk to each of the dental technicians to Dr. Luke himself, everyone is super friendly and smiling. * They give you laughing gas, even for cleanings. I'm a dental scaredy cat so this is a nice (but sometimes seemingly unnecessary) touch. I have it on a really low setting (1.5/10, I think) just to take the white knuckles out of the whole experience. * Dr. Luke is pretty hot. 'nuff said. * Email AND text appointment reminders. Makes it hard to "forget" about going to the dentist. I love coming here as much as anyone can love coming to the dentist. I will never forget how accommodating they were when I had to reschedule my appointment due to no fault of their own (their equipment broke with the person before me) and the dental technician offered to come in on her day off so that I could get the soonest appointment. I started going to Dr Luke when his office was in North Minneapolis...so at least 10 years. I had to take a hiatus when I went to college, but once I moved back I started going to him again! His "new" (he's been there for quite a while now) office in Brooklyn Park is very nice. All of the chairs offer a nice view of the Edinburgh Golf Course Clubhouse; the dental assistants are always kind, professional, and thorough; and Dr Luke has always been extremely pleasant and great with my teeth! The only downside I see to this office would be for those who are nervous nellies when it comes to dentistry and want complete privacy. The patient spaces are not blocked off as solo rooms; three walls only! Your back is to the open space, but if you really need a place where you'll be in a room and completely blocked off to the world, you probably won't be too comfortable there. Patients can't see you unless they're walking to/from their room; it's really just the staff. But when you have your back to them, you don't really notice that there isn't a wall behind you. The upside that might help you get past that...the gas! I get gassed every time - the teeth scrapping is like nails on chalkboard to me, and the gas helps to keep me relaxed :) read more

Dr. Luke verbally abused me and his office discriminated against me for being unemployed. I lost half of a tooth the last week of May, one that had previously had a root canal and was long overdue for a crown. My health insurance while unemployed was not going to cover my crown, so I started setting aside $1400. This is a significant amount of money for me but it was urgent to get this crown or risk losing the tooth completely. Wed. June 16. Initial visit. I explain that I am just looking for the one crown and I will be paying for it myself since it's not reimbursed by my insurance. Despite not being able to explain what the issue with insurance is, they say they need to look over my insurance/billing information and will get back to me "in a couple of days". Thu. June 17. No contact. Fri. June 18. No contact. Mon. June 21 - still no contact so I called them. They say that their office manager is on leave for the week and I will need to wait till next Monday before I can schedule. Their staff told me that businesses don't want to take on patients with my insurance because they are afraid of getting sued and this is just the way society is now. I reiterate the urgency of my situation to Dr. Luke's office and make them confirm they will call me on Monday June 28. Mon. June 28th - No contact Tue. June 29th - Still no contact. I waited until noon before reaching out to HealthPartners Member Services and they again called Dr. Luke's with me on the other line. HealthPartners cuts to my line and says that Dr. Luke's office is saying I need $14,000 worth of total dental work done. I'm not sure how this is relevant, but I explain that I only wanted the one crown before losing the tooth. HealthPartners again cuts to my line and says they have agreed to do the crown. They will need me to sign a waiver and I will pay $900 at the 1st appointment and $565 on the 2nd. I agree this works for me. HealthPartners asks me to wait 30 minutes before contacting Dr. Luke's while they work out the details. 1:10 pm I called and spoke to the office manager about scheduling my crown. She first tells me that they didn't know I had HealthPartners insurance and they aren't currently taking new patients on HealthPartners. I asked what this had to do with HealthPartners since we were not going through them. She then tells me that maybe they aren't the best choice for me because if I go through them I would have to get the full service including cleaning, x-rays, and consultations before I can get the crown worked on and the first opening wasn't until July 12... At this point I had lost my will to fight. I said if going through all those services is what you think is best for my tooth, let's schedule the first appointment for July 12th. She excuses herself and returns to tell me Dr. Luke remembers me and I can come in tomorrow, June 30th at 12:30 pm. Wed. June 30 - 12:30 pm. The office manager seated me and I asked to speak to Dr. Luke about my concerns. When he arrived I asked why it took two weeks to get treatment and why his office tried everything they could to get me to schedule elsewhere. I said I've never felt more unwelcome at a Dr.'s office before. Dr. Luke tried to interrupt, I politely requested for him to let me finish, to which he then yelled at me! I was stunned... I've never had a Dr. verbally abuse me before. I wanted to leave but I didn't have any power here. I had gone through so much to get here; I wasn't going to start over somewhere else. They made me wait two weeks before helping me and now he couldn't take two minutes to listen to my concerns? I was silent for about 5-10 seconds and then asked if I could finish. Dr. Luke aggressively rolled his eyes. This entire visit was extremely traumatic for me. It's one thing to feel unwelcome, but to be verbally abused was unacceptable. I was near panic attack levels of anxiety and didn't have the option of taking my business elsewhere. If your reaction to a patient expressing his concerns is to yell at them, maybe you aren't meant to be a doctor. I have to note that the office manager was wearing flip-flops while working on patients. I've never seen that before. read more

I've been going to Dr. Luke since 2005 when he was located in north Minneapolis and would not consider going anywhere else. I've got friends who complain about their dentists who have to refer them out to other dentists for more complicated work. Not so with Dr. Luke. He can do anything. I started seeing him when I had a dental emergency with a broken tooth. He saw me right away and fixed it, no problem. He also did a root canal for me later on, which was virtually painless, and put in a bridge. Whatever needs to be done, Dr. Luke can do it. Dr. Luke is extremely personable, his staff is friendly, and everybody is top-notch in what they do. I could not be more pleased with having found Dr. Luke to be my dentist. Gary read more

I recently visited Dr. Luke to get my front teeth crowned and they did an excellent job. Very professional and nice. They also made 100% that my crowns matched my adjacent teeth. After a few tries they got them perfect and I couldn't be happier! I would highly recommend visiting Dr. Luke for any standard dentistry or cosmetic dentistry. They will not let you leave unless your 100% happy with any work you have had done. A+++. read more
