However, just this week, I was informed by my Dental Insurance Plan (Delta Dental) that this provider had chosen to go "off network" on February 10, 2024, and they did not inform me as a customer/patient. To me this is a very disappointing customer service issue. They should call each and every one of their customers that this impacts financially and let them know in advance of this impact. They did not do that. Hence, I am considering moving to another dentist because of this oversight. When I called to discuss, the office manager was quite rude in her explanation of this change. Again, a very poor attitude with a current customer/patient. I expect much more beyond the actual dental services.

I have been traumatized by an oral surgeon for my youngest son, and inappropriately touched sexually by another dentist years later. I've been working with my therapist to overcome my PTSD dental trauma. Today, before my appointment, I used guided imagery, EMDR, positive talk, and requested I be told everything before he did it. Despite all that, I was still very anxious & shed a few tears when in the chair to which he replied he could not work on me & perhaps I needed meds, and reschedule my appointment. I told him to go ahead & I was able to relax & calm myself down, which I suspect was due to the sunglasses I was given so I could close my eyes while he worked. The staff at Northpointe is amazing but I feel that Dr Craig needs to be a lot more understanding especially with traumatized dental patients like myself. Right after he completed his exam & filling of my 2 chipped teeth, he left barely saying anything to me. I felt his behavior bordered on rudeness & that he truly doesn't have comprehension or 100% compassion between a regular anxious patient which comprises most dental patients & traumatized dental patients like myself. The dental tech was very compassionate & calming. I return next Monday for part 2 of filling cracked teeth before having a fitting for a sleep appliance for my mild sleep apnea. The nice thing about New Brighton Family Dentistry is that they offer a package for customers who don't have insurance, which I really appreciated. I think I saved an overall $200 dollars on my visit! During this visit the staff were amazing and so patient with me: the women to run the reception area, the dental hygienist that cleaned my teeth, the radiologist who took X-rays, and finally, Dr. Grayson! During that visit they ended up fining a cavity and wrote me up a treatment plan with all costs included. This was great because it helped me to plan in advance for the procedures. Dr. Grayson was very gentle when administering the novacaine and drilling on my teeth! Another thing that I liked was how they use a tooth colored filling! In addition, I've always been interested in getting Invisalign, and Dr. Grayson was willing to sit down with me and talk about ALL of my concerns. Overall, I love this clinic. I've had more horrifying experiences than pleasant ones at the dentist, which include some pretty suspect procedures involving root canals and my wisdom teeth. So horrible, in fact, that I suspect that the previous dentists I've had probably have their licenses revoked by now, if they're not already in prison for incompetence and cruelty. Dr. Gorman and his staff have always been very understanding and have catered to my mistrust from bad experiences, and he's extremely knowledgable when it comes to recommendations on what you actually need. These guys will genuinely do what's best for you and your health, and that type of focus on the patient is hard to come by. Also a big plus for giving me personalized advice on preventative care. I'm finally on a daily floss/brush/mouthwash regimen that actually works for me and keeps my mouth clean and healthy. One more big plus because he's a big baseball guy, allowing me to have a friendly heated debate about something that isn't just about my teeth.

Despite this, my entire half day was wasted before they completed my cleaning. Six months later, I returned for my scheduled appointment only to be told I had to complete the same small X-rays or "take my business somewhere else." although they already completed panoramic X-rays. They wasted my time at both appointments, as if I didn't have work or other responsibilities. The lack of professionalism, communication, and compassion was extremely disappointing.

I left my last dentist because she does not accept Medicare Advantage. I do have gum disease, however, my pockets have been holding steady at 5's for the last 20 years. Is it a coincidence that within one year of seeing this hygienist, my pockets have all of the sudden increased to 7's? I guess I'll never know the answer to that. My last appointment with them was for a cleaning in October of 2024. During this appointment Yer Lee (the hygienist), pierced my lower lip with her dental tools. It took approximately 1 1/2 weeks for the swelling to go down. Her reaction to the piercing was: "It's ok". My reaction: "No it's NOT OK". She also smeared fluoride all over my teeth (even though in my last appointment, I specifically stated that I don't want that treatment. After researching it, I found that the ADA states " Fluoride must be ingested, topical fluoride is ineffective". Plus, I have a bridge for my upper 6 teeth (i.e. they are fake teeth). Yer Lee is obviously not smart enough to realize that fluoride, even if the ADA had thought that it was effective, can NOT be absorbed by fake teeth. When I called to cancel my next appointment and ask that my dental records be sent to my new dentist, the office staff wasn't even curious as to WHY I was leaving their facility for another. Her attitude was almost as if they get lots of these requests.
