Since this was during the covid pandemic, I was allowed to go in only for the initial consultation and for her first infusion. They have a great covid protocol in place, so we never felt nervous about her visits. During the initial consult, Dr. Reese spent a long time with us, explaining in detail about the cancer and about what to expect during the treatments. He drew pictures and wrote key words on some sheets of paper we were able to take home and study. We felt he really cared about her outcome. They have a web portal for communication that allowed us to submit questions and usually had Dr. Reese or a staff member get back to us that same day. They were also great at working through insurance issues with us. We never felt overlooked or ignored, and my wife said all of the front office staff and nurses were kind and helpful. Unlike restaurant reviews where you end it by saying "I can't wait to come back!", well, I'll say we do feel comfortable continuing to see Dr. Reese for follow-ups, and should a similar need arise in the future, UCLA Health And Dr. Reese will likely be the first place we ask for!

I've never met a doctor more thorough, honest, and patient than Dr. Nguyen. She really cares about…read moreeach of her patients and my mom has one-hundred percent confidence in her abilities and recommendations. Dr. Nguyen only deals with breast cancer patients--that is her specialty. Plus, I liked her name from the start--I felt, maybe we can "win" this battle with Dr. Nguyen. Eighteen months ago, my mom was diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer (it metastasized to her liver and spine) and she chose Dr. Nguyen (pronounced "win") as her oncologist. When you are diagnosed with cancer, choosing your oncologist is probably the most important decision you will make. Your oncologist will be with you every step of your battle and recovery. After meeting with Dr. Nguyen, my mom was certain she made the right choice. When you choose Dr. Nguyen, you get her, plus an entire team of specialists that regularly meet to discuss your progress. You couldn't dream up more compassionate and caring ladies at the front desk--Kristi, Cecile and Hannah. They always have time for you, and put their patients first. My mom raves about nurse Cindy. Many people have trouble accessing my mom's port--but Cindy does it right every time. When you are getting stuck with needles on a regular basis--making it a pain-free experience becomes more important than you think. There are so many intense emotions that are connected the word "cancer", that patients (and family members) often end up asking the same question ten times. You are often so overcome with emotions that you don't hear the answer--even the 7th time. Or, maybe you just want a different answer. Dr. Nguyen has spent hours (literally) answering questions from my family. We have her cell number, and we feel comfortable calling her directly. When my mom had to be hospitalized at one point, Dr. Nguyen came to visit her--not because she had to, but because she cared. Sadly, I know many people that have had to undergo chemotherapy--but no one has created the incredible support network that Dr. Nguyen has created in her office. Dr. Nguyen's gives chemo treatments to all her patients on Fridays. Many women get chemo every three weeks, but my mom got her chemo every week. Often there are ten (or more) women of all ages (30s to 70s) receiving their chemo together. When you walk into the room, there are soft pink reclining chairs formed in a circle. Each woman shares their own story (while getting their IV "cocktail"), and each story broke my heart. It is chemo and "group therapy" combined. Trust me--you do not want to battle cancer alone. The courage in the room is so strong, it is palpable. Some women share and some women just listen. There are so many stories with terrible beginnings and happy endings. One woman was diagnosed with cancer when she was pregnant with twins. She decided to have her babies and then start her chemotherapy treatment. Currently under Dr. Nguyen's care, she is now the mother of two healthy babies and she's fighting cancer one day at a time. Just when you think your own story is unbearable--you hear the heart-breaking plights of others. It makes you want to hug everyone in the room. Each Friday, the women bring in snacks to share while they are getting their cancer treatment. It is almost like a potluck. The relatives (daughters, sons, husbands & friends) serve the women getting chemo. It is an amazing support network--with women opening up their hearts and sharing their personal stories. If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with breast cancer--don't read the statistics on the internet. Eat healthy, breathe deep, go for walks, and go to Dr. Nguyen. Thank you, Dr. Nguyen for saving my mom's life and caring for my mom in such a loving, professional and personal way. Our family owes you in ways we can never repay.

I am writing to formally express my concerns regarding the treatment I received during my recent…read moreoncology appointment with Dr. Sachdev on 11-27-2024. I left the appointment feeling dismissed, disrespected, and uncertain about the level of care I was receiving. I would like to detail the specific issues that led to my dissatisfaction and loss of confidence in Dr. Sachdev's ability to provide compassionate and competent care. 1. Lack of Compassion and Dismissive Attitude I felt that my diagnosis of breast cancer was treated as a minor or insignificant issue. While I understand that Dr. Sachdev deals with cancer cases daily, her bedside manner lacked the empathy and compassion I expected during such a challenging and emotional time. For example, when I expressed my fear about incomplete imaging and the possibility of undetected cancer, her responses did not provide reassurance or understanding. 2. Miscommunication and Gaslighting During our conversation, I expressed concern that only one specific area of my left breast had been imaged via ultrasound. Dr. Sachdev insisted that the entire breast was imaged, but later that evening, the nurse practitioner confirmed that only the specific spot where the tumor is located was examined. This inconsistency left me feeling unheard and invalidated. 3. Inadequate Breast Exam Dr. Sachdev's breast exam did not inspire confidence. She was unable to locate the lump in my left breast until I pointed it out, which raised concerns about her ability to detect abnormalities during the exam. This made me question the accuracy of her assessment of my right breast and whether any potential issues could have been overlooked. 4. Dismissiveness of Claustrophobia and MRI Challenges I was unable to complete my breast MRI due to severe claustrophobia, despite making two attempts. When I brought this up, Dr. Sachdev dismissed my concerns and claimed she had never heard of patients being sedated for MRIs. This contradicts the information provided by the breast center's pamphlet and imaging center staff, who stated that approximately 10% of claustrophobic patients require sedation. The nurse practitioner later confirmed that referrals for sedation have been made in the past, but this option was not considered during my appointment. 5. Lack of Comprehensive Imaging Given that my cancer was not detected through mammograms but was identified only after I felt a lump and requested an ultrasound and biopsy, I am deeply concerned that I have not received sufficient imaging to ensure that cancer is not present in other areas, including my right breast or lymph nodes. When I voiced this concern, Dr. Sachdev's assurance that "cancer cannot jump from the left breast to the right breast" felt dismissive rather than thorough. Steps I Have Taken Due to these experiences, I have requested my primary care physician to refer me to another oncology center. However, I feel it is important to address these issues to ensure no other patients feel dismissed, invalidated, or inadequately cared for.

To paraphrase a lot of reviews on this website, "If I could give a 10 star rating, I would."…read more In the last couple of decades of my life I've learned to truly appreciate the difference between competent/professional medical teams and medical offices of "staffers" who probably would not have been hired at a Walmart. Sadly, the latter comprise 95% of the medical staffs you will encounter in America today, aka apathetic twenty-something minions preoccupied with their cellphones rather than the human patient standing directly in front of them (and the source of their paychecks). In complete contrast to this sad norm is the entire team lead by Dr. Ken Tokita at KSK Cancer Center of Irvine. I have never had the pleasure of dealing with such a caring, professional, and friendly medical staff as I did there. They honestly make you feel like family rather than an intrusion on their time. How refreshing is that? Dr. Tokita has been a pioneer over decades in the field of radiation therapy for cancer treatment. His knowledge base could easily be intimidating to patients [I'm looking at you, other doctors] but he's a soft-spoken guy with a sense of humor who could put a Tasmanian devil at ease. The office runs like a Japanese bullet train: state-of-the-art, efficient, spotless, comfortable, and welcoming. In more than 50 appointments there I NEVER once had to wait past my scheduled appointment time. [Seriously. That last sentence is not a typo.] On at least two occassions I heard about a "state-of-the art" cancer radiation study on the radio on my way to this office. Each time even the technicians at KSK were already well aware of these particular "ground breaking" studies and knew enough to spin saucers around them. I was impressed. If there was ever any lack of cohesiveness amongst this staff regarding my treatment, I never had a slightest whiff of it. Whether I will survive my cancer, apparently that's determined by someone much higher up the food chain than me or anyone in this office. But Dr. Tokita cites a general 96% rate for guys like me. So contrary to my basic nature, I believe him and I trust him.

She made sure I was being taken care of by a Great Surgeon, and a very good RadiationOncologist Within six months my tumor was gone and I was able to have my surgery . All was well until Covid started spreading very quickly. One day i got a call from Dr Quan telling me that she was leaving the group for Personal reasons . I was sad but she told me she would leave me with Dr. Luke Chen. For the first year or so I did not see him in person due to Covid. I talked to him through Facetime. Luckily I was doing well. I finally got to see him and he was very cold and business like. I tried to deal with that, but I never had much faith in him.. I saw his PA and she was very good, but I knew I would have to stay with Dr Chen. Sometime in 2021 All of Pacific Shores was acquired by City of Hope. When I went to see him be acted strange and when I asked him if I was going to stay with the group. He just said he didn't know. He was very upset and so was I . I finally got a letter from My insurance and they said City of Hope was not going to contract with our Medical Group. We were given other Oncologists that we were go to. Again I was upset, at the last minute we were able to stay. That lasted another year or so and we were asked to leave again. This was very upsetting. Dr Chen didn't even let me know himself. I called the office staff and they were confused too about this change, but we're very kind about getting my records. I was very lucky because the group I transferred to is excellent. And so is My Doctor. I would never refer anyone to this group or Dr Luke Chen. He may be smart but he has no bedside manner.
