I have been seeing Dr. Matos for roughly 4 years now. I am also a Mast cell activation disorder…read morepatient and during this time I have had alot of issues as most mast cell people do, which understandably would have tested any doctor's patience. However, under his care, although I still have issues I am most definitely slowly but surely getting better. My last issue was a medication reaction that other doctors had put me on for another diagnosis; Trigeminal Neuralgia. The med that they put me on is well known, especially by pharmacists, who warned me every time I picked up my script to have the potential to speed up the liver thus lowering plasma levels of many other drugs and throwing those unlucky people into withdrawal. Well, unfortunately, that began happening to me and I am also adrenally insufficient and it was draining my hydrocortisone among other meds to such an extent that is was throwing into regular adrenal crisis. Dr Matos was the ONLY doctor that took an honest look at my journals detailing this reaction and understood its potential implications. He is the only doctor I have ever seen that will listen and is even eager to learn something new from his patients whether they are 5 years old to 95 years old! The wait may be longer but this is due to the fact that Dr. Matos was lead to go somewhat more solo as his revolutionary way of listening and taking as much time with clients was completely devalued in other mainstream institutions. He also is willing to hire people, may times single mothers who are also struggling with MCAS and might need an understanding boss if perhaps some days they may not be able to make it in for health reasons, so some days he has to do it all. Bottom line, this is a caring and empathetic doctor who is also extremely knowledgable not just about MCAS but about allergy/immunology and many other aspects of healthcare. And he is also most definitely an out of the box thinker. I truly believe he has saved during what has been one of the most difficult times of my life. And I am not the only one to say this, I know of another woman who drives from Florida to see him. Id follow Dr Matos anywhere as well, I shiver to think what things may have been like for me the past few years had I not found him. So for that thankyou Dr Matos for everything you are doing for Mast Cell and allergy patients everywhere.

Never in my life have I been to such an unorganized and rude office. I would NEVER trust them to…read moregive me allergy shots! They let my venom run out and then charged me for new venom. They were supposed to call me when it arrived. Never heard from them. Made an appointment with the doctor because they refused to let me talk to him by phone. Doctor said the venom was there but it was too late for me to continue the shots without starting over. I decided to stop the shots. I went to the Waynesboro office for many years and then they abruptly moved to the main office in Charlottesville. Totally different experience. The doctor was supposed to get them to take the charge off. Never happened!

Terrible experience. I waited three months for an appointment to get into this specialty allergy…read moreclinic. I was told by the secretary I would need to stop taking certain medications a week prior to my appointment for full allergy testing and they would send me a list of the medications I would need to stop to my home address. The list never arrived. After four calls to the office and no return calls, I stopped all of my meds abruptly out of fear they may interfere with my testing. When I got there the physician listened to my lungs, patted me on my shoulder, said everything is going to be okay, and sent me on my way. No blood tests, no poke tests, no information, no recipes, no nothing. For reference, I have newly diagnosed alpha gal syndrome, a tick borne illness that makes me anaphylactic-ly allergic to beef, pork, lamb, dairy, butter, carrageenan, gelatin (including medication gel tabs), and natural flavors. I now have to carry around an epi pen that the urgent care provider who diagnosed me prescribed. I also have had abrupt cardiac symptoms with the new diagnosis...hypertension and tachycardia for which I now need to take cardiac medications. Keep in mind my heart rate and blood pressure were fine up until this diagnosis and I am a heathy woman in her 30's with no medical history. My sustained tachycardia put me in the emergency room and almost admitted me to the hospital because it would not go below 110 beats per minute at rest. Dr. Dillon told me it was just stress. She then said to continue avoiding what I was avoiding and she would see me in nine months. Her nurse literally told me to Google my diagnosis for more information, even though there is not a lot of information out there on it. No recipes, no printed info, nothing. I should have wasted my money on a massage. At least I wouldn't have waited three months for absolutely nothing and felt better about it afterwards. Their online paperwork is also a debacle. It takes forever and it is filled with ads and research pitches. This sounds like a small office was taken over by a large money making business venture and the patient is not the center of the practice's efforts. I am going to save the money and ask my primary care physician to retest me periodically. There was literally no reason why the urgent care should have referred me to this place. Save your money and your time.
