Stuffed pizza? On the East Coast? That's usually a Chicago thing....but sure enough Luigi's does an interesting East Coast take on it. It's a fairly thin crust with toppings on the bottom under the cheese. We went with a Stuffed Combo Pizza, which is pepperoni, sausage, ricotta, onions, mozzarella, and romano cheese. Broccoli was supposed to come on it, but come on....broccoli on a pizza? I think not...Pass. We got a side of excellent red sauce to dip the pizza in, which was great, because I'm not sure there is tomato sauce actually on the pizza. If so, it was very little. With pepperoni and sausage, there is enough tasty oil coming from those meats, so wasn't dry without any sauce. I liked how each ingredient was thinly sliced so the pizza didn't get thicker than an inch. Thus it still is in the thin crust family and not deep dish. 5 stars https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/luigis-famous-pizza-little-silver-2?select=HP3WCaU4Tl5abOYclIUasA
We also ordered a basic pizza half pepperoni and half sausage. Here the sausage was crumbled rather than sliced, but still was pretty tasty. They really have good pizza sauce here, and the mozzarella was golden brown. The crust for both of these pizzas are made with top notch dough. I'm sure you Jersey people take it for granted, but come out to Southern California and order some pizza, you'll be shocked for what passes as pizza dough out here. 4 stars https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/luigis-famous-pizza-little-silver-2?select=DYLHdSYWKzYLINEjTyNlZQ
So my brother, having been here before, quickly ushers me off to the side to sit down at a table to order, hiding how they make their pizza. As we leave, he shows me the open kitchen. Expecting to see the traditional Steel Pizza Deck oven, I'm shocked. They are spitting these tasty pies out with a Conveyor belt pizza oven. The kind you would see at most fast food chains. If I had seen that on the way in, I might have left, assuming I wouldn't get a good pizza here. But once again this proves, it's always about the ingredients.
Plenty of hot fresh bread was brought to the table while we waited. They don't mess around here with the quantity of bread, that's for sure. I'm guessing that sub sandwiches would be good here. We also did get to sample a very good Shrimp Scampi with a nice garlic sauce to dip the bread in. 4 stars. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/luigis-famous-pizza-little-silver-2?select=s8HsCDeEVK75r-8rodaDOQ
I'm going to round my 4.5 star review up to 5, just because the current 3.5 is too low. Luigi's is pretty darn good and very reasonably priced as well. read more
