Watching the sun come up over the mountains and stream through all the beautiful windows has been a highlight of the trip. The suite is large and very comfortable. The owners have done a wonderful job of blending the quaint historical elements with modern comforts. This place used to be a brothel way back in the day. It's not even a block from the SeaLife Center and right by lots of shops. Looking forward to just walking downstairs for breakfast at the Sea Bean Cafe.

A great spot to land for a few days in Seward!…read more The location was fantastic. Sauerdough Lodging is a historic building in the heart of Seward. It's near several restaurants and shops, including the coffee shop downstairs, and the waterfront. Since it isn't located in the part of Seward that is crowded by the cruise ship folks, street parking is free unlike elsewhere. Our suite, Wilderness Room #3, was spacious and clean with lots of natural light and the historical details and decor were charming. After spending our days out hiking, we really appreciated the comfortable king bed and cozy bedding. The kitchen came in handy a few times for making meals to take with us on outings and I imagine this would be helpful for families, too. Oh, and the Sea Bean coffee was a great touch! If I could make one small suggestion for the room, I would have liked a curtain on the bathroom window for added privacy. I'd happily stay here again if I returned to the Kenai Peninsula. I think it's a good value for the accommodations.

Ok, Im with Andrew in this one and we don't agree on much. Don't come here unless you have to. We…read moredrove to Seward on a whim and figured we would stay at Harbor 360 where we always stay. Mistake... there was a tourist surge this weekend and they were full and they recommend we go to their sister hotel Gateway. I've been curious about this place since it was built recently. We got the last room. And let me tell you, what a sham. It charges the same fkng rates as Harbor 360 but is only a shadow of her. The rooms a clean and well kept and beds are comfy, but not worth the EXHORBITANT PRICES. For the same price I could be at Harbor with a pool, work out room, dock front view of the water and mountains, adequate parking, and nicer rooms with more amenities. Sigh. I wouldn't be so annoyed if the rooms were cheaper. Because the room is fine. But the fact that they charge the same price for something that offers significantly less services makes no sense. There isn't even enough parking here. There's no dresser for your clothing. The internet is slow as a slug. The water is blocks away. The microwave is on the 2nd floor (???? SO handy when im naked). Yeah, this set up is not worth 400 bucks during high season. Im glad im here during May and I got a local rate or I'd be IRATE.

We spent one full day on the water doing a glacier and wildlife tour with Major Marine and another hiking in the park which were both unforgettable experiences. The hotel was clean, quiet, and super convenient to everything in Seward. The room was comfortable, and after long days out in nature, it was exactly what we needed to relax and recharge. Breakfast was simple but tasty, with enough options to start the day off right. This isn't a luxury stay, but it's a solid, no-frills option that we'd absolutely recommend to anyone looking to explore the beauty of Seward and Kenai Fjords.

If you are looking for a nice place to stay in Seward, AK, THIS is the place! Soo's B&B is lovely!…read more Cleanliness is off the charts great (yet it still feels like your home to spread out & use the facilities). The rooms are spacious and well-kept. She has 2 facilities: The main house (the A-Framed one) and the "cottages" across the street. My niece and I stayed in the main while my sister and her hubby stayed in one of the cottages. The cottages boast a full kitchen, with fridge, stove, sinks, microwave and even a stacked washer & dryer. Also being separate from the main house, if you're having a long stay, this would be ideal as you won't disturb anyone with comings & goings. There appeared to be 3 of these cottages. In the main, there are 5 bedrooms, ALL with private bathrooms! :) Soo makes a terrific breakfast that's included... forget those scrawny little donuts or cold cereals you'll see at a hotel. She made us scrambled eggs, sausage, muffins, home-made blueberry compote and fresh squeezed orange juice! I'm tellin' ya... it's a great way to start the day! She also knows the local area & can tell you about discounts and things to see. When we arrived, she showed us the code to get in, the etiquette (removing shoes- great cleanliness idea in Alaska), and showed us around her beautiful home. Soo also used to live in Anchorage, where my sister still lives and I used to, and owned a sewing shop. When we arrived, and my sister made the connection, and I off-handed asked if she could re-attach the handles on my favorite tote. I didn't really expect a yes...but she said YES! The next morning at breakfast, there was my repaired tote on the chair in the dining room. She refused any compensation, but I will be forever grateful. Soo is kind, gracious and staying at her home is FABULOUS!

DISABLED / MOBILITY ISSUE TRAVELERS BEWARE!…read more This hotel does not care about you! I am on a 100 day tour around Alaska and Canada and have travelled through the south eastern islands / marine highway and Haines Junction / Tok by this point with no issue. 5 nights booking. Stated in booking I had mobility issues. Did not check until I arrived then they downgraded me to a room on the second floor via elevator. Would they come get me in an emergency? Would not have chosen this hotel if I couldn't get the advertised room. The given room only had a single handrail in the bathroom a distance from the toilet or sink. The shower was not step-free but mostly step-free. There was no rubber mat. The breakfast was very difficult to use with a walker and there was no assistance. On 3 occasions non disabled guests parked or blocked the disabled spots, raised with front desk, did nothing. On two of those occasions the lots were also full and I had to walk with my walker a significant distance in the rain. They had company vehicles blocking spots preventing me entering and others leaving and when asked if they could move temporarily I was told no. On third occurrence of disabled use/blocking informed them if I see it again I will be contacting police. Supervisor told me he was unaware of these issues which means they must have never raised or discussed them among themselves. He got sarcastic with me and told me I should call the police right now. I said it's your hotel I'm doing you a courtesy by telling you and not calling the police but I will the next time I see it. I left the hotel at this point as I simply don't know if I can park there or trust they would rescue me. DO NOT STAY HERE Attached are some photos showing these issues

I'll start, notably, with the drivers who I remember much of (forgive me if I misspell the names). John - an amazing driver with quite an amazing personality. I love how he's easily engaging with everyone who hops on the bus and have quite a good sense of humor as well. Although I haven't ridden the busses for too long, I come to realize (and appreciate) that he is very honest. I am truly hoping to see him next season. Stacy - another amazing driver with also a very amazing personality. I believe she was the very first driver whom I interacted with and immediately felt welcomed. She's very straightforward/blunt, which is great as her actions kept the service running efficiently. It's hard to imagine the service without her and I'm also hoping to see her back next season. My memory isn't the best, so I have a hard time remembering some of the other names, but I've had amazing conversations with almost all of the drivers and have enjoyed all of them. As a year-round resident, the service has been essential and I've been very grateful for it. To the owners, I truly thank you for it. You and ALL of your staff are amazing.
