Spend several thousands of dollars for two people and can't get assigned seats. Tried to reserve seats for one leg and they want $105 each for two people. What BS! Picked seats on outbound flight for $35 each and now triple that for return flight. Hope i never have to fly with these clowns again. Truly the worst customer service I have ever encountered My mom was already nervous about flying post stroke and during COVID. We thought it would be okay if we used miles and flew her business class- The Lufthansa staff were SO rude and refused to let us check in OR help us in any way shape or form. My mom was schlepping her luggage from desk to desk and kept being pushed off onto the next person until the last person tells her her flight was just closed and she could not check in. How long ago did they close the flight? I asked, "6 minutes ago" replied the agent- maybe half the time we had been shuffling from Lufthansa agent to Lufthansa agent trying to get help. We protested to get her back on her flight but they said the flight was overbooked. Very flat affect and lack of any care at all. When my mom asked for help, they yelled that they already told us the flight was closed and we had to be rebooked. They then did NOTHING to help rebook us, the business desk agent sent us to the rebooking desk - the agent there (Agnes) refused to rebook us and just kept saying we had to call Lufthansa- but of course she could not be bothered to provide us with a number or assist us. In addition to the total lack of mask enforcement among employees, Lufthansa customer service is sorely lacking! And JFK was dead- I have hardly ever seen the airport so empty. This is my first and last time ever flying Lufthansa! I thought that being a German company the experience would be stellar. Complete opposite! 1. 4 tix at $9000. Paid extra for seat assignment. Seats were changed 4 times to then have us on the 4th change to not sit together. SFO to Frankfurt to Rome. 2. SFO to Frankfurt's reassigned seats were up against a wall, 3 seat reclined one inch, 4th seat did not recline at all, for 11 hours. Remember that I paid extra to not get the seats I wanted. 3. Check in attendants were the rudest I have ever experienced. 4. Take off was delayed. The flight attendants were not friendly at all. My son asked for ice tea and the stewardess literally snapped at him, "No!" 5. Arrived in Rome after 11 hours, connected on to the next flight to then be asked to disembark due to a door issue. 6. Again, RUDE counter attendants the caused mass confusion when trying to update the passengers. Everyone stormed the counter. What they wanted was 70 volunteers to get off the flight with a 250 voucher. Because they caused so much confusion, the counter attendants started yelling and threatening all of us that if we didn't cooperate that they would just cancel the flights altogether. 7. They couldn't get 70 people, they got 50, and then started to pull the rest of the people the next flight. 8. Once that happened, we were able to board. Once seater, the captain came on and said that the counter attendants miscounted and still needed 10 people to get off so they randomly selected another 10 people. 9. I was supposed to arrive in Rome today at two but I am still seated waiting to take off because now they are questioning the load of people and where we are all seating. 10. I am BEYOND DISGUSTED WITH THIS AIRLINE. I will ever ever ever fly Lufthansa again. In my 50 years of international travel, I have never experienced such rudeness, disorganized, and horrible treatment of their passengers. First and last time. I am so disappointed in Lufthansa. I Booked tickets to fly to Ireland with my husband and my 15 month old daughter... my husband suffered a massive heart attack (the widow maker) on June 25 2025. His cardiologist said he can't fly for atleast a year. I reached out to Lufthansa to get a refund on the tickets to book for a later time they told me to submit proof of hospitalization and discharge and a letter from the cardiologist. I provided all they asked for and then they replied " Regarding your inquiry about the complete refund for passengers' medical reason. Very surprised to see all of the negative reviews here on Lufthansa Airlines. We flew to Munich from New York round-trip in Premium Economy. The airplane was very clean. There are many movies to choose from, as well as music, podcasts, games, etc. for entertainment. The flight attendants were excellent in service and answering questions. The food was good compared to other carriers. Both flights departures and arrivals were on time. The captain was courteous and kept the passengers informed. I also did seat selection at time of booking (in Premium Economy) since we will travel with a small child and need to be sure we sit together. When I called a few hours after booking to cancel the reservation, the Lufthansa agent quoted my refund amount as the full amount I'd been charged. However, I learned the next day that the refund would be less than the amount quoted by the agent--the $400+ charge for seat selections would not be refunded. There is nothing in the grace period language to call out that exception or I would not have booked or done seat selections. Today we called the Turkish embassy and they told us that the visa-free period for citizens of Kazakhstan to stay in Turkey is 90 days!!!!! Finally returned one but one is still lost and its now over 90 says so its gone from their system I emailed them, called every 4-5 days even had a friend go to the airport where the bag is at and no one has still responded to me. Amex says there is nothing they can do and it is not covered by travel insurance. Lufthansa's inability to have a service agent that can move past the computer to actually address the issue means Lufthansa has effectively stolen my, my husband's, and my 7 year old son's money. Star Alliance benefits. 5. Safety seems good given German thoroughness. 6. First Class Terminal in FRA rocks: free meals, Porsche rides to the plane, no lines to check in, clear security, etc. Cons: 1. Old business seats suck. 2. For us in particular they went out of their way to be kind and congenial to our 1 year old and gave her toys and treats throughout the flight. We got a business upgrade, so the seats for our flights to and from Frankfurt were amazing. Also, when we were heading home they had a splendid curb side check in that I could only dream about getting on a US carrier. One downside, the food was rather average. Compare to most airline lounges in US, LH lounge has one of the best food offerings. Senator section is on the upstairs and business lounge is on the ground level. Plenty of sandwiches, hot dishes, salad and sweets available. Space isn't big so it gets quite crowded when there are a few international flights scheduled next to each other. My husband and I flew home back to the US from Frankfurt right before the pandemic started and inadvertently paid for an upgrade twice. While our flight was quite comfortable and the plane was clean and we enjoyed our upgraded seats and meals, I have not been able to get a refund issued for four months. I'm an avid traveller and have flown most airlines, even in different classes. With Lufthansa, I've flown Economy, Business and even First Class. In general, this is a great airline which provides good service to their passengers regardless of where you are using them and what class you are flying. Their economy class is however very cramped and they have squeezed in as many chairs as possible in their, making the flight not all-that comfortable. Their business class is ok - also a lot of seats, but the business class seats are horrible and the incline is meeeeeh. The first class however, is amazing. If you fly out of Frankfurt, you get to experience true bliss with a dedicated terminal just for you, a-la-carte dining, exclusive spirits list all free of charge and awesome service. I was driven in a new Mercedes S-Class 2014 to my flight. The entire flight in first class was truly spectacular. Extravagant and awesome. All-in-all, an average airline if you are talking all classes. If you're talking premium classes, they are awesome and set the standard for most European and American airlines. read more

My son's luggage never arrived in Florence on his Swissair Flight. It has been over 6 weeks and they have stonewalled our request for compensation for his lost suitcase , his lost clothes and his replacement clothes for a wedding that he was a groomsman . It is a straight forward lost luggage claim (we have the baggage tracking slip that shows it never arrived in Florence ) but they have refused any compensation. They have sent us 3 e-mails that make no sense whatsoever and will never explain WHY they are refusing compensation Quite honestly I am in shock over this terrible treatment by an airline. It has been far and away the worst possible treatment imaginable. After first telling us to file a stolen claim in Zurich ( his luggage was never unloaded in Zurich) they then told us to file a stolen luggage claim in my son's home in Denver(?) How much sense does that make ? Now after a third refusal to pay any compensation they are offering arbitration! We will be seeking any and all avenues to not accept this unprofessional and unacceptable treatment of a customer whose luggage they never delivered. Lufthansa never issued my ticket after I purchased it online with Paypal. I have proof of my purchase from PayPal. After contacting Lufthansa customer service I was told that I would be reimbursed for the extra cost of the fare if I rebooked the ticket. Now they are refusing to do it. If you call customer service you will get hung up on, and if you email you will be so politely lied to and turned down for a reasonable request. I've always had an excellent experience with Lufthansa. and when traveling across the pond they are my choice carrier. I've been told BA and Virgin are nicer, but that was from people who travel in business or first most of the time. Since I am from the *cough cough* working class persuasion, this is a review of their coach class. The FAs are excellent and very friendly and hospitable for Germans in the service industry. There is much more leg room than with the US domestic carriers. Their TVs are great with tons of channels, movies, music, games and more to enjoy while traveling. The food is pretty good, though my recommendation here would be to pick the simplest item they offer (but I would recommend that no matter what airline) since airline food can really only be so good. read more

I'm must establish some form of grading criteria for flights so the results have statistical significance instead of just a general meh, or yay or whatever. That list would consist of things like how well the gate does at coordinating boarding order. For example, they start boarding at the back of the plane and someone from row 5 jumps up. When declined (which earns the airline a great score) the perp gets this incredibly rehearsed stupid look like "I don't speak English?" or "WTF, I thought you said row "5" not "35"..." Or how how much the pilot communicates with the cabin. I love it when you're in the air for 5 hours and you have two comments: "Crew take your seats, we're #1 for take off" and "Crew prepare the cabin for landing." On the other hand I really enjoy it when the pilot says something like: "We're still at the gate folks, would everyone on the right side of the aircraft go to the window on the left side and wave at the people in the terminal - we want them to think we're so good we're always full." So what if its been used 100 times - its still funny. Until I come up with that scale in my copious free time, I'll just leave it to a single factor for any given flight - and that is how much water they bring you while your in the air drying out. Last time I flew US air across the Atlantic, it was exactly 2 times - fail. (See previous US Air review). Lufthansa on the other hand, brought me liquid sustenance once per hour last night - that's right, 8 times - Lufthansa, you rock! And as a side note there were a couple of things that knocked it down from a full 5 stars but truth be told, it was probably partially the airlines fault and partially my own idiosyncrasies. Here's the deal. If you get on a plane, and you are so large you have to fold your arms together to keep from taking up 1/3 of the seat on either side of you, please either purchase 2 seats or a first class ticket. Otherwise its best not to fly at all because that's just rude - no one can hold their arms like that for 8 hours - no one. read more

That is the worst flight, I already had issue with them twice. First time they change my flight to Turkish Airlines when I supposed to fly New York, actually I was happy with Turkish Airlines. Second time happened today, because of my kids passport expired we got new, emergency passport which were issued by my country Embassy with one month length. Lufthansa agent told us that emergency passport should be 90 days length and told us we can not fly and returned. Then we asked Lufthansa Manager and explained them all situation even asked embassy person call them and explain, after an hour they said we can fly only if we show them itinerary to final destination. When we show them from phone they asked us to print it or email them. Since that picture of ticket was poor quality we asked original ticket holder to scan that again and email it but by that time we were late. Of course there also my fault that I didnt have my ticket already printed but they wasted my time first saying that I have my kids passport issue. Eventually I didnt get refund and was ready to buy new ticket but it was very expensive. And just decided not to fly at all. I flew Lufthansa from Frankfurt to Cairo and it was a horrible experience. I paid an extra fee so I could reserve a seat next to my friends. The day before my flight I was moved to a different seat in the back of the plane with no explanation. This happened to me a second time on my return flight after I paid for a seat assignment in the front. Because my seat was located in the back, I could not even recline my seat. After the flight, I asked for a refund for the fee I paid for a seat reservation and they declined my request. They said they gave me a comparable seat. I don't know how they came to that conclusion since I paid for a seat in the front next to my friends in a seat that would recline. The food was also the most disgusting thing I've ever been served. just flew first class since there were not any coach seats left. pampering is the only word i can think of. the first class team from jfk terminal lounge to frankfurt's private first class terminal , yes it is it's own terminal. spend the money for this experience!!! read more

I hadn't flown on Lufthansa or been to Europe in awhile, but I remembered they were a good airline. I recently flew to Germany and then Italy with Lufthansa. I can't say enough great things about this airline. The plane was clean and the flight attendants were wonderful. I was in coach and the food wasn't bad. They also gave us free drinks, choice of wine with dinner and after dinner cordial. I couldn't believe they offered that in Coach! What a pleasant surprise! The attendants came around with drinks, water and snacks throughout the flight and hot towels. They even asked if I wanted to move to another seat where was an empty seat so I could stretch out and have more room. They even had a good choice of movies and other shows to watch during the flight. I would definitely recommend Lufthansa. Plus their flights are very reasonably priced from NY to Europe.
