This is a cute store on Elmwood between North and Summer…read more They have fabulous fabric and things like that. All sorts of colorful patterns and types. African based. She also sells earrings that are large and colorful. Beautiful things. The owner is a charming woman. 5 stars because its just beautiful, its a "mom and pop" and there is nothing else like this in Buffalo.

I can't believe I'm the first to review this great little business, which opened in walking disance…read morethe same year I got an apartment on Elmwood near Summer(2006). I was a regular the 2+ years I lived in that location, picking up jewelry & shea butter and chatting with the super friendly owner. I just revisited it after several years away (I live in Black Rock - like anyone on Yelp doesn't know, har har, and don't get to EV much) and was excited to see that not only was it still there, it's flourishing. Ambiance/service - The store is in the back side corner of a non-descript brick building, sharing a small urban "strip mall" of sorts - with Elmwood Market (formerly DVD Dot), a laundromat and a nail place occupying the street-facing shops. It is small and has that market feel common to small, indie ethnic shops without being dingy, dirty or cramped (a la Manar's, now closed). The space is very clean and much better organized than when they first opened seven years ago. Products - The store focuses on traditional African and African-incluenced clothing and accessories, including jewelry, clothing, hats, home decor, instruments, beauty products (shea butter, black soap), scarves and even fabric to make clothes (sold by the 6 yard piece). On my most recent trip I bought a beautiful cream and aqua stone necklace with silver accents - it has a really quality heft and look, with excellent craftsmanship, and set me back less than $25; it was a small price to pay considering teeny bopper mall chain stores charge $12-20 for similar, less quality necklaces. The store also carries a small assortment of African foods and a variety of less traditional clothing that still fits with the shop's vibe. The store has expanded into the spot next to them, with this shop focusing on handbags and accessories. I did not pop in this side, though the owner offered to open it for me, but I took a long gander through the window and it looked clean, well-organized and full of goodies.

I prefer Nipply Clothing (such as a wet t-shirt or a see through top) but this stuff is great too…read more They sell clothing, perfumes and jewelry from Nepal. A few times I've been in there, they were closed, but luckily for them and my mother, they were open towards the end of her seeminly endless period of time spent bargain-hunting and culture-soaking with me at the WSB on her penultimate day in Buffalo. I bought her some make-up (although nothing like anything I've seen in Rite Aid) and an unusual shawl-type-thing which I think would be massively popular with (and look better on, sorry Mum) the hipsters if only they knew about this place. Prices are low (as with everything in WSB, perhaps since they all share a space), and it's a bit tragic that nobody ever seems to be at this stall either. Come and check it out, because they have so many crazy cool Nepalese things. You'll buy one thing from Nepal, another, and then finally a third Nepal.

Gysma's is, according to the sign, Shea Butter, Black Soaps, Oils, Clothing, Tapestries, Arts, Crafts, Jewelry and Accessories. That's a lot of sh** for one little stand to be selling. My mother wanted several things from here so I just bought her all of them. Prices are fine and the products are things I've basically never seen before in my life. The stand is South Sudanese, which is a region that is a mystery to me. I've been to other countries in that part of Africa, but not Sudan. If Sue Sarandon and Dan Akroyd ever get together, will they be known in the press as SuDan? Places like this don't get nearly enough business. Please, do the world a favour and do yourself a service. Come into the WSB, get some of the amazing food (Abyssinia or 007 maybe), a fruit drink (no milk) from Gourmet Lao, and then wander the stalls, and see what screams at you. I mean literally, lots of psychopaths hang out in here, but also product wise. I was just talking to my mother earlier today and I asked if the Shea Butter and lotions and oils and crap that I bought her here (she left a couple of them at our house, and they're still kicking around), were still going strong and were any good. "Lovelehhh!" she exclaimed in her thick Mancunian accent. Think, that girl from Frasier, that's the accent my Mum has, or should I say "me Mam." She continued: "dead lovelehhh! Aww luv, they're brilliant, aren't theh? Bloody great my darlin son!" (Yes she was drunk) (When isn't she) And remember. This is a castle. And they have many tapestries. And if I am Sudanese, bro, then you are Mickey Mouse.
