The people I trained with made it feel like family. -Kids/Jr's program was amazing! My children absolutely loved it. I watched in astonishment as my kiddos kept progressing! Looking to train? My dad has trained with Michael Proctor for a few years now. They have been trying to get me into…read morethe art ever since my dad started. Finally, when I went to college, I decided I needed a new hobby so I decided to train jiu jitsu [In the town I went to school]. When summer came along, Michael Proctor and his team took me in with open arms. Since joining his academy, I have come to find a second jiujitsu home where I am always welcome. Some specific notables for this gym? 1. The techniques are very.... technical, as they should be. Michael Proctor really does know the art. He knows how important the little details are and he instills that knowledge in our training every day. Also - a side note with Michael and his techniques: If Michael sees one person needing help on specific escapes, positions, or submissions, he will cater the class' curriculum for that person. He does this for everyone, not only his shining stars. 2. VERY CLEAN FACILITIES. Michael makes sure the mats are always clean. I wouldn't be surprised if he told me that he mops the mat multiple times after just one training session. He takes a lot of pride in the team's hygiene, emphasising the importance of handwashing, shoe-wearing, and gi-washing. 3. The energy in the room is always positive. It is not uncommon for the class to start off with a few jokes. Michael keeps it light and it makes a fun environment to train in. People feel like family when they come in because they are treated as family. I highly recommend this gym to anyone who has a bellybutton.

I've been with I love kickboxing for about 6 months before starting the #6WeekChallange. I…read moreoriginally joined the club to get ready for my military PT test. I hate running, so I had to get my cardio up. (I ended up doing really well, btw.) I'm pretty active (besides running, lol), I have been doing a lot of strength/weight training and I eat fairly healthy. I've was gaining weight (muscle mass) but not losing any body fat. So I decided to start the #6WeekChallenge to kick my butt in gear. It was definitely a challenge. Adjusting to the meal plan the first week was difficult; I was hungry about 99% of the week, but I lost 3lbs and 2% BF that week. The second week, I had no changes in my results, and I was extremely frustrated. (There were a few weeks where I didn't have any changes. ) After talking with the instructors, I adjusted my meal plan a bit to help out. By the 3rd-4th week, I still wasn't seeing the results I wanted, so I talked to some of my fitness friends for additional tips and I had to adjust my meals again. And because I wasn't eating very few carbs, I was unable to sustain my strength workout with weights, I just ended up doing a lot of body weight workouts and adding in more cardio (besides the 3-4 kickboxing classes per week). But I ended up losing 14 lbs and almost 8% body fat!! I was weak, tired, and hungry most of the 6 weeks and there were many moments I wanted to quit and just go eat a Cinnabon, but I'm glad I kept to it and am extremely proud of my results. Although, I know some of the weight I lost was muscle mass. Rather than recommending whether or not to join the club or the 6 week challenge, I'll state my pros and cons. Pros: 1. The instructors are AMAZING. They are very helpful and patient. And the push you when you THINK you can't or just don't want to do the work. 2. The other members/challengers are awesome. They are very encouraging, share tips, and are willing to be an accountability partner whenever asked. 3. Class times are accommodating, for the most part. There are classes later in the evening on most days, for those of us who work during the day. Cons: 1. The club and the challenge are really expansive, even with a military and member discount. 2. The club itself (Tacoma anyways) smells like stinky feet. (Until you get used to it.) 3. The punching bags are well used, it would be nice if they were updated. 4. Challenge specific; if you are fairly fit and don't really have the weight/body fat to lose, it's really difficult to be successful without doing additional things aside of the challenge itself.

If you're looking to increase the intensity of your workouts - this is the place! It's tough, but…read moremoves fast and you will feel it. Pros: friendly snd encouraging staff, modify things for new people, excellent full body work out Cons: high pressure sales pitch, and it's too expensive and not a flexible membership. $125/month and sign up for a year. If they had a punch card or a month to month - it would be much more doable. But if you aren't working out 3x a week every month. It's just too expensive for what you're getting. If you weren't committing to a year up front - it would be better. If they had a 10 punch card option- that would be helpful- but I also don't want to pay for 100 punches at once. They need more flexible membership types.
