we stopped off in lucca for a quick bite on our road trip through toscana. we were actually aiming for a pizza place around the corner, but it was closed, so we decided to give this place a try. the place is very small and more intended for take away than dining in. the owners were very chatty and friendly. we picked a few things out of the case which they heated up for us and we ate off paper plates at the little counter.
we tried the lasagna, a zucchini parmesan casserole, two suppli, and a lemon cream pastry. the food was all great! it tasted like a home cooked meal made from fresh ingredients and was very reasonably priced for the amount we ate. i also liked that they had a lot of vegetarian options.
if you're only visiting italy briefly and hitting up the tourist spots, you'd probably prefer a real sit down restaurant experience closer to the historic center in lucca. but if you live nearby and are too lazy to cook, this is a great place for cheap, yummy take away to bring home. =)
p.s. their website is under construction, but they have a lot of pictures of their food on fb: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Lucullo/84253113246238 read more
