We recently visited the Orchards for the first time and our family had the best time! The orchard is kid friendly with bubble machines, a tractor ride, and easy to pick fruit! My two year old had the best time, he's been talking about apple trees since we went 3 weeks ago! Thank you Chinchiolo Family for opening up your orchard for u-pick fun! We plan to make this a family tradition, we are excited to support local businesses!

We came to learn about Lucky You Orchards via Far West Cidery. We had a wonderful time picking fuji apples at the orchard! A perfect outdoor activity during this time as your group is given an entire row of apple trees, so that you can avoid close contacts with other visitors. Staffs are very friendly and the apples are delicious- definitely recommend them.

I can't express my gratitude to lucky you orchards. We came in today with my old daughter to pick apples and after getting checked in which was a super easy process, we started to walk towards the orchards. I did not realize how long of a walk it was and I have extreme sciatica and back pain so any walk more than a few hundred feet is extremely painful for me. 200 feet down the path I had to stop. I contemplated going back and just letting them go without me. Steve saw me and offered to give us a ride to our row and back to the front! Thank you Steve for ensuring that I can share this time with my daughter!

What a charming farm! Such a treat and it is the closest farm, near the east bay, to go apple picking! It was 30 dollars to picking from the farm and then the apples were additional 2 dollars a pound. They were well organized in splitting up different groups due to covid. We had a whole aisle to ourselves. We picked Pink Lady apples and the kids had fun picking them and later enjoying them. They were perfectly sweet and tart. They had a small pumpkin patch. The kids highlight was the riding the hay ride. We will definitely be back next year.

Throughout my life I've had lots of fresh apricots, and depending on the source these have ranged from bland to tart to sweet, but to make the claim that theirs was the sweetest on earth ... I knew I had to try these to believe it! Thanks to CUESA, the educational organization that runs the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market, a group of us got to visit with farmer John Driver on his 10 acre apricot orchard recently. The farm doesn't offer public tours and these CandyCots are fairly exclusive so this might have been an opportunity of a lifetime to actually visit the farm. CandyCot apricots are bred varieties, grown under the hot Central Valley heat. The fruits which are smaller in size than the standard supermarket apricot are known for their pronounced flavor described by some as "spicy" and their high sugar content. Using a Brix rating system which measures dissolved sugars CandyCot ratings measure in the 20's and 30's while standard apricots are usually in the teens. Because it was a scorching 97 degrees outside John picked out a nice covered area to do a presentation for our group (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/m0I1TLmK568I29YBnfBlmA?select=f_SZnXa0FeKMeFhqbmA7Bw#RvTqNPe7kmfcGbhoA5vzqA) and give us the lowdown on his CandyCot fruits. John has traveled the world in search of truly sweet and flavorful apricots and in his introduction he brought up places like Kazahstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Central Asia. He gathers seeds, grows plant samples and grafts them together (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/m0I1TLmK568I29YBnfBlmA?select=f_SZnXa0FeKMeFhqbmA7Bw#Gm-KBNQISJJG_m8m9NN-0Q) in an attempt to recreate some of earth's sweetest fruit. These plants take many years of love and nurturing in order to bear fruit and John's patience and dedication to his craft has resulted in the sweetest apricots almost every member of our group would later agree that they had ever sampled. To prove this point John also has non-grafted California Blenheim apricots (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/m0I1TLmK568I29YBnfBlmA?select=f_SZnXa0FeKMeFhqbmA7Bw#zknyp7DAo6EMihCLeZHZLQ) on his orchard for skeptics like myself to sample and compare. Blenheims are the standard California apricots found in most supermarket produce sections. After a short talk and Q&A on soil conditioning, pruning and pest management John took us out onto the orchard and allowed our group to pick and sample fruit directly from the trees (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/m0I1TLmK568I29YBnfBlmA?select=f_SZnXa0FeKMeFhqbmA7Bw#3ZeeqGX8i2WPQ9JSCuHtZQ). For the record John prunes his trees using the letter V shape (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/m0I1TLmK568I29YBnfBlmA?select=f_SZnXa0FeKMeFhqbmA7Bw#4tm2_oBedWSHZwRi9G3OyQ) because it creates better airflow for his trees and the fruits seem to grow best this way. These were the Anya variety and we were instructed to pick anything that didn't have green spots. Many of the fruit had brown spots not caused by bruising as John explained but are actually natural indicators of the fruit's sugar content. The more browning on the fruit the sweeter the fruit. I picked one of those and bit into it without a second thought. The juice actually popped from the fruit and ran down my chin and all over my hands. Apricot heaven is what immediately came to mind. These apricots were beyond sweet and amazingly enough one could truly differentiate between the apricot flavor and the sugar content. As unbearable as the outside heat was I didn't want to leave that orchard. Thankfully, John allowed us to pick extras so I had fruit to take home to enjoy (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/m0I1TLmK568I29YBnfBlmA?select=f_SZnXa0FeKMeFhqbmA7Bw#9GydI61pdwGNnvQ6-1kIOg). CandyCots are currently sold either at the Saturday Ferry Plaza Farmers Market (only through July 7, 2012), select markets such as Save Mart and Whole Foods or through mail order. Check out their website for more details. Because of the high sugar content the fruits don't spoil as quickly and keep very well in the refrigerator.

There were things we liked about this fruit stand. It was notable that they carried many snack items (fresh nuts, many varieties of seasoned almonds, freeze-dried vegetables, dried fruits, etc). The bonus was, they had small jars to get samples of everything. We bought several as a result. Next, were their strawberries. Wonderful! Since it was May, I knew they were at their peak in sweetness. While everyone usually goes for the big plump ones, I found a half tray that had seconds, which I prefer. Seconds suffer in looks, but tend to be even more so sweet that the oversized ones, IMHO. These were a beautifully flavored variety and thoroughly enjoyed. We were on a honey hunt. There was a large variety of local honeys here. Loved that we could buy them in many different sized jars, including the cute honey bear squeeze bottles. They did not offer tasting, however. The two we picked were the blue sage and blackberry honeys. Both are great. Their Achilles Heel, sadly, were the baked goods. They looked good, but did not pass the taste test at all. We bought a pie and a couple turnovers. The strawberry rhubarb pie ended up tasting like cherry, and not even a good cherry pie. It had highly thickened filling, little sugar, and was lacking in any real fruit taste. This held true for the turnovers as well. Possibly some of the worst we have ever had. Sadly, everything ended up in the trash. Horrible. Stick with the produce and snacks. Nice quality and many choices.

They carry beautiful, locally grown produce, but they have so much more to offer. Our first great find here was their fresh and frozen fruit pies made by The Pie Company, a well-known, local business located in nearby Ripon. We are already big fans of this pie manufacturer because they supply their frozen pies to some of the larger Ace Hardware stores in our area, too. We live in So Cal, but we can pick up the exact same pies they make and sell here in Ripon/Manteca. We swear by them, especially the peach, apricot, and blackberry. They taste homemade and are piled full of naturally ripened fruit with very little sugar so the fresh fruit flavors shine through. While the crust is more thick than I usually prefer, I decided their crust is one of the better ones. Such a treat! Another find here was the wonderful array of flavored vinegars and honeys. The fig balsamic vinegar is amazing. So good, we returned the next day to bring a few more bottles home with us. There are several local brands to choose from. And then, check out the refrigerator section. If you see products from Long Ranch, this is a local pig ranch that has prize-worthy, thick cut, perfectly smoked bacon that has brought me to tears. Their bacon is heavenly. If I ever get a do-over, I would grab some of everything I see from this Ranch. Since we were on a road trip, we grabbed a few snacks. The sesame sticks, packaged under their own label, are so fresh and delicious. They have many other snack options that carry their label. Bet they are all really good. I am so impressed with the quality of the products they sell, I only wish I lived closer. I'd be a regular here.

It's at the corner of Jack Tone Rd and 120 highway, pretty busy corner traffic wise. Lots of cars in the parking lot so good location! They have lots of probably locally grown fresh fruits and packages of nuts/kettlecorn/trail mix also! But back to what brought us here: fruit pies! And there's a ton of them in an assortment of fresh fruit flavors! I noticed apple, peach, strawberry rhubarb, blueberry, blackberry, boysenberry, mixed berries, apricot, cherry, and probably a few others but since I'm a berries lover I got the boysenberry. Here's where I have mixed feelings: the pies are visually well made using a hand formed buttery crust and lightly sprinkled sugar topping; give it a 4.5 out of 5. The boysenberry filling was very flavorful but too gooey imo, if the chefs cut back on the thickening agent it would be much better; 2.5 out of 5. The cooked outer crust could have been a bit darker/browner but it was cooked through. I would consider another try because I love fruit pies, maybe it was a mistake. And if the return trip for a boysenberry pie ended up being the same, the next one would be apple or something. As they say, YMMV

We were late to our reservation, however, one of the owners was so nice to accommodate. This was the most perfect day to be there for a first time or 5th time. weather was perfect. But, sold out:( you pay for everything and the. Bring to your server and they put it all on a charcuterie board and bring to your table. I really enjoyed their Chardonnay on this rather hot day. People were dancing, drinking, eating and socializing. It was great! the wildflowers on the grounds are so beautiful! They have games to play. And dogs are welcome! Check out all my photos. I'm giving this 4 stars only because I think it's ridiculous to not be prepared and offer pizza as your only vendor and wait 1.5 hours knowing you are completely booked for the day. and, the pizza was really thin, hardly any cheese we could see or taste. Basil was less than appetizing to look at, but we were starving. So we ate every paste bite. I think it would have been nice to offer fresh Apples, pears or grapes in the store for the charcuterie boards. You have to try their soft Jalapeno cheese in the cold case!!! It was delish w/the crackers from Rustic oven. I loved the store... the 2 guys who do the treasures with grapevines are incredible. I can't wait to take a class.
