Apparently i was here before and didn't review it. No offense but often these reviews are for me so I remember where I went or if I liked something. Earlier I got the lunch special with ss pork and chicken subgum. I dont know what diabolical person invented subgum but I gotta stop ordering it. It's just a collection of cheap vegetables. Boo. This time I got the dinner combo. I appreciate the portions. What you see in the picture is the whole meal with only a third of the rice. Excellent. Friend shrimp were juicy enough. I've had better but definitely had worse. The egg roll was filled with just cabbage and other vegetable bits. But the inside was really salty so it didn't have that nasty cabbage fart flavor. But nothing really positive about the filling either Good size pieces and texture on the pork. Not too big, nice and uniform. Sauce was too weird. Some of them start to get metallic but this was nice and mind but still interesting I like the fried rice. Bits of meat in there. It was a little salty but proof they are trying. Decent value. Apparently quiet day, we were the only ones dining in. Service was fast and kind. Tea was great, and cashew shrimp sauce was good too.

We have always enjoyed the food at Lucky Fortune. And Helen the waitress is very friendly and provides great service.

The food was ok except they don't have Egg Foo Young anymore! Lucky Fortune changed ownership and few years ago so we thought we would try it. It used to be our favorite here in Newberg but they no longer have egg foo young on their menu so I guess its time to find a new Chinese restaurant. read more

Oct 1 25. This used to be our go to Chinese restaurant in Newberg, Or, but the order we placed last night will be our last. My wife has been frequenting this restaurant since the 90s and loved it. My first time eating there was 2003 and it was really good. Since we moved back here in 2020 we get Chinese from there 4 - 6 times a year. Our go tos have been Gen Tso's Beef and the Pork Chow Mein, and sometimes some pork fried rice. Last night we had the worst meal ever from there and will no longer frequent their establishment. The Gen Tso's had very little sauce, the pork fried rice had only little pieces of pork in it, and the Chow Mein was just so so. This may have been the most disappointing meal in our life. We were shocked as we were there in April and had a very good meal from them. I stronly advise not wasting your money as the food isnt worth the price. read more

Just a heads up if you order food to go, you have to bring your own soup container..... but the whole meal comes in individual containers that's provided by the restaurant except the soup that makes absolutely no sense and if you want them to get you soup they're going to charge you seven dollars to buy the soup so they can provide you the container to put it in that makes no sense and is completely crazy read more

Will NEVER order food here again, the sesame chicken had 0 sauce on it. When I asked she said it's because there's seeds in the breading? No seeds in the breading btw. I ordered veggie chow mien and chicken chop suey. She gave us TWO chop sueys and said they're the same thing one just comes with rice. When you google chow mein it says the main ingredient it noodles but she wanted to fight us and say we must be referencing Panda Express. read more

I've been coming here since I was a kid so it is nostalgic for me. I always get the sweet and sour chicken, pork fried rice and egg flower soup. Crab puffs are pretty dang good for take out Chinese. The new hours really suck! It's like 3-8 or something. It sucks even more that we can't dine in but yet they have the bar open? they should definitely rethink that! read more

Not bad, but it seems the new owners have made it a bit different. The service was a bit slower that normal, the food was different.

Now that I'm been eating here more often I think they deserve a bump to 4 stars. There are other Chinese food restaurants in Newberg that are not as good. I usually get a combo or beef with broccoli. The crab puff appetizer is heavy on cream cheese and light on imitation crab which I like. They have Widmer Hef on tap here. The service and food is always quick here, even when they are really busy. Sure it's rough around the edges and the bathrooms are gross.... But I can walk here, the food is a bit above average and they have draft beer. So 4 stars. read more

We were not fans. The egg flower soup had ground meat and corn in it. That was odd and not appealing. The pot stickers and the sweet and sour chicken both tasted like they were dusted in powdered sugar, though no visible evidence of such. I typically love sweet and sour for having the sauce on top of white rice. The sweet and sour sauce was all absorbed into the chicken, which also had an extra sweetness to it, and had more batter than chicken. You could not drizzle any of the sauce out of the container for the rice. The chow mien was unrecognizable as chow mien. We threw it out without tasting it. It had a mucous-y sauce that was off-putting visually. I am being kind with two stars. read more

We order from these guys every few months, it's a great family treat. Food is excellent, never have problems. I don't understand some of the bad reviews, like they didn't like something... 1 star. We got our food to go and it was ready in a decent amount of time. The place was very cheap and they gave a TON of food. Once we got home and started eating we realized it was just bland. There was not much flavor to the BBQ pork or the fried rice which was kind of disappointing. I went back today and I swear I am never going back. Their lunch special was between an almond or lemon chicken, neither of which I've had before. I asked the waitress what she recommended and she snapped, "you're the one eating not me" but later suggested the lemon chicken. The dish came out and it was a yellow syrup consistency that covered the entire fried pieces of chicken. Not only did it look like some type of bad buffet dessert, but it also tasted like one. I've never had any chicken dish so sweet before. I told the waitress the food was too sweet and asked to change it to something else. She rejected my request since the food had already been made. I told her I couldn't finish my dish, but she said that wasn't her problem since I ordered an American dish. Wait, Lucky Fortune Chinese Restaurant does not serve Chinese food? Albeit, they have an American section of their menu where they serve obvious American food like burgers, but how am I supposed to know their lemon chicken, which is not in the American section of the menu, is not Chinese? I was so angry I lost my appetite. She came back 10 minutes later and said the boss will give me a different American chicken dish, but it was too late for that. She should have suggested so in the beginning. I told her I am never returning to the restaurant and she laughed it off while saying "okay then, don't come back," and told her co-workers about this "hilarious" situation. I guess Lucky Fortune does not rely on their customers. Perhaps they have their own lucky fortune where their livelihood does not depend on returning customers to support their business. Whatever the case may be, they lost me as a customer, and that's too bad since I always overeat. My life goal from now is to stop anyone from eating impostor Chinese food. If you are in the Newberg area, I suggest you head on over to Sherwood and eat at House of Good Fortune instead. Their food, sizzling rice soup and salt and pepper prawns, and their service is better than anything Lucky Fortune can manage. read more

Man, it had been a long time since I've eaten this good old type of chinese food. I grew up going to places just like this, and Lucky Fortune did not disappoint. Immediately they brought out the silver tea pot, they have great lunch deals, and food is fast, hot, and delicious. BUT, I ate less than half my meal and my stomach hurt so bad after! No food poisoning or anything like that, I think it was just too long since Ive eaten that much grease!!! You know what youre getting when you walk into a chinese food/ video poker spot, and its sooo good. Just make sure your stomach can handle it. read more

I hadn't been to Lucky Fortune for a while and I went back for lunch a couple of weekends ago. Most of the lunch specials include fried food which I would like to avoid, so I did eventually find a good dish with chicken and vegetables. The food has always been satisfactory at Lucky Fortune. Service is a completely different story. In all my trips to Lucky Fortune, I have never had a really friendly or helpful waitress. They always seem curt and serious and don't go out of their way to offer anything but basic service. During this last trip, there were quite a few other people in the restaurant so we didn't necessarily expect prompt service. We did order quickly, but it took almost 30 minutes to get our food. We've never had to wait that long! During that entire wait, our waitress never stopped by to check on us, give us more water, etc. I can imagine going back once in a while just because there aren't many Chinese food options near my house but beware that the service is nothing to brag about. read more

The fried stuff is pretty good. The hot and sour soup is kind of gross tasting- I swear it had ground beef in it, but the waitress was very sure there was no beef, so not sure what the mystery meat was! The bathrooms are GROSS. I hate it when a restaurant has nasty bathrooms- it is really an indication of how the place is run. I don't really recomment it, but if you just want your general tsos fix then it should be fine. read more

Meh. Basic Chinese food. I will say, however, that the portions were HUGE. Very Americanized food. The daily special I had was General Tso's chicken with an egg flower soup (option is that or wonton), an egg roll, crab puffs (with hardly any crab, mostly cream cheese), and steamed rice (option of steamed or fried). I was the only one in the restaurant, and my food came out in about 6 minutes, which makes me think they just had it under a heat lamp. The egg flower soup was the bomb, Egg roll was really good, crab puffs were okay, and the rice was just a tad dry. The chicken was an overall 6/10. Good, but didn't astound me. I think my mom makes better general Tso's haha. But all that for $6.95 made me a happy camper. There was definitely a bit left over for lunch the next day. Overall, I'd say give this place a try if you're looking for a cheap, quick lunch. read more

Not so lucky. Ordered take-out on my first visit. Based on Yelp reviews I expected better. The food (General Tso Chicken, Hunan Beef, combination Lo Mien) was as generic as it gets, very sugary sauces, limp veggies. Very Americanized and predictable. The portions were large, though a little slight on the protein. Ambiance: I went to the restaurant to order and sat in the lobby waiting. Took about 20 minutes. The entrance to the lounge is just inside the main door and drunk women kept coming out for a smoke and going back in. Sounded busy in the lounge. The restaurant was empty with just a few folks coming in to pick up take out. I just don't think there is anything there to go back for. Not the food, not the ambience. read more

Ok listen up. For the visitor or new resident this restaurant won't seem special, but there's a reason it's been around so long. For locals this is a great spot. The service is fine until they get to know you then they are like family. Sure the ambiance isn't going to impress you but after awhile it doesn't matter. This was my second time there for dinner and every dish was a little off, not bad, just a little 'not right'. The Kung Pao Chicken was a little bland and had almost a bitter aftertaste. The Luck Fortune Special Chow Mein was full of great tasting veggies and proteins, but the chow mein noodles were wet and starchy to the point where no flavor was sticking or picked up by them. The hot and sour soup had good flavor, great flavor with good ingredients in it, but it was served just above warm and not hot. The prices were inexpensive, but the food was just OK. Service was attentive and pleasant. They wrapped our leftovers for us, unfortunately they went to the bin after the wife and I discussed not having them as leftovers. read more

I don't love Chinese food. I find it greasy. BUT, it was family night out, and the kids and hubby picked this place. I came along for the ride, thinking I wouldn't eat much. I was pleasantly surprised. The Mandarin Pork was very good. Breaded fried crispy pork pieces that were juicy inside and covered in a sweet thick sauce. I especially enjoyed dipping each piece of crispy pork in the hot mustard sauce. The sweet and sour chicken was especially good (again, crispy fried strips of chicken in a lovely sauce). The cream cheese crab wontons and wrapped fried shrimp were yummy dipped in the same sweet and sour sauce. OK, so I ate too much greasy food, but it was actually really yummy so I am giving this place four stars if you love chinese food. We come to this restaurant regularly and the servers know our names. My husband is allergic to monosodium glutamate (MSG) which Chinese restaurants and others use regularly. Other than a few premade items you can order almost anything on the menu with no MSG. This is a huge relief for us as we have to be very careful of where we eat and what we eat.
