Something is wrong with their freezers. Don't buy frozen food/ice cream from them. What a waste of my money.

There is something special about visiting a neighborhood bakery where you can appreciate the passion, creativity, and hard work that go into making delicious baked goods. One thing I really appreciate about places like PennDel's Bakehouse is the welcoming, inviting atmosphere. It's the kind of bakery that makes you want to slow down, enjoy a little treat, and appreciate the simple things in life. Sometimes, smaller local establishments leave the biggest impression, especially when you can tell how much care goes into what they do. The baked goods are delightful, and I appreciate having a local option that offers something different from the usual big-name bakery chains. There is something comforting about freshly made pastries and supporting people who genuinely love their craft. These little experiences make exploring different communities so enjoyable. Another reason I wanted to leave this review is that I believe small businesses deserve recognition and encouragement. Running a local bakery takes dedication, long hours, and hard work. Whenever I come across a place that brings something positive to the community, I think it's important to show appreciation and spread the word. Overall, PennDel's Bakehouse is a wonderful addition to the El Cerrito community. Whether you're a local resident or just passing through, I encourage you to stop by and try this bakery. Thank you, PennDel's Bakehouse, for bringing a little sweetness to the neighborhood! I wish your business nothing but continued success, and I look forward to visiting again. Keep doing what you do best!

If you've ever had Arsicault, then you'll understand what I mean when I say this place is a true contender. And the best part? You don't have to travel far, pay that toll bridge, or deal with expensive gas. Save all that and give this place a try! Do note: Canelé -- available Friday to Sunday Pastel de nata (Portuguese tarts) -- available Saturday & Sunday What I've tried: Croissant -- Yum, yum, yum! From end to end, it has that perfectly crunchy exterior, and not a hollow bite in sight. Every bite is flaky, buttery, and satisfying. Chocolate Croissant -- A must if you love chocolate. Rich, flaky, and indulgent. Almond Croissant -- Another delicious contender. Nutty, sweet, and absolutely worth it. Apricot Croissant -- Not bad at all. The apricot adds a nice touch without overpowering the pastry. Bostock -- This one was a miss for me. It looked beautiful, but it was missing that little finesse that makes you want another bite. Gâteau au Fromage (Basque Cheesecake) -- A bit pricey, but so worth the splurge because they really know how to nail it. One bite and you won't be able to stop until it's gone. Pastel de Nata -- Crispy edges with a delicate, creamy, and delicious filling. That crunch is everything. Canelé -- These babies sell fast, so make sure to get there when they open. I love the crunchy exterior paired with that soft, custardy inside. Yum, yum, yum! Chocolate Fondant -- Not bad, but not my favorite. I've definitely had better elsewhere. Chocolate Hazelnut Cake -- The flavor was nice, but I found this one just a tad dry. Bottom line: While not everything was a home run, their croissants, canelés, Basque cheesecake, and pastel de nata are absolutely worth coming back for. A hidden gem that delivers big on flavor without the long drive. Definitely worth the visit!

Recently picked up a mini bite-sized, Lava Chocolate Mooncake, which I thought was a nice and new fusion style creation. When I brought it home and cut into it, told myself I am definitely getting this again next time I'm at a Sheng Kee Bakery! Loved the gooey "lava" flow of the chocolate sauce in the filling. They used lotus seed and multiple beans (white kidney beans, red, mung, etc) in the bean paste filling too. Was perfectly not too sweet and the mini size was perfect for me not to overindulge. Sheng Kee is one of my favorite chain brands for Taiwanese/Asian bakeries. Prices are usually reasonable and quality/flavor is consistent. I would say the quality has been declining in recent years. In my latest batch, I found a hair in my pineapple bun which has not happened before but it's not going to stop me from getting my walnut cookies! The location is convenient and the staff is pleasant.
