The very first things you'll notice when you walk into Yuan Bao are the walls. Yes they're a bit…read moreflashy and you could even go a bit further and call them a bit "fobby" as well. However, they're very true to the overall theme of the restaurant which is Taiwan Taiwan Taiwan! Depicted on the panels covering the entire restaurant are pictures of local indigenous Taiwanese foodstuffs, flora and natural scenery. Each picture also has a small English caption that makes it seem like a blown up picture out of an encyclopedia. I love this place though distracting walls and all because they serve up some of my favorite dishes from my mother's home country. The menu itself is quite authentic and they don't really deviate from traditional styles via "fusion" or anything else. The menu ranges from typical street food (beef noodle soup and salt and pepper chicken) all the way to banquet style dishes such as twice cooked pork. Everything I've tried has tasted fresh, and I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes for the food to come out. The service is attentive and consistently refilled my water without me having to ask. The only downside is that they definitely seem to be more comfortable speaking Mandarin Chinese than English. Which in my case was fine but I could see how it could potentially get a little difficult with non-native speakers. The cost was a little on the high side but I believe that the quality of food is definitely worth it. If you're willing to travel a bit outside of the normally bustling Sunnybank area to Sunnybank Hills where the REAL Chinese food is, be sure to give Yuan Bao a try. It's definitely worth your time and who knows you might become as addicted to Taiwanese food as I am!

OMG! The Roasted Duck with Taro is incredible. I am still thinking about it and I was there last…read moreSunday (it's the following Thursday). It's a huge portion that comes on a bed of lettuce. I believe all the dishes here are meant to share. You have to order the rice separately but that's OK. We also had the prawns and scallops in XO sauce which was good but the roasted duck was the winner! My milk tea with pearls was HUGE and the pearls had the correct chewy consistency. I wish that I had ordered the taro one. Next time! The service was friendly. They served us water right when we sat down and were helpful when we were ready to make our order. Great food and pretty good service. I would definitely go back, especially for the food!

Yuan Bao Taiwanese Cuisine Restaurant - Maryland Chicken with Sides. But realised it's not even Taiwanese food. The chicken is just a little under seasoning.

I would always walk past Hot Star always wanting to try their infamous chicken !! I'm so happy I…read moredid ! I ordered the #1 for $9.50. I'll tell you now - IT IS MASSIVE. Like why did I pay $9.50 for a massive chicken nugget/schnitzel but omg it's okay COS ITS MASSIVE. I did a size comparison to my wallet and ouufft you won't be dissatisfied with that sizing ! The server told be you could choose up to 3 flavors out of the 4 to choose from ! It was salt and pepper, chili, seaweed and sweet garlic! I chose all except salt and pepper. It was definitely delicious! Crunchy! Tender! Moist! It looks like there's seasoning on the chicken before it gets breaded, fried and seasoned! Whatever the I love how they don't chip out on the seasoning process! It had a good combination of flavors. But tbh they only seasoned one side ? I don't know if that's what they usually do but I loved the flavor so much I actually wish they season both sides. It took about 10 min to receive as the guy had orders to complete before mine (1 man show?) There was not complete seating in there either, I guess because it's more of an eat and go type food. They have lots more to offer than just the chicken, they have wings, fries, seafood and even fried battered mushrooms. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the random bones at the end of eating it. But they do warn you before hand, and it is expected because it is chicken. It's just that you definitely have to make sure you don't take a ferocious bite at the bottom part because you will end up hurting your teeth/mouth. You know it's good when you're already craving it again the next day. But yes, do not hesitate to get it and get full on a massive chicken nugget !

My hubby is Taiwanese and constantly craves the taste of home. He immediately had to go into here…read moreand get #1, the giant fried chicken breast cutlet. He doesn't like spicy food very much so he only got it seasoned with salt and white pepper with a hint of black pepper. It took some time to get the cutlet but that's because they fry to order! Cutlet came out super juicy and well seasoned. He said it tasted about the same as the ones he's had in Taiwan, except the cutlet size was much larger here! The place is small and doesn't have much seating but other than that it's a good little joint.

Great Taiwanese food and affordable and convenient location for those working at QE2…read more Usually get the set meals combos. The pork mince rice with a snack and a drink for about 13$. Would also recommend the Taiwanese beef noodle. Service is relatively fast. You go up to the counter to order. Food usually takes 10-15 min. Best thing is call ahead during busy lunch hours. Ambience is casual. Done up to look like old times Chinese restaurants. But not fully decorated. Snack wise. I would recommend the fried chicken. It is their signature dish. Fairly big portion for just the small bag. If you get it with the combo you'll definitely be full. Staff speaks mandarin and English. They will answer the phone in both languages and you choose which to respond in.

Good value for money…read more If you can get your order in. The workers there are very slow and seem to have no concept of customer service. Which is not an issue for cheap and tasty Asian food places usually. I expect my Asian food fast, cheap, and tasty. This place has extremely poor bubble tea despite being a Taiwanese place. It was made from powder and was far too watery and sweet. So it tasted like milky sugar water with essence of tea. Not milk tea. The less said about the pearls the better. I hate to give a bad review for an Asian place because they usually give good food at great prices keeping food prices low but I have to review as I usually do, with honesty. Give this place a miss unless you are just ordering food and for takeaway. Avoid the bubble tea and only eat in if you can afford to wait 30 mins before they realise they forgot to make your dish.
