The menu here has lots of potential with some great sounding dishes, but unfortunately they didn't quite live up to expectations.
We started with salt and pepper calamari, which didn't seem overly fresh and quite a heavy batter. We then shared the pork fillets with chili sauce - nice enough flavor but not sensational. The duck with oyster mushrooms left a lot to be desired - absolutely no flavour, and rubbery meat. The impression that I got is that all food had just been reheated (lukewarm) and wasn't prepared fresh or to order.
I will note that on the night we visited, the restaurant was hugely understaffed with only one waitress out the front and the owner out the back in the kitchen, which possibly could have impacted food quality also. The owner came out at the end of the meal and profusely apologised, explaining staff shortage etc, and requested that we come back again - a nice personal touch.
The decor here is quite modern and a couple of steps up from your average tacky Chinese takeaway restaurant. I would be interested to try this place again at a later stage, once they are back to full staff both in the restaurant and kitchen again as do think it's got the potential to be a good restaurant. read more
