In the past, we would sit outside on the deck to admire the land and dine at the (former) restaurant. Word on the block is that a new restaurant is in the works as of July 2025 which is exciting! Flash forward to present day, I am finally into golf and got to play 18-holes. On one of the holes we had a deer visit us which was so majestical! I adore the fresh greenery and wilderness here. Note: the back 9 is very difficult. Maybe plan for some balls to go in the water? My grandpa turned 103 this year and we celebrated by him making it through about 5-holes. Go, grandpa!! In addition, we also celebrated his 100th here a few years back outside with food catered in from the golf course. My family adores the close proximity to our cabin, the friendly staff, clean facilities and the great prices. I look forward to many more visits. Thank you!!

Butternut Hills Golf is an excellent course in northern Wisconsin. Any level of golfer can be…read morechallenged by the course. Some sand, some water and some narrow fairways - but a fair course if you can hit your ball reasonably straight. Greens on some holes are tricky - but all but a couple are in great shape. I like to walk - but it is tough on this course because of the distance between some of the greens to the next tee box. So, unless you have time for a 5 hour round - probably best to take a cart. The green fees are a little pricey - but I normally only play this course on the weekends- so I assume they jack up the prices on the weekends to take advantage of the cabin owners. However, I enjoy the course enough to pay a little extra.

Have played here on and off since it first opened. Current owners are the third group to run this…read moreplace since the beginning. Course is challenging but manageable for the typical golfer. If rating solely on that i would give it 4 stars. I rated as I did because the staff is rude at best pushing towards unprofessional and insulting. The course ranger we encountered today was pushing for a punch in the nose. We were a foursome iof seasoned (I'm in my 60's) golfers who know and play with proper golf etiquette. There were a large number of 2 somes and singles playing this Sunday. They are obviously going to play a faster round and when they were waiting on us, we would let them play through. The ranger busted our chops about not letting people play through. Why would this course book anything other than 3-4 somes on a weekend and combine doubles and singles? Very unlikely I'll be back until there are new owners, which based on the relatively empty parking lot at peak season will happen sooner than later.

This course reminds me of the beautiful courses in northern Minnesota with amazing sight lines and a great layout. You would be hard pressed to find a course with more mature white pine trees. The scent from all the trees is soothing - even after a bad shot. The course is not long but fairways are narrow placing a premium on accuracy off the tee. The greens are good size and in good shape. The course distance was good for our wives who do not hit the ball far. Highly recommend playing here. Great value, great times, and great people.

We go at least once or twice a week when we are up at the lake. There is a par 3 and a regular course, as well as a bar to keep you well-hydrated while on the course.
