We decided to go to Fawn Doe Rosa to celebrate my granddaughter's 7th birthday. We had a wonderful time and really enjoyed the many upgrades they have made since we were last there. They had some new buildings with educational areas and so me additional animals. There was an exhibit showing egg incubation as well as the differences in fur pelts from a variety of animals. We enjoyed seeing the new smaller animals that had been added since our last visit 6 years ago. While looking at the Elk, a worker offered to let us hold last year's alter rack. That was a highlight for my granddaughter. She also enjoyed feeding all the animals and the pony ride. It was such a fun way to spend the day! read more

This is definitely a unique place. Right away I have to say my toddler loved it! Interestingly he loved feeding the goats the most though I'd say that was the least unique thing about this spot. As we have fed goats at many a petting zoo. ( my personal favorite was being befriended but a turkey who followed me for awhile and didn't seem to want food but simply attention ) The deer were of course the draw. It was certainly was a unique experience getting to feed them. Though truth be told I couldn't help but feel that perhaps it wasn't right to keep these animals like this. We came on a Wednesday morning and the place was pretty busy though not overly so. They do have a massive parking lot so I would say it's likely they get real busy on the weekends. You can buy food for feeding the animals in either a plastic bucket or simple paper bags. At checkout it seemed the bucket would give more food but you get it half empty so that felt a bit sneaky to me. It seems they are pawning off a cheep bucket as a bit of a souvenir item. One of my favorite day trips is to the Taylor's Falls area of Minnesota. One of the stops we make is to Fawn Doe Rosa which is located just past Taylor's Falls in St Croix Falls Wisconsin about an hour from the Twin Cities metro area. This zoo is so fun! We love being able to feed all the animals and really be able to get up close and personal with some of them (especially the deer). Admission costs $11.50 for adults and $10.50 for under age 12. Be sure to pick up some feed bags too as that is when the real magic happens here! read more

Was a costly afternoon but definitely worth the day. So many different animals to see and feed. The staff were friendly and even brought out some of the smaller animals so you could see a bit closer. There's so much more than just deer here. You can tell these animals are well fed because they are picky. When you buy the food, it comes mixed in a bucket so you may want to take a bit to figure out what each animal likes so you can separate the food, ie ducks want the corn and they aren't trying to eat anything else and the deer are tired of the little dried balls and will want your carrots (you get very few carrots so I break them into pieces). Bring a few quarters to get fish food at the koi pond. read more

Our family have been coming here for forty years as our cabin is just a few miles away on Deer Lake. We're on our fourth generation of Fawn Doe Rosa lovers as we took my grandkids last week. Every summer they get excited on the drive up and ask several times a day if this is the day we're going! One tip: Get there a few minutes before they open at 10 and avoid the crowds because by noon the parking lot is packed. Admission is $10.50 adults and $9.50 kids 2-12 and you get a bag of food - mostly some kind of feed pellet, some corn, a carrot or two, and a chunk of some large animal kibble. If you buy a green bucket of feed for $8, they refill it free when you bring it back. My littles like to use the shovel to feed the animals because they're a bit leery of letting them eat out of their palms, like Granny does! Some reviews have described mangy looking deer, but remember this is a rescue sanctuary and some of the animals would not survive in the wild. Where else can you feed chickens, ducks, goats, miniature horses, donkeys, llamas, alpacas, turkeys, let a baby goat suck on your finger, or pet baby opossum, baby goats, Fox kits, and fawns? So cool. There's a lot to see and the property is sprawling, so wear comfy shoes that can get dirty and have fun! read more

Fawn Doe Rosa is a unique experience. They have deer, peacocks, chickens, ducks, mini horses, llamas, and goats. You could pet some of the deer. I never had the opportunity to be this close to deer before. They also have a on site store gift shop. You can feed the animals at an additional cost. There is some walking, and the paths are gravel. They have a big gravel parking lot, and if it is busy, you do have to walk a little to get to the entrance. The staff are very knowledgeable about the animals. read more

We visited here a couple weeks before school started, during vacation. It was fun and the kids really enjoyed it! For me, it was a little busy. Feeding all the animals was really cool - we bought a small bag of food inside, and someone gave us a bag of carrots that they smuggled in. The deer LOVE carrots! After a while, I think the animals get overfed and are less interested in eating. As we left, we checked out the gift shop. My children had a hard time finding something that was under $10 that would be a cool souvenir for the place. Great family destination. It's a petting zoo, with a ton of extras. Deer, goats, ducks all wander the grounds freely. They are super familiar with people and extended hands holding some feed to munch on. On top of the wandering animals, they have some cool local exhibits and native critters available for viewing. Badgers, wolves, otters, pigs, llamas, elk...probably more in forgetting. The grounds are really nice and well maintained too, it's basically like being at a park. Nice lake with a bridge and fountain, green grass, trees and benches scattered throughout. You can make it last as long or as short as you want. We took our 18 month old and I thought she would be scared, but the animals are so tame she had no issues walking right up to them. I'd say up to early teens would have a great time walking around and seeing the animals, but really any age can enjoy themselves. read more

Absolutely one cool place to visit for any age. Dozens of deer roaming freely. Along with many others. Lots of petting and wet kisses. Benches though out the park. While you can't bring your own food inside they do have a few picnic table outside to eat. Gift shop is crazy expensive, basic hat was $23. What would be nice is if they offered a season pass. My grandson would bring me here weekly and the food we'd buy to feed the animals. But they don't so we can't come very often, expecting gas prices to keep going up. read more

Great place for kids. Easy drive from the Twin Cities. This is a deer/goat petting and feeding sanctuary. It's a big place so you never feel crowded. They have numerous dear, goats, geese, chickens and other animals that you can feed and pet. They also offer pony rides. When you arrive you can buy feed bags and carrot bags. The deer will rip the bags right from your hands. I saw several kids and adults lose their bags of food the minute they walked into the area. Staff were friendly. This place is sad. The deer had bare patches and looked extremely stressed when we went. Other animals are kept in tiny cages and were either pacing or hiding. There was one goat who looked like it was about to give birth and extremely distressed. I couldn't find any employees inside the actual park, only at the checkout. I know this place is considered a "Sanctuary " , but I don't think the animals are relaxed or happy being pet until their fur rubs off or being fed sugary carrots all day. That can't be healthy. I get the appeal, and I think I would have enjoyed it more If the animals seemed happier. read more

Kids and I had a great time here yesterday morning until our visit was cut extremely short when a I was bitten by a pig! So thankful it wasn't one of my children's fingers because the result would have been far worse. Pretty sure the pig thought my hand was food but literally bit down on my pinkie and would not let go. Extremely terrifying. The farm family assured me all of their animals are vaccinated, etc. I also received access to a sink with running water and soap, an ice pack and a hand towel. I fully understand that these are farm animals and they can turn at any moment but the main focus of this place is to feed the animals/petting Zoo. no refund, no passes to visit again in the future, no taking down of my information- pretty disappointing for such a popular place with rave reviews. Returned to this place for our third annual family trip! We few in from NY to Minnesota to visit my family and we always stop at fawn doe Rosa. This place is magical for kids and adults alike. The deer, ducks, chickens and occasional cheeky goat come right up to you for food. In the three years we have been coming, there has never been an aggressive animal. Today my four year old was having so much fun I had to drag her away. The location. Is beautiful. The only thing that made me sad honestly was the wolf enclosure, I feel like they need more space. But visiting this place is one of my favorite parts of being home. We will be back! read more

Last night we got a flat tire in front of Fawn Doe Rosa.... We had our 3 dogs, 3 year old little boy and 8 month old baby....we were traveling across the country to CO so it really put a damper on our travels. We were also towing a trailer, which with it getting dark, made me nervous having the kids in a car on the side of busy hwy 8. I looked out the window and there was Fawn Doe Rosa. I got the kiddos out and my 3 year olds started to play on the play ground set and talking to the ducks, geese and deer through the fence. It was a Sunday night so they were closed, but while we were working out jitters and getting the most out of circumstances, the sweetest woman came outside of the building to check on us. We told her we were waiting for roadside assistance (which didn't show up for 3 hours). She opened the gates to let us pull our truck and trailer in to get us off of the hwy, and continued her kindness. Offering us to walk around and check out the other deer and farm animals. My son thought this was the COOLEST THING EVER. Next thing, this same woman came over with snacks, water, toys and treats for the animals! THANK YOU FDR Family for being the KINDEST and sweetest Wisconsin nice I've ever seen! Now my son wants flat tires all the time! Lol Thank you!!! read more

If you take your children here....you will be asked to go back every day for the next 2 months! Yes, it's actually that awesome..I may have asked my husband if we could go back the following weekend. Don't judge me! Between baby possums, rabbits, goats climbing in our stroller...and of course deer! It was an amazing day. The day we went the weather was absolutely perfect! It was the most beautiful day! When we arrived we bought each of our little buckets of food to feed the animals...I was so worried we would run out, but at the end we couldn't get rid of it! People leaving kept giving us more! It was pretty cool. The rabbits did bite my 4.5 year old causing quite the bloody mess, but he is 4.5 and probably got to aggressive feeding it? Or his little finger looked like the carrot he was trying to force in its face. Who knows, but just know these are animals and they can bite. We weren't upset because we love animals. You could spend hours here honestly. We thought we were done and looked to the left when we got to the front only to find...more animals! That was another hour! Take your kids! There are many knowledgeable staff members available. Besides the petting zoo where you can brush a soft bunny, there are ponies to ride (extra charge) too. Ducks, chickens, and a HERD of deer roam the entire property. Amazing! Also you can pet donkeys, minature horses, llamas, alpacas, a. herd of goats, and so much more. There are several wooden animal cutouts for photo opts. So cute!! Critter food is available both in the gift shop and throughout the entire area. Such a great time! I had a visit to this zoo as a summer bucket list item. We finally made the trek from South of the River and it was so worth it! I had my 5yo and 3yo with us. We arrived near noon, plenty of parking and easy to find. We brought our own lunch and ate outside in the picnic area (no food allowed inside). After eating we went in the gift shop and purchased our tickets. We purchased 4 small bags of food ($2 each)...we only needed two (could have used more carrots...the deer love them). My children absolutely loved the experience and so did I. So unique...so nice. All the staff was nice. They were constantly cleaning the grounds (raking up poop from deer). So awesome! Highly recommended! Now for my public health hat. The facility could use another handwashing station, and also signage. Handwashing signs are needed as reminders to patrons that there is a risk of disease and that risk is lowered by handwashing. There were some hand sanitizing stations around...but again no signs..so they didnt stand out. Also people should not take strollers in the facility. Strollers track poo everywhere and tires aren't usually disinfected. Leave your stroller at home, take pacifiers away if possible. If they drop on the ground, actually wash them. Overall though I loved the place. Just go in and remember to wash your hands/sanitize frequently read more

the pony rides have GOT to GO before i come back! Otherwise this park is well kept, the staff really care, and the animals have ample space (except for 1 badger who i've seen pacing every time) i love love love it here, but the pony rides are a contradiction in ethics. they were straight up confined unmoving to a merry go round type thing with their heads draping over poles. there wasn't even any kids wanting to ride them. it was if not physically cruel, psychologically cruel. I hope a staff member brings this up in a meeting. we have moved passed the times of PT Barnum and that's exactly what this is. SO SAD. (would have given 5 stars without the ponies) read more

I had no idea this place existed (and I lived in Forest Lake for 15 years) but I am glad my father-in-law took us here on our most recent trip. Right when we walked in a deer greeted us, and that is pretty much how the whole visit was. Deer and other animals surrounded us at all times, it was heaven. My kid even got to pet a skunk. I do wish their gift shop had more items that were branded with their name as a fun keepsake, but really no complaints. read more

This.Place.Is.Magical. When we pulled into the lot, it looked packed with vehicles..but once we got inside, the park was huge and it didn't seem packed at all. Immediately when we walked in, a deer walked right up to me and gave me a kiss on the lips! Most of the animals are friendly and walk right up to you for treats. One bucket of feed lasts around the park between two people. The park is clean and most of the animals seem happy This would be a great place to bring kids and it's also appropriate for adults as well. I'd definitely do this again. Pretty cool for kids to see animals up close. When you enter and you pay your entrance fees ($9.50 for an adult and kids under 2 are free) they ask if you want to buy some food to feed the animals. There's a small paper bag option and a bucket option which i guess you can refill for cheap if you go back again. We did the small paper bag option for $2. The one overwhelming thing is that the animals that are roaming around free (some deer, ducks, geese, chickens, and there was a sheep) are so used to people feeding them that they immediately come to you looking for food. So if you have small kids and they have never experienced this before it could be a bit much. Once you get over the hungry animals then you can roam around and see other animals in either cages or fenced areas. The variety of animals was pretty impressive. There was also a pony ride section for kids. We went on a hot summer day and i wish there was more places where you can sit and relax so we could have spent a few hours. read more

Fantastic. All the animals seemed really happy and in clean homes. My two-year-old was just thrilled to have deer follow him around and take food right from his hand. I do think it's a bit cost-prohibitive for a larger family, but if limited to just going once a year or so, it's okay. I'll note that Google Maps doesn't place this correctly and I was directed all over the place. The sign is a bit hard to read (Dark green text on a dark brown sign), so just look for the McDonalds on the left and go a bit further! read more

I love Americana and this fits right in that category of weird cool kitchy roadside attractions. Its like an enormous petting zoo and wildlife park. All of the animals are so tame and friendly and just roam freely and eat out if your hand. Definitely a fun stop. read more

When I visited the Fawn-Doe-Rosa, I asked a staff member why the wild animals in cages were even part of the Fawn-Doe-Rosa. She said it was educational. Putting animals in small cages should not be justified for educational purposes. These animals spend their entire lives in small cages. This is not educational, it is cruel. It is difficult to meet the needs of wild animals in captivity. The animal is unable to experience their natural behavior, don't get enough exercise, and rarely have enough space. I could see the boredom and sadness in their eyes. I don't doubt that the animals are well cared for, but the staff members that I asked made it seem that everything is just wonderful for these animals. If you agree that these wild animals should not be at the Fawn-Doe-Rosa, please tell them that you do not approve so that hopefully these exhibits will stop. read more
