When I first arrived on Friday I was greeted by one of the owners Merle. I was told where my spot…read morewas and informed it was pretty wet from this past weeks rain which I was prepared for. They have lots of great activities including a rubber duck race where the donate 1/2 of the money raised to the local food shelf. Everything was going great until yesterday(Sunday) when I decided to walk around the campground to check out more of the area. I was on the road at the far end of the campground when a campers 4 dogs spotted me and started running and barking aggressively. I stopped to try and give the owners a chance to call them off as well as hopefully deescalate the situation. That is when the German Shepherd came around the back of me and bit my bum. I said ouch. The owner finally got the dogs attention and put him in their camper. I left and went back to my camp site. I saw the skin was broken and soon I had a large bruise. I called the office and asked if the campground owners could please stop by my site as I wanted them aware of what happened. 2 hours later still no contact from them. I then went up to the bar and restaurant and located Merle and Laura. I told the what transpired and only had one request which was to please find out if the dog is up to date on vaccines. They said they would. That was 6 pm last night. I left the campground at 10 am this morning and still have not been contacted. Dogs off leash when so many children are around is an issue. If the campers next to me had encountered this dog with their 1 and 3 year olds I do not think it would have been I so minor. Again loved the campground and activities but disappointed that this issue was not followed up on. Worst part is the dogs belong to a long time seasonal camper at the facility so I'm afraid it won't be addressed.

Too much to say and no positive comments. Overall experiance from ownership, service and food all…read morepoor. Wouldn't recomend to an enemy.

Banning State Park was one of our favorite outdoor stops during our Hinckley getaway. The park is…read moreknown for its scenic hiking trails, sandstone cliffs, and the views of the Kettle River, making it a great place to spend a few hours exploring. Our goal was to find the waterfall, but like many first-time visitors, we ended up taking a wrong turn and wandered a little longer than expected. Honestly, it turned into part of the adventure. As we explored, we spotted deer quietly moving, squirrels darting between the trees, and plenty of birds and caterpillars along the way. We discovered quiet trails, beautiful overlooks, and peaceful stretches of the river that we might have missed if we'd gone straight to our destination. The sound of the water, the surrounding rock formations, and the forest scenery made it one of those places where you naturally want to stop and take it all in. If you're visiting Banning State Park for the first time, don't stress if you get a little turned around. Give yourself extra time, wear comfortable shoes, and enjoy the journey.

It is located off I-35 near Sandstone, and 90 miles away from the Twin Cities (about an hour and a half away). It is worth making a day trip to visit. The park stretches along 10 miles of the Kettle River, and has 1.5 miles of churning class IV rapids for those daring kayakers.

They have lovely grounds that are kept up. The playground didn't appear to be too old and they had one playground specifically for toddlers and another for big kids that had 2 huge slides. There are bathroom facilities near the beach and by the playground. They also had a water fountain. The beach was great. The water was clear and the floor was sandy. What a beautiful lake. And the water was warmer than I expected even on a cooler 75 degree day. Lots of places to park your cooler and/or towels and wasn't too busy. And lots of parking spaces too.

The best I can do for golfing is mini golf and I'm not even that good and tend to play mini golf like Happy Gilmore. All the more reason for me to go out fishing or boating. One of our favorite locations is Big Marine Park. There is public access to the lake on the North end however for $7.00 a day or a $30.00 for the year, you have access to so much more. From a boating perspective, the access is wide and nicely paved. Room enough for two vehicles at a time where the other access is a single access. Plenty of room to park. There is a fishing pier that is handicapped accessible. A really nice beach with a playground, picnic area and pavilion. There are even scenic hiking trails. The park is open from 6:00am to 10:00pm. Lots to like and enjoy about Big Marine Park for kids of all ages which is just one reason why we look forward to our next visit.
