He loves what he does, and he enjoys talking about and showing off his numerous projects. Check out the book in his shop that shows the kind of work that he's done. This man is living the dream - he's doing what he loves, with incredible attention to detail. He's not doing it for massive profits, but because he really, really loves his work. And though he's an amazing restorer, he is most enthusiastic about repurposing older pieces to fit your current lifestyle. Ask him about his pump organ projects - something that was basically broken down and unusable was repurposed into a desk with hidden cubbies and secret panels like something out of that National Treasure movie. Which led me to basically dream planning having one of this pump organs be redesigned into a goth themed vanity of my dreams. Never mind that I live in a studio. And I was SHOCKED at how low the starting price for a project like that was - seriously, he is undercharging for the kind of work he does. I am seriously considering getting rid of my couch and tv cabinet just to make room for his custom vanity with secret cubbies and hidden drawers and expandable table tops. But if you're not ready for that and are looking for someone to fix/restore/recane/refinish cherished family pieces or even fix up that flea market find, Mr. McCann is your guy. I held onto his info and reached out to him to have him restore a 55 year old mid century one piece sofa sectional. It was my Dad's bachelor sofa. 10ft long. Over the years my folks had it reupholstered 3xs. When i inherited I had it done boldly in red Naugahyde. That was 21 years ago. Iron Gate Antiques just reupholstered in recycled leather and they added a lil height lift to it because she was a low rider. It's beautiful. The entire gang at Iron Gate made this project so much fun to do and I'm so pleased with the work they did abs the outcome

I love going and I always leave with something special. Highly recommend for anyone looking for something unusual, antique/vintage, and/or quirky to use to decorate or to photograph (costume jewelry, gumball machine, coke bottles, vintage ice skates, antique lantern, old quilt with character, are just a few examples). I tend to stick to the Victorian era and prefer the unusual. The photos of candles and 80s stuff don't do it justice. There are plenty of cabinet cards and tin types, large charcoal portraits and pictures in the $20-30 range. Cabinet cards were 6 for $10! I saw a few older dolls at only $50 each. Ended up with a fairly uncommon embalming fluid bottle of all things. There's a booth at the top of the stairs with the lowest prices I've seen in a while for true antiques. It was nicely curated and balanced. My only complaint - and I don't know if this is an issue in the area or what, was the intense security. I really don't like buying when I feel like the shop assumes I'm going to steal. I usually go through stores twice and found what I wanted at second glance. When we checked out a comment was made that they knew we had already seen everything and it made me feel like I was being watched and I felt like the man was looking to see what was in my hands. But who knows, maybe they had a theft issue. Overall a nice shop.
