Great spot for unique furniture items, owners are amazing people, very helpful. I'd recommend even if you're just browsing.

He loves what he does, and he enjoys talking about and showing off his numerous projects. Check out the book in his shop that shows the kind of work that he's done. This man is living the dream - he's doing what he loves, with incredible attention to detail. He's not doing it for massive profits, but because he really, really loves his work. And though he's an amazing restorer, he is most enthusiastic about repurposing older pieces to fit your current lifestyle. Ask him about his pump organ projects - something that was basically broken down and unusable was repurposed into a desk with hidden cubbies and secret panels like something out of that National Treasure movie. Which led me to basically dream planning having one of this pump organs be redesigned into a goth themed vanity of my dreams. Never mind that I live in a studio. And I was SHOCKED at how low the starting price for a project like that was - seriously, he is undercharging for the kind of work he does. I am seriously considering getting rid of my couch and tv cabinet just to make room for his custom vanity with secret cubbies and hidden drawers and expandable table tops. But if you're not ready for that and are looking for someone to fix/restore/recane/refinish cherished family pieces or even fix up that flea market find, Mr. McCann is your guy. He's a freaking treasure and he's absolutely worth the drive out to visit for a consult (or even just a chat )

I held onto his info and reached out to him to have him restore a 55 year old mid century one piece sofa sectional. It was my Dad's bachelor sofa. 10ft long. Over the years my folks had it reupholstered 3xs. When i inherited I had it done boldly in red Naugahyde. That was 21 years ago. Iron Gate Antiques just reupholstered in recycled leather and they added a lil height lift to it because she was a low rider. It's beautiful. The entire gang at Iron Gate made this project so much fun to do and I'm so pleased with the work they did abs the outcome

I mean the art blew my mind, the glassware, furniture. OMG! I could have spent DAYS in this place! Small, cramped, but what a find!

This guy is good-looking, knowledgeable, and a lunatic. You…read morecan find him only at the high-end east coast antique shows. If you visit Malcolm's store in Millwood VA, you will see thousands of broken, dirty, dusty and cobwebbed items marked with prices you will see only in an insurance claim. Hoards like these are where the good stuff is rotting away, and you can see some very beautiful items in those piles. Just don't try to buy anything for what it's worth, he doesn't like it. I have heard two Malcolm anecdotes. In number 1, a rich lady picked out two items totalling $4000.00. She asked him if he could do better, and I'm not sure what he said, but she left very angry, and without buying anything. The second anecdote is related by someone who saw Malcolm bidding at an estate auction. Estate auctions work like this: the items are first appraised at a certain amount, usually somewhere higher than retail, for tax purposes. The opening bid at each auction is based on this appraisal. No picker or antique dealer ever bids this price, because it is too high for them to make a profit at resale. After no bids are made, the auctioneer then lowers the opening bid to the point where bidding starts. The price realized is far lower than the tax appraisal, so the consignor gets to take a loss, pays no taxes and everyone goes home happy. At this particular auction, there was a set of four side chairs that normally retails for $150-200.00. The appraised value of these chairs was for $185.00 each. The auctioneer fully expected to get no bids at this price and that the set would eventually sell for $75-100.00. To the surprise of everyone at the auction, Malcolm bid the asked-for appraisal price of $185.00 apiece for the chairs. It is presumed he sold the chairs to a nouveau riche immigrant at one of the high-end east coast antique shows, for otherwise they are surely rotting on the front porch of his store in Millwood where no one who knows antiques will pay anywhere near a fifth of what he is asking for them. Enjoy your visit.

I have purchased things that they said were gold and silver. The actual charm was silver and gold, but the chains on both were garbage. Very misleading in the description did not state or indicate that the chains weren't gold or silver. I have been charged twice on items purchased. When you try to speak to the women working there they are nasty and rude. Thank you for responding to my review. Contrary to what you believe, sir I was not upset at all. My bank had already put the money back in my account and it was minimal so there was no reason for me to be upset. I simply told your staff that I had done that at a courtesy. I was asked by your staff to wait because she needed to speak with the employee to find out what it happened. I sat there and waited for 15 minutes. She came back and explained to me once again that her employee made a mistake which I stated to her was not a big deal. Accidents happen. Your staff was rude and nasty and said because I called my bank and reported it that that was gonna look bad on her business that I should've told her about it when I came in. Not only did she attack me and was nasty even though I explained to her that it wasn't a big deal. She continued to talk rudely to me. Also another staff member of yours jumped into the conversation.. rude and nasty both of them. Didn't care it was an honest mistake, but I will not tolerate someone speaking rude and nasty to me when I was kind enough to tell her what happened. If she was upset, she should've taken it out on her staff the one who created the problem, not me I'm your customer.

Honesty and integrity was a big concern and the local "auction" services there all seemed "dodgy". Several realtors suggested McDonald's liquidation service. I was impressed by their knowledge of antiques and collectibles and the fact they travel to metro areas where these items bring higher prices. Their commission was fair. They cleaned out the contents relatively quickly and I was pleased with the results of the sales. I highly recommend McDonald's Estate Liquidation Service.

We found a small shoebox full of Christmas ornaments and took it to them to get a price (nothing was priced). The man working proceeded to shove his hand in the box and throw things around breaking the hat off a snowman in the process. First said it was $20 and before anyone could answer and pay he took 3 ornaments out of the box and then said $10 for the box and $20 for those three. Then again before anyone could answer he grabbed his phone and scanned one of the ornaments with it. Said one of the three is expensive online and that he needed $59 for the Santa ornament and $8 for the box of ornaments including the one he broke by rooting through it. We left empty handed. This place is very unprofessional and clearly lacks knowledge on how to function in their profession.
