Then I said I was just looking for some idea of their pricing when--all of a sudden his tone totally changed and he promptly told me they were not taking new customers. B.S. I sold advertising to guys like him (and major corporations, too) for years, and when I found one like him that won't give pricing and cuts you off that he can't take you, it's because he wants you to ignore pricing so he can suck you dry moneywise. He's looking for people who will pay whatever he decides and not say anything but "thank you, Hair God." I'm sure he overcharges plenty of people who are unsuspicious of his tactics....but that just isn't me. If you go to Lucent just be aware of how much your pocket might be picked for a hair style you could get somewhere else that actually cares about you more than how much they can con you out of your money. I have been going to Eric for my hair cuts for the last 1.5 years, after receiving a recommendation from a different salon for stylists that are good with short cuts for women. He is AMAZING! I've never gotten a bad or questionable cut/style. I started with a reference photo the first time and from there it's been effortless to get a beautiful cut from him. Like others have said he is great to talk to as well. Just an amazing stylist. Sadly, he is getting 4 stars because as much as I love him, I recently decided to change my color from redhead to platinum. I chose, because of the difficulty, and cost and time, to fly my old stylist to Phoenix from Seattle to do the color change for me. I'm not bragging about the ability to do so, but stressing how nervous I am with my hair. When I scheduled my next cut, and root touch up he went MIA and never responded to my request for an appt. While this is totally his right as a professional, it was a very unprofessional response. With all that said, I miss him handling my hair. I had moved from Seattle after having the same stylist for 8 years and now I have to find another. It's frustrating, again 4 stars for the breakup. But he is easily a 5 star stylist. read more

I'm writing this review because I recently moved to California and am missing J's styling terribly. First off, J's hair-cutting/styling skills are FLAWLESS. I left feeling gorgeous and not like I had just gotten a mom haircut from 1970 (which has happened more than I'm proud of at other salons). J's skills were especially highlighted when he cut my husband's hair a few times. My husband always left extremely satisfied and with an extra boost of confidence. Just yesterday we were talking about how Lucent Studios is one of the only reasons we miss Arizona. I would absolutely recommend J no matter what look you are going for. Brittany transformed my washed out, dried out, fine, thin hair into gorgeous, shiny, healthy looking hair. I give her a 10 and her blowout was fantastic (unlike many blowouts I've had). I was fortunate enough to find Lucent Studio over a year ago. Eric is attentive and listens to his customers.. finally a hair stylist that listens! His techniques are state of the art and he is constantly updating his methods. This is the sign of a true evolving artist. My advice to anyone wanting to book Lucent is to be aware that you get to book a few weeks in advance as he is high in demand. It has been my experience that any salon that has same day openings isn't that much of a "hot" commodity on the market and certainly isn't stella - something to think about ;) . Most precision cut I have ever had! Eric is a Master of his trade! I walked In with a badly butchered haircut from another salon. You can't get in. Left message on answering machine never got a call back. Then I call at 10am when they say they are open and Eric tells me they are not ope and he will call me back ok so I wait and wait until after 1pm and I call again. Eric asks how I heard about them and I tell him yelp and he proceeds to ask me what I need and I tell him a cut, style and possibly color tell him I want my hair cut and kinda a blond color and he pro reds to tell me that they can't get me in till the end of July! Say WHAT!? It's May 16th. Why didn't you just tell me that when I first called at 10am when you were supposed to be open but you told me you didn't open cuz you had no appointments I would have loved to have tried them out because of their reviews but I don't know anyone who would or could wait 2 1/2 months for a cut. I started going to J when I was about 17 (30 now!) when he worked at Toni & Guy and will follow him anywhere! I have had a lot of complex short cuts through the years and J is ALL about precision... he will literally spend hours on your hair making sure everything is right. My biggest recommendation is if you have short hair you do not want to go to ANYONE else! Your hair will look AMAZING and the cuts last a really long time (which is great when you have short hair)! J is a true artist too, I cannot count how many times I have set in his chair and told him "go for it" and the haircut being amazing. He isn't afraid to takes things in a different direction if he doesn't think a certain style will work for you too (face shape etc.), which we all can appreciate that! I am trying out the "longer hair thing" and still go to J. I leave with shiny- healthy looking hair and the best thing he will style my hair any way I want or he wants! I never realized it was so difficult to find a stylist who really knows how to cut hair. After trying various salons over the course of the last three years, I was about to give up. That was until I found J at Lucent studios. This guy really knows how to cut hair. I got one of the most perfect haircuts I've had in years. Especially with short hair this is really critical. He knew exactly how to style my hair and cut it perfectly. When short hair grows out looking as good as when its first cut, that's a sign of a really GOOD haircut!
