With all the reviews about the bird shit, why has it not been addressed??? The City of Petaluma needs to own up to this!! There's sprinklers that go on the walking path in an area where the birds do not shit. If they put grass and sprinklers next to the building where they have yoga, it would clean the sidewalks. When something bad happens in someplace nice that place is forever tainted by the memory. This is exactly the reason you should come to Lucchesi Park with dire news. It'd be hard to ruin any memories of a place that's already this crap-tastic. Rather than googling "best parks in Petaluma" someone googled "nearby parks in Petaluma" and there's a big difference. We had a nice bottle of wine, some plastic cups, and poured ourselves a little splash after parking the car. We wanted to sit on a bench by the water, sip our wine, and enjoy the ambiance. In one direction the water-adjacent path was so littered with duck/goose/bird poop that I headed the opposite way. I rounded a bend and discovered the same thing in that direction: A shitstorm the likes of which I've never before seen. I turned around and opted for a bench in front of the building with merely a view of the most egregious poop mounds rather than a close-up. I laughed: this place is disgusting. There's a hiking trail at the other end of the park and a playground across the water but I really had no desire to explore. Later that evening I found Penry Park and imagined what could've been. Be prepared for duck and goose poop all around the water! Parking is abundant, though, so you can get pretty close to anything you'd like to in this park. There's a hiking trail here called Lynch Creek Trail -- not a fan of the name, but the location is pretty. There are 2 playgrounds here, but I only visited the newer teal playground with recycled rubber flooring. LOVED the flooring because kids fall all the time. Seating is awesome here, with a mixture of adult-sized picnic tables and benches, along with toddler-sized picnic tables. The playground also has 4 swings --- 1 infant / toddler, 1 regular black swing, and 2 adaptable swings. If I lived in Petaluma, I would take my kid to this park every day. read more

This review is going to be short and to the point. This is a beautiful park but there are so many ducks, geese, and other birds that I didn't like it. There's poop all over the sidewalk and you can't really walk around the lake unless you walk through a bunch of sitting geese (THEY HISS AT YOU), and if you try to shortcut through the grass there's a bunch more poop.. It's just not a fun place to be. It's dirty. I'm sure the birds love it though.. read more

This review is on the reservable BBQ area with the green awning. I made my reservation several months in advance and the ladies who handles reservations were fantastic. Both of them were very helpful and friendly. Pros: * the price was great I think I paid $100 and the space comes with a shade awning, power and plenty of parking and alcohol is allowed *the staff * good shaded areas and plenty of room for a jumpy Cons * when we arrived the BBQ pit had a lot of trash in it and the garbage can was over flowing. Luckily I brought a ton of extra garbage bags. * the lawn that is between the parking and the BBQ area was very very water logged and muddy which made unloading and loading very dirty and difficult. Overall super happy with this location and will do more here in the future. read more

My church hosted a picnic attended by 50+ people. It was pleasant across the board with wide spaces an enormous grill area to accommodate us and ample grounds and tables to spread out. We had softball, pickle ball and other outings also. read more

I was very disappointed during my first visit with my dog to this park . We walked around the duck pond trail but unfortunately I spent all of my time dodging the massive amount of geese/ duck crap so neither me or my dog would track it into my car . Also several filthy homeless people who smelled as bad as the trail strewn all over the park benches . Im pretty shocked that the city doesn't recognize this as a health hazard and clean it up on a regular basis . Disgusting . I'll never walk my dog or myself there again. read more

What a lovely little spot. The staff was polite and quick. The sandwiches were very good. While waiting I noticed you could also buy lunch meat there, which I find convenient and a nice options. Good deli, will return, and will recommend anyone who hasn't to give it a try. read more

Two words: WEAR SHOES. If you don't, you'll end up like me - wearing sandals thinking it'll be a wonderful sunny day at the park, then literally having to avoid bird poop the entire time. Seriously, it's a minefield out there. read more

I wish I could give this park a better review. It's large and has a great location. But, there are a few things that keep us away. One of the issues is the geese population. Although, this isn't all year round they really do make a huge mess pooping everywhere. We want to walk our dog without dragging the smelly poop home with us. Second, and most importantly we don't feel particularly safe. There are a lot of young, homeless kids hanging out with big scary dogs, drinking and doing whatever they do. If I lived in the street, I imagine I'd drink too. But, they don't smile at us or, say hello when we've greeted them. I feel sad they are in this position. But, I've seen them asking for money over by McDonald's on numerous occasions too. I see outreach folks trying to get them off the street and give them help but, they don't take it. If there were more security present in the park, we would use it more. If they put their dogs on leashes maybe? When there are ball games things are a bit better. It's sad really. This could be a great park. read more

It is a little older and dirty, but we still enjoy this park. It's the closest one to our house so we go a lot. The playground has two structures, swings, and a teeter-totter. A lot of wide open space and a pond keep my son busy as well. read more

Lovely setting, but with the exception of a couple of the athletic fields, the park is dirty and unkept. There are piles of weeds, debris, and garbage everywhere and the lawn areas are full of dog droppings. I walked around the entire perimeter and only saw two garbage cans and no doggy poop bag stations. Too bad the City of Petaluma can't find the funds to take care of this City gem. read more

This park is very spacious. There is always an event being held. It has a scenic view of a man made pond that is inhabited by darling little ducklings. Tennis courts and a soccer field are convienant for the local sport teams. The worst aspect of this park is the horrendous bathrooms. It really makes you question where your tax money is going to. If worst comes to worst you can always pop into the Luchessi Center or a local shop that is across the street. read more

Had a get together there last week. There are benches and tables here and there. I parked in the lot just off McDowell which meant a walk around the pond. Seems like there is parking on the far side of the park also. More than a few cars sitting occupied in the lot. Geese are abundant and droppings are everywhere. If you stay in one place for a while, a bird might wander up expecting food or just eyeing you curiously. Such is life with waterfowl. Saw people fishing for bass in the murky water. It was rumored that there was a sturgeon in the pond some years ago. Also trout were planted supposedly in the past but I kind of doubt they are still present. Seems like a decent place to teach spin casting. Kids were enjoying the play structures. Folks were strolling around the pond. Seems fine in the daytime but I would not want to be there too close to sunset. read more
