Happy Earth Day Yelpers!…read more I love discovering my local area and what better way to do that then go on a walk with my dog to a park I haven't been to before. I went on a drive having my eyes set on my usual park until I drove by Julliard park. I will say finding parking was a bit of a maze since I accidentally entered a neighborhood. But once I did find parking, I decided to walk through the park and was amazed of how nice and tranquil it is. Beautiful benches with artwork on them. I couldn't help but stop and look at them all. The grass was nice and green and ready for my dog and I to trek. There's also a bocce ball court for anyone that loves to play bocce ball! There was a nice little bridge I walked on that had a great view of the park as well. I walked the whole park and it was a great workout. I proceeded to walk the rest of art district and found an alley that had a mural within it and it was beautiful. I haven't walked here and taken time to come to this part of Santa Rosa, but it definitely won't be the last time I come through to check it out.

We came birding here recently and saw a hawk and woodpecker perched up in a tree. They also had sheep and goat grazing in a temporary fenced-off area to keep the dry grass down. I love this eco-friendly method of managing vegetation. There were about a dozen dogs happily playing in the dog park when I was there. It was fun to watch how they interact with each other. There were a few growls but responsible dog parents were there to quickly call their dogs back. There are several picnic tables sprinkled throughout the park. You can reserve areas for special events. I have attended a wedding and a friend hosted a retirement party here. The Gravenstein Apple Fair has been held at this location for many decades as well. There are a few parking lots to choose from. You can park inside the park for free if you are a Sonoma County Regional Park member. Annual pass is currently $69. Seniors get a discounted rate.

There are bicycle trails, hiking trails and people take horses there too. Benches along the way let a person sit and enjoy the beauty. Out on the trails it's hard to believe you are within walking distance of downtown. There are also baseball, softball, soccer and volleyball. It is also home to the premier public tennis facility in West County, the Ragle Ranch Tennis courts were built with private donations and have been maintained by dedicated volunteers for the past 30 years without taxpayer funds. It has one of the few practice walls in West County and a porta potty nearby.

This park is not too far from Cotati and Rohnert Park, but it feels like you are far away amongst the vineyards and farms. Parts of the trail have great views. There is a decent size parking lot with a $7 fee. Trail maps near the parking lot direct you where to walk and sign posts on the trails keep you from getting lost. It's not humongous so we walked for less than an hour, only about 2 miles, but the trails were well maintained as mostly gravel, hard packed dirt, or grass. There is also a very popular disc golf course here. Dog friendly, on leash. Pit toilets. No sink or hand sanitizer.

My grandmother(-in-law) lives across the street from the park, and my husband's parents are only a couple blocks away on D Street. The park isn't very big. If you aren't in the neighborhood already (seeing family, in my case) then walking around downtown Petaluma instead of the park has a little bit more to offer, but if you're in the area, this is a pretty park in a beautiful neighborhood.

Throughout the Victoria neighborhood there are several little parks for children. They are all…read moreterribly small with odd items and don't seem like they'd be a lot of fun for kids. At the park nearest the tennis courts, we saw a path leading up the hill to the Water Tower and decided to hike on up. "Use at your own risk", a sign warned. Did that mean the trail? We decided to walk up the hill. The dirt path had brown weeds on either side and there wasn't much shade, but the hike was nice. Water towers supply water in case of emergency and also create the water pressure for water supply systems. They change levels throughout the day (refilling at night); they don't just store water. Good views at the top of the hill. No swimming allowed. :)

Families can enjoy the large playground, with climbing structures and slides. There are also paid attractions, which are seasonal. My family has enjoyed the miniature train and carousel, plus pony rides and the Animal Barn, where kids can meet and pet the animals. Then there's beautiful Lake Ralphine, where you can fish or rent paddleboats, kayaks, and canoes. The lake is also a peaceful place to sit, enjoy the scenery, and watch the wildlife. For those who like to stay active, Howarth has miles of hiking, walking, jogging and biking trails, with connections toward Spring Lake and Trione-Annadel State Park. There are also tennis and pickleball courts, which are currently under construction. It's also a wonderful place for birthday parties, picnics, field trips, summer camps and group activities. And I love that you can have a completely free, relaxing day walking the trails, enjoying the playground or having a picnic, or add some of the paid attractions for an extra-special family outing. Whether you're looking for outdoor exercise, family fun, nature, fishing, boating, playground time, or just a beautiful place to spend the day, it's hard to beat having all of that in one park

There's just something special about coming back to the same place year after year and making new memories. The campground is nestled among the oak woodlands above Spring Lake, and I love that you get that feeling of being away camping while still being right in Santa Rosa. Most of the campsites are spacious and they each have a picnic table, fire pit and lockable storage. There are restrooms, showers, potable water and an RV dump station available. One of the biggest reasons we keep coming back is how much there is to do. You can walk, hike or bike the beautiful trails around the park, fish in the lake, launch a kayak or paddleboard, or enjoy the swimming lagoon and its floating water playground, which is my stepson's favorite thing to do while camping. There's even the Environmental Discovery Center, which is such a fun educational experience for kids. I also love the convenience of being close to everything. If you forget something while camping, need groceries, or want to grab a meal, you're just a short drive from Santa Rosa. At the same time, once you're at the campground, it feels like you've escaped the everyday hustle. The campground also offers sleeping cabins, including an ADA-accessible cabin, which is a great option for people who want to enjoy the camping experience without sleeping in a tent. After five years of making this an annual tradition, Spring Lake has become more than just a campground for us--it's a place filled with memories. From sitting around the campfire and enjoying time together to exploring the lake and trails during the day, it's an easy place to fall in love with. If you're looking for a convenient, family-friendly campground with nature, recreation and plenty to do, I highly recommend Spring Lake Regional Park!

We will have to try the waterpark next time - that place looks like an absolute blast!
