Really good food but the wait staff is pretty damn stuck up. It is also pretty dumb that you can't order food to go from there. The head chef will go to the rialto next door to have a drink or gamble during his shift but people can't order food to take next door lol. Wonderful meal, excellent service, a truly sublime experience in dining in Helena, MT. We had wine, there is an extensive wine list. With the wine we had an appetizer with cheese, and caramelized onions, with bread. Delicious. We were given bread with two types of spread, really good. And a small "amuse busch", of cucumber. Yum! We did not have a main course, and skipped to dessert and coffee. We were served single French press coffee, very good. And a mocha panna cotta. Plenty to share. The waiter was excellent. Probably the most professional service we have had in Helena. He was knowledgeable about the food, explained everything on the menu, was very attentive throughout the evening. My only weird experience would be when I visited for my birthday dinner, our waitress said to choose a dessert for my birthday, implying it was on them. However, they did charge us. Great place for a nice, fancy evening dinner. Service was absolutely top notch, as it should be for a nice formal dinner. Food was phenomenal and plenty in portion size. Atmosphere is quite classy, a good choice to celebrate something special. It's a little too expensive for us to go frequently but will absolutely turn to this place to celebrate our special events! My one and only very small complaint is that they were out of Proper 12 whiskey and were replacing it with Bushmills. read more

My boyfriend and I were in town for our anniversary and we heard of Lucca's from a mutual friend. We decided to try it out after reading all the great reviews and seeing their menu. The meal started with drinks. I ordered the ginger basil martini. Very cleansing for the palate and refreshing. Then came an amuse bouche: a slice of apple with honey and mint. For the appetizer we ordered the baked fontina with basalmic onions and Cristina. For the main course, I ordered the shrimp fra Diavolo, half spicy just in case it was overpowering. My boyfriend ordered the wild mushroom and Italian sausage papparadelli. While we waited for our main course, the server brought out fresh bread with blue cheese butter and a basalmic reduction sauce. The shrimp fra Diavolo was served in a spicy creamy sauce with perfectly cooked shrimp. It was amazing! Perfect spice and the cream sauce was delightful. The papparadelli was served in thr Italian sausage broth and was very savory. Very tender meat. For the dessert we ordered the 7 layer tiramisu. It was very rich and delicious. They served us coffee in little mini French presses as a digestif. It paired well with thr tiramisu. I highly recommend getting a reservation for dinner! The atmosphere is so intimate and romantic. We were graciously greeted and seated right away, our server was informative and helpful yet not too chummy; "the best kind of server"! An amuse bouchée to start in Helena Montana.. Ok I'm impressed! We were in Helena for a long weekend and everyone we talked to suggested Lucca's. Well, we were not disappointed. This was one of the best meals we've had in a very long time. I had the scallop and shrimp pasta with fennel (can't remember the exact name) and it was cooked perfectly! My husband had the mushroom pappardelle and he really enjoyed that too. The sauce was more like a broth and not heavy...perfect! The wait staff was very professional and knowledgeable. I can't wait to come back to Helena to try something else. The best restaurant in Helena IMHO and has been for a long time. Ray continues to make sure his staff is highly trained and he always has a wonderfully curated wine list. Yes you need a reservation as this is not a huge restaurant but you will not be disappointed! Every meal starts with an amuse bouche and freshly baked bread and from there on you cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. My favorite as is for so many other diners is the Shrimp a Diavolo. Their version is a creamy and super spicy dream of a dish that is just one of my favorites anywhere. My husband had the lasagne and it also was wonderful with fresh mushrooms and spinach in a home made tomato sauce. Tira Misu is wonderful and light and also a crowd pleaser. Besides the wine being smooth, the bread being served warm with Gorgonzola butter and balsamic dipping sauce, and the salad being light yet satisfying (raspberry balsamic), the end-to-end experience was relaxing and borderline nostalgic. I know so many people love this place. But I'm so lukewarm on it. If people I'm dining with insist on going, fine, I'll go. But overall you can do better for the price tag. I've eaten here twice. The service was great both times. I have a dairy allergy and they accommodated that nicely. It's slow but that is not due to service, it's more due to the pace of a nice meal generally being slow. A lot of people like the pasta here, but they charge a lot for it and don't even make their own (On Broadway does). A waitress told me they use packaged gnocchi. With the price tag for a meal here, they shouldn't be using packaged anything, especially things that are so easy to make! I've had 2 meals here, one was a lamb chop, and one was a seafood pasta. The mussels appetizer was good, their seafood is very fresh. However, neither meal, while good, blew me away or justifies the price. I doubt you'll be disappointed if you go here, but there are better place you can go. read more
