LucasArts, formerly Lucasfilm Games, owned by Disney, is still around. They're probably best known for developing, publishing, and/or licensing Star Wars video games, but they had their hand in many other games and game genres including ones that utilized the SCUMM engine (more on that below).
Here, I will rank my Top Four LucasArts titles. Counting down...
4. Star Wars Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith (PC, 1998)
Mysteries of the Sith was an expansion pack to Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II (#1 in my list below). It added more content and features to an already great game. You could play as Mara Jade, Luke Skywalker's eventual wife, in this game. I wasn't as good at this game compared to Dark Forces II, so that's probably one reason why I don't like it as much.
3. Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders (PC, 1988)
This was an awesome and hilarious adventure game that used the SCUMM (Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion) engine. The game box even contained codes that you could only read with a special pair of glasses (also included -- yep, physical game materials). For a game of its time, it was really well done and I enjoyed the cinematics, particularly the intro. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPEocH6Am6w
2. Zombies Ate My Neighbors (Super NES, 1993)
Originally developed by LucasArts and published by Konami on the Super Nintendo, Zombies Ate My Neighbors was re-released for the Wii Virtual Console in 2009. LucasArts humor and nods to classic horror films are evident throughout the game. It's a fun, co-op optional, run-and-gun game with a whopping 48 stages. I highly recommend it.
1. Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II (PC, 1997)
I sunk a lot of hours into this game in high school. I played online a lot through what was then known as the Internet Gaming Zone (the Internet Gaming Zone went through several name changes and today is known as MSN Games). My friends and I played it so much, we started a clan called the nJo: New Jedi Order (a play off the nWo: New World Order, which was huge at the time). I got really good at this game with my dark side character.
Honorable Mentions:
Maniac Mansion (NES, 1987)
Super Star Wars (Super NES, 1992)
Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (Super NES, 1993)
Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (Super NES, 1994)
Ghoul Patrol (Super NES, 1994)
Star Wars: Dark Forces (PC, 1995)
Star Wars: X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter (PC, 1997)
Grim Fandango (PC, 1998)
There were several LucasArts games I wanted to play, but never did, mainly the Indiana Jones and Monkey Island series. Today, LucasArts no longer develops games, but instead licenses properties to other parties like Electronic Arts. read more
