We discussed what I was looking for, approx price and his availability. He asked me to send him a photo of the unit I was looking to get installed. I told him I was at work and could send him that when I got off. It's now 5:45 PM (ps, I'm still at work) and he responds to the last email I sent him on 1/7/15 with "Due to the review that was posted apparently my services are no longer required" Terrible customer service. I should have written a review about this company over a year ago. I hired Jaron, via competitive bidding, to do handyman work. Small immediate jobs that would mushroom into bigger jobs. I found Jaron Lucas to be a real treat to work with. He was required to repair a stair step that had been damaged from water damage before new carpet installation. The step actually had to be totally rebuilt. Jaron completed the job as required, to my specification, in a timely, and very economic, manner. I will not hesitate to hire his company again as I have assured him I will. You can't go wrong with this company. read more

I can't fault the work Jaron did for me - my mistake was to give him the second payment in full. You guessed it I never heard from him again. On top of that I trusted him enough to give him the key to my house - nope he never returned it. That mistake cost me another $300.00 having the house rekeyed. Sorry Jaron! read more

It's unfortunate that businesses advertise and do promotions with groupon and then when they decide they have gotten enough business, they go on to ignore all inquiries. Groupon should really do something about businesses such as these. I emailed them twice as well as left a voicemail and no response. The website states small handyman jobs as well as bigger contracting type jobs. I stated I needed painting and assembly done...who knows, maybe this wasn't big enough job?? But where these handyman businesses go wrong is that when you own a house there is ALWAYS work to be done. I also need a new window in a place where there is no existing window, concrete work, new entryway etc....but since they cannot be bothered to return a simple querey for information, I will take my business and $$ elsewhere. I could not believe what happened. After a no show and cancellation, the guy finally came. We discussed by phone a ceiling fan. He said "no problem". When there 30 minutes late, he added an addition $150 to the job after the living social coupon of $200 of services due to dry wall and wiring (why was this not addressed by phone before coming out). He goes to his car and then...just leaves!!! No explanation, no call no nothing. I was floored! Disappointing! In response to Mr. Lucas. We agreed to the additional charge as you were already there. Jaron completely remodeled my condo. Excellent job and fair price. Did job ahead of schedule. Jaron has worked on my condo for two renovations. I rent it out and now can sit back and relax. If any issue comes up, I just give him a call, send a text or have my renters call. Also the best thing about Jaron he is a one stop shop. He does remodeling, electric, plumbing you name it. Lucas Contracting Services recently completed several projects for us as part of an upgrade to our home. We wanted to do some light renovation to our bathroom, replacing the vanity, toilet and shower fixtures along with fixing old caulking and general maintenance of the plumbing. We also investigated installing recessed lighting in our main living area along with installing electrical outlets on the outside of our home as it previously did not have any electrical access outside. When Jaron visited to provide an estimate, he was punctual, polite, and offered great advice. He didn't try to upsell us on services we were not interested in and instead offered tips for how we could best accomplish the job regardless of which contractor we were to use. His prices were competitive with all of the other services we contacted and the quote he provide was clear and easy to understand. Our home is approximately 60 years old and presented a number of challenges on each part of the project. Jaron handled them in stride, updating me along the way with an understanding of what the issues and possible solutions would be. As a project manager myself, I was particularly impressed that he did a survey of the entire job first to understand what problems may come up and let me know in advance of any additional costs. While the work took longer than expected, it was because of no fault of Jaron's. Once again, our home is old and presented a lot of challenges once the walls were opened up. Jaron worked with us on a schedule to complete the work that fit our needs for a quick completion without having to rearrange our lives too much. At the end of each visit our home was clean, and he was willing to make corrections to small things we didn't like, such as deciding on using different bath fixtures. I'm so disappointed to have to write this review, but I think it's important to share my experience since I have previously recommended Jaron's work. Unfortunately, in his most recent work with us, he exhibited a lack of accountability and integrity- I will never work with him again. As detailed below, he didn't complete the project as promised and then tried to charge us extra to finish it. We began working with Jaron about nine months ago, and he performed a number of jobs for us - repairing a broken TV and running cable cords through a wall so it could be wall mounted, fixing a toliet and assembling an IKEA piece. We were generally pleased with the work and discussed a number of future projects (installing crown molding etc). We decided to start with a larger project - installing recessed lighting in our large dining room. We agreed on a price for the electrical work, which included patching up and painting the ceiling. We have an open floor plan that gets a lot of light from several windows, and the ceiling in dining room, the next room and foyer is contiguous. We told him that the paint left by the original owners was in the basement and that we'd give it to him but wasn't sure if the paint would still be viable as I was sure it hadn't been used and didn't think the ceiling had ever been repainted. Jaron never asked any questions about the paint. He completed the electrical work on the lights, but things went awry when it came to patching up the paint. Long story short, his attempt with both the original paint and the subsequent paints he brought over didn't match, and our ceiling looked like it had water stains. We finally brought in a Sherwin Williams rep who agreed that patching was not the answer given our setup with the open floor plan and all the light coming in that shows everything- the ceiling in the two rooms and the foyer would all have to painted in order for it to be uniform. He came to this conclusion in minutes - which led me to question why Jaron, a supposed professional contractor, hadn't spotted this as an issue when he accepted the project and discussed it with us so we could make an informed decision. Instead of painting the ceiling in the foyer and two rooms, Jaron then announced that he was going to charge us for painting the ceiling - thus increasing the cost of this project by 55%! Worse still, he was bold enough to suggest that he was doing us a favor as the price he offered was actually a "discounted: one - totally failing to recognize that all we were asking him to do was follow through on the job he'd promised to complete. We relied on his expertise regarding this project, and we had absolutely NO notice that matching the ceiling paint could be an issue that could potentially require painting the entire ceiling in that section of the house. When we stated our position, that we shouldn't have to pay anything additional, he implied that he "usually" discusses potential issues with patching and said that he would have to charge us since it would be a day's work. This is distinct from a situation where one might not anticipate a problem (i.e., he opened up a wall and discovered a wiring issue.) It's very clear that the room gets a lot of light. As an experienced contractor, we would have expected that he would be aware of the potential of a paint matching problem and given us the opportunity to evaluate the consequences of that possibility before moving forward with the work. We should not have to pay over 50% more for the job after it turned out that he was unable to match the paint. Our position was that we shouldn't have had to pay anything and that Jaron, who clearly misjudged his ability to patch the ceiling, should have eaten the cost. However, in an effort to reach an acceptable compromise, we offered to pay something - an amount more than a 30% increase over the original project cost. To our shock, he didn't immediately accept this generous offer and proceeded to try to continue to haggle with us. After a few emails back and forth, he told us he would charge X price for one coat of paint but 2X for two coats, and he couldn't guarantee how many coats would be needed. At this point, I just didn't feel comfortable proceeding with Jaron. I got the sense that he was just going to do whatever he had to do to check this off his list since he wasn't getting the full price he'd demanded, and I wasn't confident that he would complete this work in a careful, professional manner as he characterized the time he would be spending at our house as "lost money." We have a huge, heirloom china cabinet in the room- he'd said he didn't need to move it to paint the whole ceiling but I just didn't trust that he would be able to paint the ceiling around it without damaging it. Ultimately, we paid more to get a professional painter to paint the two rooms and the foyer because I just didn't feel we could trust Jaron. read more

I had to bring a handyman into my home to get curtains hung properly as well as some pictures. I was thinking that if this experience went well, I could then count on this person for more work. Not so much. First, as a woman who lives alone, my main concern is that the handyman is not a serial killer. He wasn't. He struck me as being irritated, but that's all. Here's the deal: the curtains looked great. It was the piles of sawdust I found beneath each job after he left that took me by surprise. And even though I kept telling him the pictures were too high, I couldn't quite get him to put them in the right place. I did succeed in irritating him, which was disconcerting for me. I don't like having some big guy I don't know, irritated with me, in my private living space. Also, he coiled up some cords and then affixed them to the wall at waist length, for everyone to see. I do not live in a shed. I live in a nice apartment, I have hardwood floors in every room, and art hanging on the walls. Then I was the one who had to try to get that fixture loose. He saw me working it, and he didn't even step in to help. Long story short, I called "Mr. Handyman" company next time. They had to rehang his pictures, they put up more curtains for me, they left no piles of sawdust, and they were very accommodating and nice, as you would think they'd be. They cost more, but they were worth it. Maybe the jobs I wanted done were just too small time for this guy to care about. I don't know. But I will never call him again. read more

His quote was competitive, the work was performed professionally and punctually, and he actually came in under the estimate. Not only that, but he could have charged us more for some of the plumbing services and didn't. We were really happy with his work and won't hesitate to recommend him, or use him in the future. STAY FAR AWAY FROM LUCAS CONTRACTING SERVICES! Look at the other recent reviews! That's exactly what happened to us. Do NOT buy the Living Social he is running. On the day we'd scheduled I called because I hadn't heard from him confirming he'd be over. He said he was on his way, yet didn't have our address. Not sure how he was on his way...When we described the work to be done he said he didn't have a tall ladder with him, nor a helper to assist him with the job. He asked us to send a photo of work to be done and said it would be an easy job. We took the time to do this, and have never heard from him again. After several, yes several attempts to contact him through email and phone, I've had zero responses. Today I left a message that we'd report his unprofessionalism to the Better Business Bureau. Still no response! ALL THE RECENT REVIEWS STATE THE SAME TYPE OF BEHAVIOR. Jaron Lucas is extremely inconsiderate of people's time and unprofessional. Although I told him I had several projects we'd like to use him for, no response. I feel so lucky we never used him. There are many hard-working, honest contractors out there. I wanted to update my review -- while he seemed knowledgeable (I'm sure he is), he just wants your money. I recommend getting a second opinion or quote before hiring him to do costly projects. **For replacing the shower drain he charged me $500.** He also convinced me that 10 inches of pipe needed to be replaced. I was in a bind and nervous about my shower leaking so I hired him for this. $500 and a week later, the same leak problem came up again. He came back and tightened the drain but I was pretty angry because this proved that he didn't need to do all of the work (replacing a pipe 2 feet away from the drain nowhere near the leak) he said he needed to do. I was SCAMMED! A good family friend (I trust him very much) and master plumber/contractor is currently redoing our kitchen and as he was taking out my bulk head was questioning what the heck was going on with that area (poor patch job in my ceiling and unnecessary pipe work). I explained what Jaron did and he flat out told me there is no way that was necessary. I'm in my 20's and just bought my first home, yet he felt comfortable enough to scam me. read more
