"Mr. Joe" left a lasting legacy in town as attested to in text from researchers at the Heritage Museum: "Joseph J. Miller, born in 1908 in Philadelphia, worked in a Sumter shoe store before coming to Elloree to sell shoes. In leased space he expanded his business into Miller's Department Store in 1946, selling work clothes on credit. Miller was reported to be kind and generous to families that could not pay. He retired in 1973. He died six years later, never having married. His largesse in Elloree is still felt through the Joseph J. Miller Foundation, which he established to fund local churches, Joe Miller Park, a permanent exhibit at the museum, and Jewish religious and secular institutions, including Temple Sinai in Orangeburg, where he attended services, and the Jewish Heritage Collection at the College of Charleston. As a publication of the museum says, "Though small in stature he is a giant to those people who are reaping the benefits of the Joseph J. Miller Foundation."

    As a resident of Elloree I grew up here and I had my first child. I decided to come to the…read morepark.with him being that he is one with lots of energy and my view of the park was... I was in shock of how really rundown the park. Looks from the swings for a little kids not being available and torn. They really let the part go. Some benches don't even have backs to them grass and weeds are really overgrown. It's just sad I will not recommend nobody coming here until they fix it.My child also got hurt on the swing the one that actually sort of kind of works. I won't be coming back sad say
