Today I had to go to Lowe's because I needed an air-condition filter for my home system, and what I came out with was not only the product I came in for, but with the realization that Lowe's has something rare to find these days: friendly, kind, knowledgeable, and efficient associates eager to go the extra mile to help you. And that to me is not only priceless, but deserves my loyalty. After having been selected as number 4 of Yelp's Top 50 most prolific Elites of 2025, a year when I was also awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Photographer of the Year Award at their Yelpies 2025 Award Ceremony, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, and where last year I was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Yelper of the Year Award, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and businesses, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And this Lowe's in Roanoke, Virginia is a perfect example. Lowe's has grown from a single small-town general store in 1921 into the world's second largest home improvement retailer. In 1921 Lucius Smith Lowe founded "North Wilkesboro Hardware" in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina. It sold a diverse array of everyday items. After his passing away, in the early 1940's his son James took ownership, eventually bringing in his brother-in-law, H. Carl Buchan, as a partner. Then around 1946 Carl Buchan refocused the company on a new strategy eliminating wholesalers and buying directly from manufacturers to offer lower prices. In 1952 he becomes the sole owner. After his passing away in 1961 the company went public as Lowe's Companies, Inc., allowing it to fund regional expansion across the Southeast US. In the late 1970's Lowe's shifted its focus to retail "do-it-yourself" consumers under CEO Robert Strickland. And marketing was aimed at individual households. In the 1990's the company began transitioning to the massive warehouse-style store format that dominates its brand today. Today under CEO Marvin Ellison, who joined in 2018, the company has focused on modernizing its digital presence and optimizing its supply chain to better compete in the massive home improvement market. When I entered the store I found it clean, well stocked and well organized. But I had no idea where to go to find what I came to look for. So I turned to the right and started walking with the hope of finding an associate who could help me. It didn't take long for me to run into Cathy whom I immediately noticed who she was by her nametag and the way she was dressed. I asked if she could help me find what I was looking for and instead of telling me "Go to aile such and such," she actually went with me and helped me find the size I needed and the quality one I wanted. When I pointed out that these were on Sale for Buy 3 and get another one Free, she made sure to walk with me to the cashier associate also named Kathy but with a K, to let her know about the sale so she would make sure to give it to me. While I was there she asked me if I was a Lowe's Rewards Member and when I gave her my phone number we found out I wasn't so I asked her if she could sign me up. And she was happy to do so. I thanked her and asked if she had a bag to put in the filters. She went somewhere and found one of the size I needed and packed my 4 filters. Later at home I found out that these filters had a filtrete app that told you when it was time to change them and how was the quality of the air by inputting your location. In conclusion I highly recommend this Lowe's for all the reasons you already know and most of all for its exceptional customer service which to me is priceless. read more

The pro-desk team really went above and beyond to help out last night. In this case, Lisa returned to the store after her shift was done to help sort out a delivery with incorrect information. I'm not perfect and neither is Lowes.... but their people take the time to develop and nuture personal relationships and that goes a long way when problems arise. This place reeks of weed every time we go there. Gives me a headache. Placed a pro order and received an email saying ready for pickup. Showed up to find they hadn't even started pulling our items. The workers are nice but overall the place is unorganized. read more

We came in for an online order after text and email says ready for pickup. The cashier/service desk puts the order in several times and then asks if we are at the correct store. Yeah , we are and she finds us by phone number. She could not pull it up by order number for whatever reason. Problem is the order is ready but in the back so we have to wait for someone to come and then to go get it and bring it to the front. Apparently there's some remodeling happening so the doers aren't kept in the front but in the stockroom. No problem but then they want us to wait in line again to get it after we've already waited for the order to be located and then for someone to come to the desk to confirm what's to be pulled and then for them to bring it to the service desk. A new cashier comes forward and takes the first person in line and I ask if we can please take the order and leave instead of having to wait again. Note we've been there a good 20 minutes and it should not be this difficult or take this long to pick up an order. Why are we having to go to the back do the line to pick up an order we have been waiting on? It shouldn't be this tough to even acknowledge the order was there. Lowe's needs to do better. read more

Every Time I enter this store, the employees are so polite, nice and helpful. On my way back to the flooring department this afternoon , two employees said good morning. The third employee asked me if I needed assistance. I almost keeled over in shock. In today's sometimes snarky climate, this kind of customer service is rare. Kudos to this store. It's lowes. How can you have a bad review?!?! I ordered online for pickup at the store. It was a little slow at customer service as 3 people were helping/talking to 1 customer. But other than that it was great! My item was heavy. They went and got it and two men brought it to my car and loaded it. read more

Hmmm, where do I begin. I would have given less than 1 star if I could. Lowe's tried to cheat us into buying an older model generator at top dollar and wanted us to pay them to earn our business!! Guess they lose a lot of money with the screw ups I read about so they try to make it up by charging fees to earn our business and selling old things they were t able to get rid of or, they got a good deal on the older unit and wanted to gouge us. My husband and I needed a lot of work done on our home. Floors, doors and turn or bathtub into a walk in shower oh, and a whole home generator. We went in and spoke to someone in the bath dept and explained what we needed/wanted. We were told Lace Lacy would be in touch. We also spoke to a gentleman in the generator dept who actually sent someone out. So, when the men got there we were told our home needed a 22K generator. We were looking for 16-20K. But without looking at anything or asking questions we were told the ONLY one that would work is the 22K. To the tune of close to $12K!! We questioned the price and were told that Generac 22K has an outlet so we can sell our neighbors power!! A few days later we saw a commercial from Generac offering a free 7 year bumper to bumper warranty so we called Generac to inquire and were told the 22K isn't even made anymore, it's an older model and the warranty only applies to current models. Wow! That was sly. So we called another company that has Generac and after asking about our appliances, heat and air etc he loaded info into Generac app and it said a 16 would do but if we ever got anything that would use a lot of power we would be sunk, so we opted for the 20K with the warranty and it was $4K less!! Lowe's apparently has a lot of old generators left they are dying to get rid of. When we called to speak to the man who came here, he wouldn't call us back! No more Lowe's for us!! Next we finally reached Lace Lacy, we called her, and we met with her, very cordial. We spent a lot of time, went twice to pick flooring and doors, then had to go back because she "forgot" to write down what we picked out!! Then she called and asked if we already paid the $75 fee for lowe's to give us a quote! I have never paid to give my business! I explained we knew nothing about a fee. I emailed her to explain we didn't feel right about paying them to earn our business and she never responded. No email or call. The doors floors and bath would have brought that store close to $20K or more. We went with another store for flooring and doors, the product we found is much better quality and less money. So, now we are doing all of the above and having our deck redone for less than Lowe's would have charged us!!!! Sorry Lowe's.....poor quality, poor salesmanship and lack of knowledge all around. Sitting in the parking lot of Lowe's, waiting for my mother to come out from purchasing an appliance. As we've been here 2 hours now! First picked out the appliance, sales people did NOT know what they were talking about, then said the appliance could not be installed by them because it was on clearance and the installers complain too much about clearance items, didnt know how to put it in the system, then we picked out another appliance, said they didnt have any and couldnt sell the display, and one may be coming in "soon", "MAYBE"! Picked out somethingELSE, manager would only meet us partially down on cost because of the others he couldnt sell us, finally get something in the computer, and now have been waiting for 45 minutes on a manager to come adjust the price in the system. AND, i had to walk to the front end to customer service to tell them we've been waiting on a manager. That was half hour ago, and im still in the car waiting for her to come out! I walked around in the store for an hour and 10 minutes and not a single person offered to help. I went to the customer service desk only to be told to look on aisle 5, perhaps 15 for what I needed but Matt who appeared to be in some sort of management position didn't offer to walk with me and show me where the item was that I needed. I needed a 4 x 4 post which I had to heave myself. Your new management style is not working. Will go to Home Depot from now on. read more

Once again lowes are the biggest let down for anyone trying to make a living in construction. Not only do they have some of the worst quality workmanship but their prices are out of this world for the quality you get. They consistently short me material on every order I have made and then make up excuses as to why only half the order was sent out. They have also dropped the material off the fork lifts into customers yards and flower beds on every single order I have ever made. This don't go down well with my customer in the slightest and on one order i refused the material due to the quality and they picked it up and returned me the same exact stuff i sent away but they told me it was from another store. Funny that because i marked every board with a UV marker because they try this a lot. They said sorry and took the material away once again but this mess up cost me over $1500 losses due to being behind 3 days. I try my best not to use them as their prices are outrageous and the customer service sucks. If can can shop elsewhere as they don't care how your jobs comes out or if you have problems. read more
